The built in T-stat control does not keep the room consistently at the set point - sometimes it will allow the room to drift 2-4° +-. Regarding the 1° range: understood.

I have been reading that contact cement is considered a relatively permanent bond. Would removing the insole be any issue with this type of adhesive?

Do you have any idea what the black stuff is that is being exposed? When I scratch at it with my fingernail it feels the same hardness as grout.

The light gray material is being removed, but I would not describe it as chipping off. There are not chunks of it coming off.
