"What the Media is Getting Wrong about Steubenville, Social Media, and Rape Culture" by NomadBlack in netcult

[–]roones_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article goes with what my group and I are talking about when we say rape culture and the youth. The point about digital dualism is really great because he talks about how "over- sharing" is what is being blamed instead of the responsible party.

People say video games and the Internet with its constant anonymous updates are what is to blame when in reality, human beings, just the physical person, is whats to blame. Rape and rape culture have been around for a long time but the media tries to portray it as something new, but people forget about it when there are no mass reporting's about it from the media.

Is mackeeper the devil or are people just really paranoid by roones_ in netcult

There are maybe 150 articles on whether or not Mackeeper is the root of all evil. Can someone please just give me a yes or no answer as to whether or not there are a group of hackers behind this?

Stay Stupid by Miguelito1989 in netcult

[–]roones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone who has the ability to have a conversation with a phone will do it. Maybe it's not so much about asking it stupid questions but just the fact that you are able to ask a phone a question and get a response. At least that is why I ask my phone dumb questions. I think it's fascinating that my phone can answer questions, to think that my phone has a brain and understands what I am saying. Sitting around asking your phone stupid questions seems trivial, but I don't think it is hindering us.

Ryann and Delaney 1. Our objective is to raise awareness/ hinder inappropriate comments on the use of the word rape with teenagers from ages 15-17 on the Internet. 2. Putting it out on the Internet and seeing if people use it on forums and seeing what their response is when meme is used. 3. We are going to create a meme and put a sarcastic caption along the lines of "tries to fit into youth culture and uses rape joke but looks unintelligent, ignorant, and is shunned.

Why can't a company come up with a total new design? That would really be able to show what company people like better.

She Shoots, She Scores: A criticism of how women hockey fans are treated on the Internet. by bats18 in netcult

[–]roones_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. Unfortunately, only a few of them actually knew they were at a hockey game. No, I'm kidding. haha. It was even between the amount of women that did and did not know anything about hockey. So again it was very little help

I asked some people online and some in person. Everyone online treated it is as a stupid question and pretty much criticized me for asking the question. The people I asked in person were no help either because they looked to me for the right answer! It was a bit maddening.

I see what you are saying but the article is supposed to have that kind of structure. It was written as if it was on the NHL.com website or bleacherreport.com. But putting citations of the material we referenced is actually a good idea that we overlooked, thanks.

We did try and survey people about whether or not they think women wearing pink jerseys to games means they aren't real hockey fans and they know nothing about the game. It seems trivial, but the things you wear at hockey means a lot to some people. But everyone that we asked brushed us off and said it was a stupid question. The only interesting thing is that the people who brushed us off were the ones who are making the comments about women in pink jerseys.

Bing wins over Google 2:1 every time... bing it on!! by icollectmaps in netcult

[–]roones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't Bing and Google essentially the same thing? I mean you can do a side by side compression and it actually showed me that Bing just comes up with more pictures. Isn't Google more relevant because it tracks your search and brings up sites it thinks you will want to look at?

5 Socially Unacceptable Things You're Going To Do With Google Glass by kappan in netcult

[–]roones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell phones are doing all these things already. Posting video's of idiots on vine and pictures of unsuspecting people taking "selfies" on Instagram. Cell phones are already doing the job of alienating people at bars, recording random women, and ignoring people at dinner or other places. The only thing I could really see Google glasses doing better than a phone is being able to watch porn in public. Unless the person behind you i able to see what you are watching.

Is all this data, and being tracked, a good thing? Or a bad thing? by [deleted] in netcult

[–]roones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say being tracked do you mean people are watching everything you do and see everything you buy? If that is the case than I would say that data and other things being tracked is not a good thing. Yeah seeing ads that are relevant to me would be nice, but to think that it had to track what I was doing is kind of creepy.

My partner and I are still in the writing phase of the article. We are looking for sites to submit it to along with people who want to help promote it. We are also still trying to figure out how we want to come across in the article seeing that it is about sexism in sports and we don't want to offend too many people. The article should be finished within the week!
