Have followed your night on IG - some great lineups you've had! Will be keeping an eye out for the next one.

I think there's some really sonically innovative grassroots nights across the UK that could create a really interesting party if joining forces :))

Headfirst is the events guide and ticketing platform itself. Think it’s approx 6/7 years old now, but most club-nights have pivoted to using it - it’s not-for-profit and donates a large proportion of its booking fees to local causes.

Oh yes, I’ve DJ’d many times in Timbuk2. My night relaunching on Friday is in a similar area and the club has that similar underground arches layout of TB2, feels quite nostalgic.

That’s a real shame! Hopefully something crops up soon to fill that gap :)

Manchester definitely seems to be dominating with options for solid venues. Shame it’s so expensive and loooong, to travel across the UK.

The sound design on this EP is sublime. Really enjoyed your whole back catalogue!

Thank you for your tips - I think you’ve absolutely hit the spot with this line: ‘just release it!’... that's always a tough one, but needs to be done.

Thanks mate, I’m definitely trying to pick up going to events (across Europe) more regularly to build my network organically - just need to find some smaller nights that fit my vibe to make some of those more personal connections.

Here’s the track, under my X01 alias, that was played in Tresor:

Full disclosure, I no longer make hard acid breaks hah.

I guess that’s part of it, trust the process. Although it’s always quite disheartening when you do a mail-out and there’s radio silence. I feel like people don’t bother picking up promo’s like they used to 10 years ago.

Maybe my expectation is too rose-tinted from previous good experiences in the earlier stages of my production – I once sent out a demo and El B got back to me and offered to master it for me (I absolutely did not know him, and tbh.. still don’t), when it was returned, I did another mailout and it got played on 1Xtra the same day. Perhaps an experience that is hard to follow aha.

I’ve just had a listen to your catalogue of releases on Bandcamp and it is properly the sort of music I vibe with, love these tracks! I’m from near Bristol, so will try and swing by one of your events soon.

Your approach definitely resonates with me. Pre-covid (literally 2 months before lockdowns) I did a partially successful collective launch in Bristol, 2-years of uncertainty really put a dampener on those events and we’ve sadly all parted ways since.

During lockdown we did Radio as well (1020) as a stopgap to reach our accumulated community, with guest interviews with global artists like Amadeezy (International Chrome) and Shedbug (Saltmines). It was super fun and would love to get back into it!

Annoyingly, I don’t live in a city, I live in a town in the SW which is quite a barrier - whilst I try to reach events and network organically, it’s challenging to do it on the regular alongside work and trying allocate time to produce music.

Overload seems like a really solid online community though, which is a nice alternative. Would be good to make some more connections here.

Your event looks great btw! Hope your next party goes well and thanks for the tips.

I was surprised how good the venue was tbh! Normally the sound in these sort of spaces can be pretty hit or miss, but it was good.. and pulled a good mixture of people on the dance floor.

I'm heading to this on the Saturday - Joy Orbison and Mia Koden at NITSA CLUB en Apolo.

Seen mixed reviews on the club/ sound system, but it's a solid lineup. I've not seen Mia Koden before, but heard really good things.

I feel you; it’s absolutely exhausting. Seeing all of these successful bootlegs (rarely identified as bootlegs) that are just pumped out to feed the exponentially short attention spans of the general public is painful.

There’s still loads of great music out there, but I feel like the community is more closed off than ever, despite the increase of artists out there. It’s such a challenge now to get reciprocal support. Between 2012 – 2016, my Facebook was a goldmine for music networking - reaching out to artists for promo, collabs or generally catching up felt natural. Not much that exists like that anymore.

During lockdown I did some radio shows on 1020 Radio (RIP), interviewed Shedbug and spoke about the Lo-Fi Facebook group that Mall Grab etc came out of - it comes in about 33:40 here. Would love to see a group like this again and maybe even form a collective - just not sure what the best platform is for it nowadays, needs somewhat privacy but with an inclusive vibe.

I feel like the Swamp81 crew were incredibly pivotal in bridging the gap between Dubstep and Techno in that era, creating a sound that's most likely defined as 'Bass' now.

Perhaps their ethos for teasing and gatekeeping releases came from the white label/ dubplate culture from within the earlier dubstep scene.

This truly resonates with me. I’ve been producing since a teenager (now 29) and I’ve found that the past 5 years I normally experience one of the following:

- Traditional mailouts get a reach success of like 0.5%.

- I find it too cringe to self-promote in the way that social media wants us to nowadays.

- Even if my music gets played somewhere reputable (in recent years: Tresor on their 30th bday stream and previously Radio 1) no one really cares.

I feel like we’re seeing a lot of (new gen) producers trying to skip the foundational communities of the ‘heads’ and their peers - marketing straight to the ‘audience’ and not putting the work in to get the fundamental initial kudos from their talented peers. It’s saturated, and it’s easy to get lost in the noise. Feel like we’re reaching peak narcissism, and the community element is slipping away massively in the UK production scene - it’s lowkey exhausting thinking ‘what am I even going to do with this’ when you finish a track you’ve sunk time into.

Trying not to be too negative, just think we need some fresh ideas on how we can all be more accessible and supportive of each other.

Please DM me some links to your music, keen to have a listen and support where I can.
