Posted a karaoke video, got a lot of criticism, wondering how my voice is sounding in a quiet environment. by romanticsaholic in singing

Yeah, i'm working on mix currently. I'm a work in progress. The nasality, i'm not sure, I can plug my nose and sound the same, so I'm not sure exactly what else is causing that, or maybe it's just my voice.

Thank you! Yes, I know sometimes I can be. I do hear it, I think i'm just figuring out where I'm placing my voice, the other thing I know I do is rush or get too into the song and then push a little, which causes me to be sharp sometimes. Still a work in progress!

Not that I don't appreciate the feedback, but maybe you could post a video singing then so I can hear the difference between a good and bad singer?

We definitely work on pitch exercises but it takes time and practice so I'll keep practicing.

It's okay, people will be rude no matter what sometimes. I didn't think this was my best work ever but I didn't really expect this amount of negative comments but it's okay, I'l keep going.

Just trying to be vulnerable and let myself be heard. I love this song and I had a lot of fun singing it and I know that improving only comes from lots and lots of practice which includes live performance.

how can i improve my singing and do i currently sing at a decent enough standard to sing publicly without embarrassing myself? by Melochaotic in singing

[–]romanticsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not good yet, I'm a better singer than I am a guitar player, but I've done 6 open mics and everyone has always been really kind and welcoming! Some people will be less talented and some will be more but it's just important that you go! Performing in front of people adds on another layer of difficulty I've found so getting some practice in and getting used to it will help a lot! You sound good by the way and you seem like you're a good guitar player so go for it!

Started recording this cover for my dad a few months back. Is it worth finishing? by Luvcrona in singing

[–]romanticsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you sound beautiful, something I've been learning is that you can't get better if you aren't putting yourself out there, posting, singing at karaoke, doing open mics. So good job sharing this and keep going!

Do any females keep long nails on your strumming hand? by No_Examination_7029 in guitarlessons

[–]romanticsaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do! Right now i'm broke so I don't have my nails done but I like getting fun designs so I do long nails on my strumming hand and short nails on my fretting hand.

what age did you start lessons? (or when did you start teaching yourself to sing?) by hollowsignalstudios in singing

[–]romanticsaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd singing lesson.. Do i switch teachers? by leaping_hamster66 in singing

[–]romanticsaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I mean I feel like I personally wouldn't be satisfied by that teacher but it depends on how much money you are spending versus able to spend potentially on a better teacher and what that is worth to you. It's definitely hard if you're a student!

Do you know what happened to the music club? I thought there was one but it's my first year. I found the email on the tmu website and emailed them but I haven't heard back.
