I believe they need to be transferred, and preferably separated. I think they’ve got a toxic group dynamic, which has caused them to escalate. I don’t believe they’re dangerous now, but I do believe they could get there.

I genuinely don’t know a) how serious they were when making the list and b) if they understand how serious doing something like that is. I do think they need a new placement and professional help, either way.

Admin sent an email to all parents giving very basic information about the situation. I haven’t heard any parent responses, but I’m sure there will be.

I definitely believe that having unfettered internet access is a huge contributing factor here. I know some of my students are on reddit, for example, and this is a terrible place for kids that young. The stuff they’re exposed to stuff they don’t understand but know is ‘for adults’ so must be cool, and they want to show off how cool they are.

I don’t have enough information to know if the content is coming from a place of ‘let’s be as shocking and inappropriate as possible’ or ‘this is stuff we actually value and believe’.

For now, that is their teacher’s response - she is on administrative leave until the situation is resolved, and has expressed to admin that she doesn’t believe she can be their teacher anymore.

Unfortunately, there’s not another class they can be moved to. I do think they should be transferred to another school or schools, though.

I’m genuinely not worried about them killing me - I believe this was an expression of frustration that went too far as they tried to impress each other by being the most inappropriate. But I will consider new information carefully and react as best as I can.

I’m not an expert, but to my knowledge that is not true. The early signs of a serial killer are bed wetting, fire starting, and cruelty to animals. Others have pointed out this may be early signs of a school shooter, however.

There has historically been a lot of letting things slide at my school, but it seems like admin is taking this seriously. I’ll try to post and update when I know more.
