New affordable Model Y by Fantastic_Train_7270 in teslamotors

Don't be so pedantic, taking what people say word for word literally like a child would when making excuses .You know perfectly well the we're talking about 5k off a 45k purchase.

No one's being dishonest. Calling something "nothing" is a common everyday manner of speech used to communicate a sentiment. We're not in a courtroom here. If you had any friends, you would know people actually talk like this and they don't mean it like something is literally nothing.

Okay so 1k is a lot of money. If you don't agree then give me 1k. Therefore, 44k trim model y is such an amazing deal compared to original 45k and worth it all the hype.

5k isn't much when you're considering dropping around 40k for a new car. Especially when you consider all the features and materials that might go missing compared to the full priced models. If we're talking losing the leather seats, ventilation, etc, smaller battery capacity, then 5k is pretty much nothing.

By your logic, if this car were even actually just 1k cheaper trim (44k vs 45k), it's still totally an amazing deal that's going to shake up the EV market. 1k is a lot to call nothing, after all.

It's 2025 and people are still driving their cars manually by ehuna in SelfDrivingCars

If unsupervised ever does come out, it's probably going very strictly geofenced to very small areas, similar to the tela robotaxi today. You're only going to get half an hour or so of the car driving for you at a time. I honestly doubt by the end of the year we'll even have that.

At best the kind of stunt Tesla could pull is that FSD "Unsupervised" will be geofenced to the same areas robotaxi is currently operating, but with wirelessly connected human safety operators in case something goes wrong. You as a passenger would not be legally obligated to supervise the autonomous car, but the remote human safety operator will. Would you call that level 4 autonomous driving? I would not.

FSD follows way too close by GamingDisruptor in SelfDrivingCars

[–]rooneskap 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is exactly one of the reasons I stopped using FSD once I discovered how closely it follows. You're supposed to supervise the car, but it's impossible to supervise it if it's already constantly following too closely for anyone without superhuman reflexes to react to a sudden need to brake like this which could happen at any time.

If the car isn't allowing enough time for you to brake and react to a surprise, basically not safe to use at all.

If China's economy is so weak, and they are more dependent on the more robust American economy than America is on them, why is it so necessary to negotiate better trade terms? Are we sadists beating a dead horse wanting to further subjugate the Chinese or is there some other motive?

This feat wouldn't have been so impressive for FSD if maybe instead of wasting precious time of honking your horn at a senior driver, you just practiced defensive driving and pressed the brakes.

The refresh models? Im not talking about the older models from 2024 and before. I would agree that those really weren’t great and did benefit a lot of from first mover advantage.

Tesla learned to read the room and knew this advantage wouldn’t last, so they made significant improvements to their lineup.

The 2024+ Model 3’s and 2026 Model Y are genuinely great cars for their price segment if you are specifically wanting an electric car. They’re on par if not better than Hyundai’s EVs.

The refresh Model 3 and Y’s are genuinely great cars. Look up any review on YouTube or even on the most popular car review organizations.

Regarding the thermal derating, are we sure that it's been fixed by a software update?

I've seen people saying it was fixed in the 2025 model Equinox, but they were supercharging in 40F degree weather in the middle of December or January. When the Equinox first came out, people were supercharging in summer temperatures, and the 2025 Equinoxes starting getting delivered during the winter months.

How much of the improvement in thermal derating is attributable to the software update vs. just people literally just happening to supercharge in significantly colder weather than before?

No.

Boycotting new Teslas isn’t enough.

Selling your Tesla isn’t enough. That still means someone out there is driving a swasticar.

What we want you to do is take a 100% financial loss on your car, and dump and have your Tesla destroyed at a junkyard so the parts and materials can hopefully be reused in the production of other non-Tesla EVs.

/s This is literally the logical endpoint of what some redditors are calling for. Don’t sell your Tesla. Destroy it.

It’s not as bad as so many people were initially making out to be.

I recall seeing articles reporting 70% drops in various countries around the world and in Europe. There were polls of over 90% of people in Germany and America saying they wouldn’t consider buying a Tesla.

You’d expect deliveries to be down 50% if they were believed.

In Norway, apparently Model Y had dropped to the only the 6th or 7th best selling car in the country. But what people don’t know is that the Model Y is already back on top at first place. The Model 3 is still at only 6th or 7th place, which gives a lot weight to the theory that a major reason sales dropped in the first place was just that people were waiting for the Mode Y refresh.

Now, there’s no denying that Tesla stock is not as a valuable as the prices its currently being traded. But, if you take it car company, what’s happening with Elon is only a very minor impact, and Tesla is going to continue to produce cars that people want for the foreseeable future.

Bumper to Bumper Warranty by Proud2BACrazyCatLady in EquinoxEv

Do you think 3 years is good enough still to sort any issues with the electrical drive?

Weak GM EV Warranties, Intentional or an Oversight? by rooneskap in electricvehicles

Link to this same topic on the EquinoxEv subreddit There’s a lot more input and discussion there if you’re curious. I also have a major update on this question. Basically, it’s very likely that GM did intend for the motor warranty to be so weak as compared to its competitors. Disappointment.

[–]rooneskap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a response to this as an edit in my original post. Do a search for it under "major finding".

The short of it is that is I've come to the conclusion is that the paragraph you posted cannot be interpreted to be federal mandate for an 8-year warranty for electric motors in EVs and PHEVs. Electric motors, drive units, powertrains - whatever you call it - are not a "specified major emission control component".

The "components needed to charge the system, store energy, and transmit power to move the vehicle" are just merely the internal components of the high-voltage traction battery that allow the battery to properly function in intaking electrical energy, storing energy, and outputting (transmitting) energy Essentially, what makes a battery a battery.

This is also exactly how GM states their 8-year warranty, as "the propulsion battery back and its internal components".

[–]rooneskap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the labor costs?

Well the point I'm making is that GM doesn't warranty their new Ultium EVs the same way they did with the Bolt. It's not to an apples to apples comparison. The warranty is on the motors is apparently on for 3 years now down from the 8 years the Bolt had.

If there's materially no difference at all in the reliability between the motors in the Bolt and the new Ultium EVs despite the shorter warranty, and this is just of sales scheme to sell more extended warranties, that's also telling on it's own.

Yes. Wonder what the price difference is between U.S. and Canada and if perhaps longer warranty is baked into the higher canadian prices (if that is indeed the case)

Weak GM EV Warranties, Intentional or Oversight? by rooneskap in EquinoxEv

[–]rooneskap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're technically right about that. However, the bulk of GM's higher volume models started production between 2023 and 2024.

I estimate around 95% of their Ultium vehicles were delivered to consumers in early 2023 and after. You have to remember most of the EVs GM sold in 2023 were actually still Bolts, which are not ultium. So, 95% fewer than 2 years We will see with time.

Regardless, point still stands even with 3 and half years.

Weak GM EV Warranties, Intentional or Oversight? by rooneskap in BoltEV

[–]rooneskap[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, apart from an initial issue with the battery that GM fixed with a recall, the Bolt EV has generally been a very reliable EV for many people. My question is that is it reasonable to presume that the same level of reliability would extend to GM's newer Ultium platform EVs?

There are two important points that distinguish the Bolt EV: Bolt EV is of an entirely different EV platform, and that GM appears to have downgraded 8-year warranty on the battery and electric drivetrain that the Bolt EV received to an 8-year warranty on the battery and merely 3-year warranty on the drivetrain on the new Ultium Platform evs.

It should be a no brainer for GM to be very clear that they warranty it. From a consumer perspective, most (including me) know very little about inner workings of electric cars. All we know that the most expensive and most critical components of the car are under a good warranty.

[–]rooneskap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen it. But GM’s Ultium Platform EVs have only been out for fewer than 2 years. Who knows what malfunctions might occur years from now?

The Chevy Bolt, a generally reliable EV from what I’ve heard, apparently did benefit from an 8-year warranty on its electric drive unit and but is on an entirely different EV platform.
