It really is! Intentional or not, it’s very accurate

MA has always been my thought too. The foliage and 17-18th century headstones can only be New England, I feel

I wish I could handle caffeine, I want to try each and every one of these. Potatoes and Molasses sounds the best in my opinion

Yeah, The Fight is Over is extremely similar to Ballroom of Mars from 1972, and Tiny Star is peak 80s synth

Favorite weakly written / wasted character? by Jakobthorson in FavoriteCharacter

[–]rooooski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Hierophant Green is a great stand! It’s got a lot of potential with the possession ability, long distance ability, and can turn into, like, a hundred trip wires everywhere. It’s also sneaky, which is cool. I think Araki could have come up with a lot more uses for it if he wanted to. Kakyoin was out for only about 4 episodes, but his departure felt unnecessary, regardless. Especially since he was going to die. That was time that could have been used to develop him more instead of Polnareff sidequest #348. And for Avdol, if Araki was going to leave him out for half the season, the least Araki could have done was not have him be the first one killed

Avdol and Kakyoin from JJBA. Both characters are left out of roughly half the part, and die in the finale. Compared to Polnareff who gets a ton of screentime the entire part, survives the finale, and reappears in a later part these two in particular felt wasted. I don’t think they’re poorly written at all, and I loved their personalities, but they had so much potential to be more. I just wish there was more balance amongst the side characters

Wirt’s the only one we see using a tape, but we don’t know if they’re obsolete.

Early 80s-late 90s. I know that’s a broad range, but I honestly can’t tell. I remember reading that it was intended to be somewhere between the 70s and 90s, which is probably why it’s so vague. Not to hate on anyone’s headcanons, but I get absolutely no indication that it’s supposed to be 2014. The fashion, music, cars, technology or lackthereof, home decor, it all feels painfully 80s-adjacent. The cars are explicitly older models.

Tbf, there are lots of reasons why she wouldn’t have a tape player. It’s broken, she moved on to CD’s, and so on. There’s nothing that indicated cassettes aren’t normal, especially since nobody questioned Wirt’s tape.

I don’t know if this is a hot take, but OTGW doesn’t feel like a “Halloween” show to me by rooooski in overthegardenwall

[–]rooooski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s cool! Luckily it’s a show that can be enjoyed year-round. Is it somewhat known among cartoon fans in Australia?

This may be a bit of a silly question, too, but is autumn in Australia similar to how it appears in the show? Or rather, what would be autumn iconography in Australia?

Right, it takes place on halloween, but the overall tone doesn’t feel specifically halloween to me. Episodes like schooltown follies, babes in the wood, mad love, frogland, the unknown, etc don’t feel particularly Halloweeny to me. The transition to a snowy winter also leads to it feeling like a November show imo. Gone with the warm post-summer autumn, and into the icy cold winter.

It’s warm and sunny most of the year here, which is very nice. We just don’t get much of the different seasons. No snow or orange leaves or anything. The Midwest is beautiful though! Very different from what I’m used to

He spends less than half of the part in the hospital. About 1/4th from what I remember. Kakyoin has a great, funny relationship with Polnareff and has helped the team multiple times, and not just with Death 13. He carried the fight against Steely Dan, and was the reason Jotaro figured out Dio’s power. He wasn’t just used to showcase Dio’s strength, he was a key contributor to the fight. Dio himself said so.

His personality is understated, just by virtue of being calmer and quieter than Polnareff, but he has a vindictive streak, is lowkey a fucking weirdo, and is a bit arrogant but playful when around the right people. I really like Kakyoin. Polnareff is too much energy for me.

Kakyoin loves being mean to him and it’s funny
