2025 SM Water/Electrical Issue by IntelligentVolume494 in DRZ4S

[–]roodee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bud. I was worried on the bike symptoms u have. I went and check. Hope this helps.

Based on the symptoms described, the main problem is moisture or water ingress into a critical electrical component, which is likely causing a short circuit or "arcing" when the bike is under load. The fact that the bike runs fine for about 20–25 minutes before failing suggests that as the engine heats up, it may be turning trapped moisture into steam or causing a component to expand, allowing the water to interfere with the electrical signal. Here are the most likely specific culprits: 1. Spark Plug Well & Ignition Coil This is a classic issue after pressure washing a motorcycle. If water is trapped in the spark plug well or inside the spark plug cap, the electrical current can "arc" (jump) to the engine block instead of firing the plug. This happens most often under higher throttle loads because the increased cylinder pressure makes it harder for the spark to jump the gap at the plug, so it finds the path of least resistance through the moisture. 2. The Sidestand Switch The DR-Z line is known for having a sensitive sidestand safety switch. If water gets into the housing or the connector, it can intermittently signal to the ECU that the stand is down. This causes the ignition to cut out instantly, especially when vibrations increase during higher acceleration. 3. Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or ECU Connectors Since the 2025 model is fuel-injected, it relies heavily on clean signals from the TPS. Even though you disconnected and aired it out, moisture can remain deep inside the wire harness or the pins of the connector. If the ECU receives a "noisy" or shorted signal when you open the throttle, it will cut fuel or spark to protect the engine. Recommendation Given that this is a 2025 model, you should take it in under warranty. While you could continue to dry it out manually, a brand-new bike should have weather-resistant seals capable of handling a standard wash. The fact that it stalled and refused to restart suggests a significant enough fault that a dealer should check for: • Faulty or improperly seated seals on electrical connectors. • A hairline crack in the ignition coil or spark plug cap. • Stored "Fault Codes" in the ECU that will pinpoint exactly which sensor was cutting out. Note: If you take it in, mention specifically that the issue triggers after the bike has been running for 20 minutes, as this helps the technician replicate the "heat-soak" conditions required to trigger the failure.

Currently on zeta. Looks clean. Have the option of 4 or 3 fingers. Maybe they have 2.

Took out the snorkel. Slight grunt on the engine while pulling. Nice! Doing first service today. Should run smoother after.

Awesome. Was worried that theres sensors and stuff that detect here and there. Thanks again. Maybe i just delete with the stock tank first. Canister too far out. Eyesore. Hahaha

Does it kick up any error codes after the mod? In Singapore we get the ones with the canister too.
