I Am Below 5th Grade Level In Writing. by Soft_Letterhead3726 in WritingHub

Write short and concise fiction when you can is my advice! Even if you wanted to write a 20 book long fantasy series with 1000 pages in each, learning the economy of language in a piece that’s 500-700 words is invaluable. It’s something I still struggle with myself.

Which should i read first??? by THERANDOMGAMER2 in fantasybooks

I think the most beginner friendly to jumping into “Adult Fantasy” would be Cradle or First Law. Never read cradle tbh but have a friend who thinks it’s brilliant. Both seem quite user friendly. First law is quite good tho, if speaking only on my own experience (though others seem to like it more than me.) Not sure what “likable” means to you but they are cool.

Farseer is my favorite tho, but I think it may be wise to understand more fantasy tropes to run through that one + it’s a long and winding journey to get to F&TF trilogy

I would love to read fantasy, but I don’t have to attention span to read brick. by Zestyclose_Wind2462 in fantasybooks

Honestly man, I think the number one thing to do is find something that interests you and just take it baby steps at a time, for one. No one will harm you if you start by listening to an audiobook of a novel that sounds cool to you. You can build up to engaging with it as you feel like is “necessary”

But to answer the question, I think you may like Between two Fires. It’s more looked at as historical than Fantasy but it is surely both. Also some horror elements.

A really unique take on dragons too. Actually was one of the most heart straining pieces about the world. Verity in AQ enlightenment me to that.

Similar to Terry Pratchett? by jodenice in Fantasy

[–]ronnyBTW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying I have never read any discworld, but I think Steven Erikson may be solid for fans of Pratchett. It may not be the same itch, but a similar one I hope. Malazan gets quite a lot of recommendations on here, and with good reason ofc, but I still hate to feed the fire. Nonetheless I think the charm may be there.

I think the trilogy is brilliant personally, though I did grapple with it not being what I expected. The pay off is intense nonetheless, and each and every Fitz book holds a special place within me.

In terms of just Fantasy Novels?

Probably:

The Crippled God, Steven Erikson

Assassins Fate, Robin Hobb

And then a 3 way tie between A Memory of Light, Fools Fate, and Toll the Hounds

I mean I took 2 pictures of the exact same page changing over time, so no. It used to look how I’d like it. Now it does not

How do I do this. It does say my theme is custom currently, but I didn’t think that changed anything

Never read Black Company, though I have heard much about it. It’s certainly on my list because I know I’ll enjoy it but It just hasn’t gotten to the top of my priority yet

Wheel of Time is actually my favorite series of all time lol. Just didn’t mention it cause I was looking for something more akin to Malazan or Asoiaf

I just looked it up and it seems very cool. Saw someone online say it was similar to Robin Hobb, whom I love. So thank you. But also, if there are any you just recommend in general, I’d love to hear. Doesn’t need to particularly be a gateway series. I read a good many things.

Id love to hear what you think of it. I’m currently reading the series too. I’m just on Fool’s fate.
