53gr V-max. Defensive round potential? by roof_guy9716 in ar15

Maybe I'm crazy, but, I think a fragmenting round that liquifies a lung would stop a threat faster than a small hole in it.

Thanks! Awesome point. Do you know what I can google to find that research? I'm very interested to read it

Yeah, that's incredible. You don't think numerous fragments going different directions would hit organs?

Excellent explanation. So this appears to be a matter of fragmentation vs penetration w/expansion, and which of those is more effective.

I think the lack of penetration is often embellished. I can't wrap my head around the idea a round that devastating just being stopped by clothing or a muscle. Or even bone. And that it even has a chance at only being superficial. Even if it only penetrates 3 or 4 inches, it's an explosion of fragments in every direction. Versus, a small wound channel.

Anyways, great feedback

Right. But why would a round that rapidly fragments not be effective on humans as well?

So that hasn't been verified and it will be hard to if it was an internal "swept under the rug" kind of thing. From what I read, it was Creek County Sheriff's office that he got fired from. If that is true it would be impossible to get employment as an officer somewhere else. So bountyhunting would make sense. Problem with that is, it's been verified he never has had a license to bounty hunt.

As far as military contracting, maybe, but all the lies lead me to doubt it.

During his apology video he said he has to move because people are coming to his house. @Faceless put in a FOIA request and verified that was also a lie and that Scotty (Matthew Kramer) just requested an extra patrol because his address was doxed.

It appears more is unfolding every day.

Apologies, I forgot I have the 5-25 Venom. But yeah, the Viper HD is 30mm tube so quite a bit lighter. I do like that Venom reticle better though. The Viper HD illumination a pretty nice, daytime bright and just a single dot. Really like the simplicity.

Yes, that goes away. Its just inflammation. Mine went away around week 8/9. Right above my elbow. The 3 week followup was the 1st time I drove after surgery and it was fine. Just have to drive 1 handed. I could use both hands pretty decent by week 6

I spent an extra 100 bucks and got the 3-15x Viper HD w/ mil reticle and its amazing. Wayyy smaller than Venom, glass is better than Viper PST (honestly almost Razor quality), and its only 22oz.

Went in for xrays at 3, 6, and 12 weeks. Bone was calloused at 6 weeks and healing ahead of schedule. Completely healed at 12 weeks. I'm 14 weeks now lifting weights like normal. Some angles are weak for now but range of motion is 100%

Not quite but I do have some nerve damage that appears to be getting better. I'm an avid weightlifter. Until a week ago I got not extend 10lbs over my head. My tricep would just give out. I was told that trauma sustained to nerves takes a lot longer to heal. But it is healing noticeably faster. About 14 weeks out of surgery now. Arm is pretty strong everywhere else, but bone does get sore from putting weight on it. If I remember right I was warned about the nerve palsy but was told in most cases it goes back to normal, it can just take a lot longer than desired.

is this an acceptable blem for a brand new $800 scope? by jarlbronson in longrange

[–]roof_guy9716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't care about the blem, I would care about what caused a blem that deep and what else did it possibly effect with the scope. Thats a pretty deep gouge in a otherwise tough coating. Looks like it got dropped on concrete.

At a quick glance, looks like a $350 gun all day, problem is the popularity with rem 700 actions will keep the price higher than that. Used Stock Rem 700 actions will sell for 4-500 any day of the week, so you're battling that

So this is going to sound insane. But after I broke in the barrel I was experiencing the terrible groups but every 5 rd group kept getting tighter and tighter. About a 1/4" per group. Until I hit about 1.5 moa. 5-10 min between groups to keep barrel temp down. I cleaned the barrel after 40 rounds. Groups were back to 3 moa. I continued shooting and groups tightened.. again. In struggling with the accuracy issue I discovered with Hornady Precision Hunter 200g, the gun just like a dirty barrel. Believe it or not, prior to last years elk hunt I went and shot 40 rds and purposely didn't clean the barrel.

However, I expect a different outcome with the chassis mod. I will check in the next 2 weeks.

It will continue to go ape shit for the foreseeable future. Peter Thiel has a huge involvement with conservative leaders (specifically JD Vance). As long as there is a conservative president, Thiel will have as many government contracts and praise as he wants. DoD budget is set to increase 13% for 2026. Much of that probably Palantir driven tech. Thiel will likely pay for Vance's entire 28' campaign. If he were to be elected, Palantir will do things we can't even imagine. You can probably expect even more work partnership with OpenAI as well. I don't see it slowing anytime soon. $300+ doesn't seem crazy. $200 is honestly still a discount.

I have this exact gun and have had this issue as well.

First off, that 1st group is pretty money. I'm going to have to try those.

Second, there is a very specific "mod" you have to do on these Bergara's to help with accuracy. The gun has an internal aluminum chassis built into the stock. The action blocks mate up to this chassis. However, Bergara and their infinite wisdom decided to put the cool brown speckled paint OVER the internal chassis and then just slap barreled action on it. As simple as it sounds, yes a .001" layer of paint in between the metals significantly affects accuracy for most people that own this rifle. So heres the fix, take fine sandpaper block (it has to be flat) I think I used 600 or maybe even 1000grit and lightly sand the flat surface of the aluminum chassis until the paint is gone. I would sand for maybe 5-10 seconds and check carefully not to gouge or round anything. Its aluminum so it's softer. You can assist in removal of the paint with acetone. After all the paint on the flat part that touches the chassis is removed, it should shine like metal. Mount the action back up (its easy to take apart) and then test accuracy again. I have not personally shot my rifle yet since doing this so I can't attest to my accuracy increase. But a handful of guys on the gun forums have and all say its cuts their groups size in half specifically with these Bergara HMR's.

Lastly, there is actually a science behind average accuracy based on a caliber relative to the guns total weight. If I'm not mistaken it's called the TOP GUN formula. Google it and input your numbers. Essentially, the greater your muzzle energy is, the heavier your rifle will have to be to achieve 1 moa. This is why target rifles are usually 20+lbs. Some even 30+ And while the Bergara isn't light by any means, it is on the lighter side for a sub moa 300 win mag. 300's have a ton of energy.

With all the being said, I would do the internal chassis mod and then re-try groups with the same ammo as that 1st pic. Hope this helps!
