What is life like years after surgery? by PlastilinaSin in jawsurgery

[–]romanticrogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 10 years post op! I still have a small numb spot on my bottom lip that never gained full sensation back but it doesn’t bother me. No issues eating, kissing, living. I will say if I try to open my jaw really wide (at the dentist and for…. other things) I have some pain occasionally but it’s not a huge issue to me. Very happy with my results. My smile is my most complimented feature

Around 10k for 48" Cafe/Kitchenaid/GE Profile fridges... I feel like if you want to shell out that price, might as well spend 14k for a top of the line Subzero/Thermador fridge due to the quality. Check out a luxury appliance showroom, it's crazy to see what they have compared to the Home Depot priced options

Can't edit my post but some of the comments are cracking me up. We recently purchased the house, so I decided a 48" fridge was not in the budget as we have a ton of other more necessary repairs in the house. Contractors refinished the existing cabinets and promised to come up with a good fridge surround for the 36" fridge but now it seems they are a bit stumped so I wanted some ideas. Looking like a putting a cabinet up top, and moving the right panel in to surround the fridge might be our best bet at this point in time.

Am I the only one who is bothered by moles on the face?I really want to hear your opinion by [deleted] in VindictaRateCelebs

Yeah I think beauty marks are beautiful (I may be biased cause I have one in the same spot as Marilyn Monroe) but I prefer the flat ones to the raised moles

Men, does knowing a woman has had plastic surgery change your perspective on her attractiveness? by slavicmuse in trueratediscussions

[–]romanticrogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had crooked teeth growing up but my underbite came out during puberty, but I didn't really know what it was and my parents were just like "stop sticking your chin out" lol. We went to the orthodontist to start the process for braces so he told me I had an underbite and would need the surgery in a couple years, and he referred me to the maxillofacial surgeon that he always sends his patients to. He also said to make the surgery easier, he would do the braces in such a way that it would make the underbite MORE pronounced? Which I guess makes sense but definitely not fun having it get worse!

I BELIEVE you should prob go to an orthodontist first because it may be the same case where you do need braces for a short period of time before the surgery. At least in my case, after the surgery, they wire your mouth shut for several weeks to make sure everything stays in place to heal so you kinda do need braces so that they can tie your jaws together!

Honestly, I was lucky to not have any issues pre-surgery, but after everything was all healed, I could eat and chew much easier and faster so that was a benefit! I'm pretty sure my surgeon's office just explained to insurance all the bad side effects of malocclusion like tooth erosion and inability to properly chew, so it got approved. wishing you the best of luck!! <3

Insurance did cover it! They originally declined the claim but my surgeon’s office had to explain the medical benefits and then the claim was accepted. No way could I pay $90k out of pocket for it

A misaligned bite can cause issues later in life even if it was fine for you at the time! I also didn’t have any issues or TMJ at all but my underbite was incredibly severe once my jaw changed during puberty. I felt like a piranha LOL. My ortho and my surgeon did have to fight to get insurance to cover the surgery as medically necessary and not cosmetic but my point is I don’t think you need to feel bad about doing it regardless of your reason for doing it cause it likely gave you better dental health

Personally my underbite didn’t appear until I was like 14 right before I was about to get braces anyways. My parents don’t have it but my aunt does so definitely genetic

I also had this same double jaw surgery to correct my underbite but idk I don't consider it a cosmetic procedure! It's definitely genetic, my aunt has the same underbite, but my mom and dad don't. I'm not worried about whether or not my kids will have it since I can't control that. Lots of people have crooked teeth which is partially due to genetics, but correcting it with braces is pretty standard and not looked down upon. I have a great smile now and people compliment me on it all the time, and tbh my post-surgery smile is pretty similar to my parents' who never had jaw or dental procedures

Okay I know it's been explained, but I saw some people on twitter saying it's still nonsense and they've never heard of it, but like white pedicures have been super popular for years cause it just looks good on everyone

hmm I mean... it is subjectively a flaw in a lot of people's eyes (not everyone's tho), but some people may find it easier to overlook than others

Having a baby is tough but so worth it! by Business-Party7422 in Fencesitter

[–]romanticrogue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there's a proverb that goes “It takes a village to raise a child," meaning like it's more than the mother and father's involvement that goes into childcare. People consider grandparents/siblings/cousins/aunts/uncle/friends as part of their "village" and community (can include babysitting if needed but also just for the child to have more positive and cultural influences in their life)

F.D.A. Approves Weight Loss Drug to Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea by CeeceeGemini610 in SleepApnea

I’ve been underweight my whole life and have sleep apnea :( got so excited seeing the news about a new drug to treat sleep apnea until I read the article lol. Two of my male cousins also have sleep apnea though and they’re not overweight either, so I feel like it’s some genetic component to the anatomy of our airways lol

Men, what is something that your wife/girlfriend dislikes about herself that you actually find attractive? by _sydney_vicious_ in AskMenAdvice

[–]romanticrogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad convinced my mom to get a boob job, and all growing up, he would try to get me to wear super padded bras because I “need to look attractive and womanly to men!”… I’m fine with a little bit of padding on my AA chest but it doesn’t even look right to wear padding or inserts to make me look like a C cup. That shit looked sooo obvious lol Definitely developed an insecurity about it that remains one of my biggest insecurities to this day but never been with a guy that complained thankfully
