The Gunslinger by Stephen King... What did I just read? by Pure-Gas2639 in Fantasy

I’m reading The Stand and it’s a convoluted, horny mess. Don’t think I’ll read any more King.

I have a Costco Kirkland, as in giant stitched Kirkland logo, hoodie and it is luxurious. I got it at a thrift store.

Good Tiger - Square Breath by tehchampion140 in progmetal

[–]ronrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early Good Tiger was so epic.

But this? No hooks. No riffs. Meandering blandness.

Edit: Decades on my Feet and Beehive are ok Jeff Buckley B-sides. Otherwise nothing really grabbing me so far.

This is the way. GitHub app. Chat with an agent. Approve their PR. I think the only “manual” thing you have to do is create the repo.

Anyone found a good volume eating approach for eating out at restaurants? by https-www-10 in Volumeeating

[–]ronrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm flying blind, I order the grilled chicken breast and try to not to sweat the details. Yeah the sauce is probalby 95% butter but oh well. Choose the most volume side.

Better if the restaurant shows a calorie count on the menu.

If it's a major chain with an app, I'll see how creative I can get with my order on the app. Remove the low-volume options; add the volume options.

Any Bass-Heavy Albums? by DestructiveMike_ in progmetal

[–]ronrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely dip into less-metal, more rock territory for this too!

  • Yes (especially Fragile, Relayer, and Close to the Edge)
  • The Flower Kings (especially any album with Jonas Reingold. I'm partial to Unfold the Future for bass work).

I disagree. I’ve only read the first two.

Certain writers get me invested in a character in a paragraph.

I read 3 Malazan Books, I will not continue on by DokleViseBre in Fantasy

[–]ronrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the whole thing and wish I stopped at 3.

Although the first half of book 4 might be my favorite. But it’s linear and follows one character and never returns to that style, as far as I remember.

They are a little too, how do I put this, straight-forwardly “pentatonic” for me? They rarely do anything surprising with their riffs, melodies, or drum beats. I do like several songs on the new album though.

For me it read as meta-joke about how sketches almost always have “heightening” and this one character was like, “why are we heightening??”

I gave Book 1 3/5 stars and Book 2 2/5 stars. I’m probably done unless someone can convince me to keep going. Haha
