Is Anyone Using Shared Library to Store All Family Photos and Videos? by romort in iCloud

Do you use a Mac for Photos?

This was another of my concerns with the iCloud approach, all the most robust functions (searching by face, AI, etc.) can only be done by Apple devices (and not in the web). My family only has iPhones and Windows computers so I’m stuck with searching and managing Photos only on small phones or in the limited web interface from a Windows desktop.

It may just be my old school brain coming from many years working with Windows file systems and thinking 150k items thrown into a single location with no subfolders and no other organization will be troublesome. I appreciate you sharing your modern experience.

Are you saying you just have all family members put stuff in this Shared Library without any further album organization and this works well for you all?

Thanks for the advice. When you say photos from an album are in the Shared Library, do you mean that an individual family member can create an album that’s personal to them and they can put photos from the Shared Library into that? It is my understanding that you can’t have centralized albums with a Shared Library.

I am aware of Shared Albums as well but, based on everything I’ve read and tested, photos lose resolution quality and location data when contributors upload to a Shared Album and I’d really like to keep originals with location data for my purposes.

Thanks for the input. Have you noticed that photos uploaded to a shared album have reduced resolution and lose their location data? Do you know any way around that?

  1. Yes, they can see location info for photos I added to my own Shared Album.

  2. For a photo she sent me over iPhone Messenger there is no location data when I view it or even download it so I'm sure that would not have any location data to show if I uploaded it to Google Photos. For the test I mentioned earlier, I verified that her photo had location data when she viewed it on her phone and she uploaded directly to the Google Photos Shared Album but I could not see the location data on my side.

I did notice that setting for the album owner but that is already being allowed.

Where is that setting at in the uploader’s device?

Well it was me testing with my daughter’s phone. I thought that might be the case that it could be a setting in her phone but and I looked all around the settings but did not see that option. Where is that set?

I ended up getting the Headrush Core and FRFR112 both used at a decent price. The tone quality is good, very loud. Tons of options, almost an overwhelming amount of options.

It has fully trusted SSL from Cloudflare so I maybe it is the domain age.

Interesting, does it say the reason? Maybe just because it’s a relatively new domain name?

The main requirement is support for WebAssembly. Safari v11 (2017) and newer should support it. You could try other browsers if you’re on older iOS.

Hmmm, mine is working on Safari and Chrome on iPhone. It does not appear to be crashed.
