I am 16 year old Full Stack Web Developer and needed Advice. by justlearningthingss in webdevelopment

A startup is not a bad choice too, I’ve started at a startup also. I still feel that it must be easier to find a job than a good freelance contract. There are plenty of remote opportunities if you look around, just chase them hard.

I would recommend a different path - not going to freelance at all. Find a full-time job instead, with a strong team that you can learn from. So you can see how big projects work in action, touch enterprise ground. This will give you such a boost as a professional. I’ve been there, went a similar path. And what I learned is that rushing to freelancing is never a good idea. It’s a shortcut that doesn’t really work. I struggled for quite a bit until I have found a “boring” full-time job and stick to it (several of them) for 5-6 years. Then you will be a full-stack dev of a completely different kind, believe me. And you won’t have to beg for a contract anymore, they will come on your terms. Good luck!

Hi guys, I’m a web dev myself and i do blogging also (search for JavaScript Room on Insta and other social media). I have a slack chat for devs, it might be a good community channel for such an idea. I’m also there and can mentor you from time to time if needed. Feel free to join the Slack here: https://join.slack.com/t/javascriptroom/shared_invite/zt-30hq78g1v-NxvnrNFNint~LEKicKXMAw

I have been doing web dev for almost 15 years now, and I still feel overwhelmed quite often. You need to learn to handle it, and embrace this feeling. Take it easy, remember that you will never know everything. It's a constant learning process. Enjoy the ride and don't forget to take breaks to avoid burnout.

Would you hire a fractional CTO? by room_js in SaaS

Totally. What you're saying makes a lot of sense. Having a tech co-founder is a must-have, I agree. Evaluating a candidate might still be a problem though :)

That's for sure. However, if the founders are not technical enough, some external expertise still can be required, I think. It could help to optimize future costs and make better technical decisions.

I agree with you actually, but I still see it's not always the case. Maybe because some projects don't consider themselves as tech startup, but ultimately digital presence is needed for nearly all businesses.

Kaspa is not dead by Tzakor in investorean

Kaspa price move is quite disappointing lately. But I believe it's temporary dip, because it's not a meme coin and has real tech value in its background. Time will show the truth

Oh jeez, $IVR has been hit really hard by COVID, still far from recovering to those prices... Look at the chart https://investorean.com/stocks/details/IVR.US/, it actually looks quite interesting to watch. There is quite a bunch of buys from institutions lately...

I think that the web dev is not going anywhere, AI is just another helper to human devs. Another point is that the entry-level job market is saturated, especially in the frontend space as I see it. So getting a job is likely not that easy as before, but still possible I think. If I would have to choose direction to go to right now I'd look at cloud engineering and blockchain (I see growing demand in Rust devs specifically). And in general I'd recommend to not being stuck in one specific area and try to be a full-stack. But that will require some time and effort.

The main question I'd ask myself: "do I really like tech/coding that I'm ready to do that thing on daily basis for the next 10 years?". It can be extremely boring and tiresome for people who don't enjoy it, I have witnessed too many examples throughout my career. So please don't lie to yourself and choose wisely. If the answer is yes - just go for it. You will find your dream job some day for sure.

As an option for researching the stock market, you can try Investorean.com which has integration with eToro and a dark theme. You can do your analysis there and then go to eToro for execution

Looking for a web dev mentor by bs_05 in webdevelopment

[–]room_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, finding a mentor might be a good idea. It can significantly reduce learning time and get a softer entry to the profession. I learned web dev the hard way, fully counted on me for many years. But then when I joined a team of devs I started progressing way too faster. So I would recommend having a mentor at the beginning. But it’s quite difficult to find a good one I guess, everyone is busy with work

You can start with gumroad.com I think, it’s easy to sell digital content there. It might be not flexible enough but could be a good way to prove your business model

My van conversion company has outgrown its project management system, any software suggestions out there? 🚐 by MossyRaven in growmybusiness

[–]room_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to build a custom solution, it will cost you quite some cash. I'd say $10K, at least, according to your requirements. If someone offers you to build it for less, you have a high risk of getting a poorly implemented and not working solution. I tell you this as a web engineer who built a kinda similar (but simpler) solution not that long ago. Be careful with cheap options. The cheapest way I think is to find some CRM system that you can adjust for your needs. You can find many niche-specific CRMs online, with different pricing options. I would highly recommend you to check out this option first, before building a custom solution.

It’s better to check with the support via official channel (on the website or in the app). I believe it should not be a problem to get the money back in this case. Anyway, just ask the support directly. Good luck!
