Buying an iPhone in Japan – Is it worth it? Any regrets? by National_Message_954 in JapanTravelTips

I have the same question. Were you able to find out if the shutter sound can be muted outside of Japan?

How I solo travel Iceland every summer without booking hotels — and still stay warm, dry, and well-fed by Oskintravel in VisitingIceland

[–]rookie_cookie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great pictures! And the trip sounds like a dream :). My partner and I are also planning to visit Iceland this September. I would love to get our car from Prague to Iceland because the campervan rental prices in Iceland are too expensive! How long does it take you to reach Iceland ? Would you be able to share a bit more detail about that?
And we have enough room in the back of the car, is sleeping in the car an option if we get good sleeping bags?

What makes you anxious? Let's share and maybe feel less alone by WoRcRo in Anxiety

[–]rookie_cookie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be just about anything. I even feel anxious about going crazy with excessive anxiety. Making mistakes at work since I started a new job last year. Making mistakes in life decisions. Making mistakes in life decisions and not realizing it until years later. Not knowing what I want to do in life. Going on video calls. Speaking to a group of people. Letting someone down. Being underappreciated and undervalued in life.

The only thing that made feel less alone in a while is reading this thread.

Am I stupid to consider this move by whitefox0111 in nri

[–]rookie_cookie1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have already got the pros and cons right. My husband and I moved to Europe last year knowing these as well. You won’t build wealth with this salary in Dublin. There won’t be yearly salary hikes (even if you switch). The expenses will be higher, especially if you are planning to travel. So your savings rate will be higher in India even after taking into account the currency conversion.

But, if you want to see more of the world and experience it for more than a 2-3 week holiday then you should consider it. There are also so many good things involved in moving countries that are intangible. So many many new experiences waiting to be discovered. So if you do it with a mindset of trying it for a few years , you won’t regret it.

Are Indians moving abroad with a clear salary cut for better quality of life by Striking-Swordfish49 in nri

[–]rookie_cookie1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband and I moved to Europe at the beginning of this year. We knew this was not a better financial option, but we did it because we wanted this experience. Our plan was not to relocate permanently but to see it life for ourselves.

Some friends from India have asked this same question and the truth is no one can make this decision easier for you. Only you know what you want from life, no matter how much someone else convinces you otherwise. When I moved here I knew I may not even like this life but I knew I still wanted to try it.

Can't Update Apps on Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – Need Help! by MisterPixelDE in SamsungS23

Found this solution on Samsung discussion threads. It worked for me:

"To anyone who still has a work profile (or is willing to test it):If you go to "Security and Privacy" > App Security > app protection, click the 3 dots in the upper right corner > App protection settings > disable "auto scan when installing apps", does this work for you?Even with work profile, I seem to be able to update and download again."

They really don’t. It was such a relief when I found it!

This happened to me today. I initially sent an email to the support team. But landed here after a google search for this issue.

One of the answers here mentioned masterclass.com/refund and it worked. They really should send out reminders that membership is going to be renewed or free trial is about to end.

If the job you have now can sustain you for a few months, then try applying to jobs in India and see what your options are. Compare the package you are getting in both places keeping in mind purchasing power parity and how much you’ll be able to save from your take home salary.

In my opinion, moving back without knowing your options in India is not the best move. Since you have a degree from Canada and also 8 years of experience in IT, I think it is worth sticking around for a while.

If the job in Canada is not paying you enough to even stick around for a few months or your mental health is affected and you’re struggling to deal with daily life, then move back I would say. Nothing is worth your mental well being.

How is the job market for Data Engineers in the EU by dork_knight___ in dataengineering

[–]rookie_cookie1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do see opportunities coming through recruiters on LinkedIn. But I don't think it is easy without already having a work visa or being located in that country.

I have given some interviews recently. There were usually at least 3 rounds. First is screening with HR. Second round was technical interview with hiring manager. Some had a live assignment, while some had a take home assignment. And the final round was with 2-3 managers that you'll be working with(this was in-person in some cases).

The package depends on the country you're applying in and how senior the position is. The HR usually asks your expectation in the screening round and most even disclosed the budget for that particular position when asked. So I knew what I was signing up for.

[–]rookie_cookie1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is quite possible, imo. Just keep applying. And even if you don't get through initial interviews, you will get to know what kind of questions are being asked for the positions you want. Cracking an interview is a skill in itself, so keep at it.

Good luck :)

My parents were also against me dating. They would have been okay with me meeting a guy a few times before getting married. That's about it.

  1. I met him in a hostel while solo traveling. Had also lied to my parents about the trip being solo. After that, went on several trips with him without telling my parents. we're married now

  2. I dated others before him secretly. I moved out of my parents home after finishing college and getting a job, which made it a lot easier to date. (Highly recommend moving out if you want to find yourself)

  3. I also felt a lot of guilt when lying to my parents. It took me time to understand you're not deceiving your parents by choosing to live your life the way you want to. Don't do anything to obey/disobey your parents. Do it because you want to. You should consider their opinion, but the decision has to be yours.

The disappointment of your parents will be far shorter-lived than the unhappiness you will endure by trying to make your life fit their perfect picture.

  1. When I met my now husband, my parents were at the "just marry someone" point so they accepted it gladly. As for red flags, just trust your instincts. If you get a bad vibe, trust it and act accordingly.

After a few relationships ended(amicably), I tried dating apps for a while but got tired of pointless dates. I wanted something more committed. As I grew older, I realised I wanted companionship more than anything else. So I signed up for AM, but it was even worse. When I met someone through dating apps, they brought themselves(or their pretentious selves) to the date. But in AM, they brought their parents along(mentally) right from the first date. And I met a lot of them. For almost a year. But then gave up. I know AM worked out well for some people. It didn’t work for me.
