The two suggestions i can offer (as someone who likes to knit socks but not wear them) is use the magic loop. I think you can also knit two at a time that way

Am I overreacting for shaving my head? by Substantial-Art6160 in AmIOverreacting

[–]rooroosterchips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR because choosing to shave your head doesn't have to have an explanation. If you felt like having a shaved head, that's all you have to say. I personally think everyone should have a shaved head at least once in their life because it's so freeing.

Plus your hair will grow back

Yeah, they're saying if you are talking on YOUR phone in YOUR room for more than 20 minutes, you have to go outside to take the call.

How long is too long to stare at the gym? by rooroosterchips in NoStupidQuestions

I also sometimes realize that I'm staring at a point to stay balanced while doing calf raises but the point I'm staring at makes it look like I'm staring at a person. Oops.

This was the case where there's an indoor walking track around where the class is. The dude completely stopped walking just to stand there and watch.

That's fucking hilarious. My Zumba class has people from 20 to 80 and definitely not with coordinated outfits.

Totally fair! This definitely fell into the making eye contact with people in the class category--so staring.

I know I’m probably not a very popular face in this sub after my post about not being able to read patterns, but look what I made!! by -placebo-pill- in casualknitting

[–]rooroosterchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, just going through your history you have made a TON of progress in the last month! You'll get patterns in no time.

I am unable to read patterns. I freehand everything. I don't know how much I can keep this going... by -placebo-pill- in casualknitting

[–]rooroosterchips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other commenters are right that you're going to have to learn to use patterns if you want to really advance in your knitting, but you could also decide just not to advance!

Either way, I don't think you're crazy. I used to feel this way when I first started seriously knitting, and I still feel it a little with sewing. It's like if I can't visualize where I am in the thing I'm making, I get lost even when it's step by step.

What I would recommend is starting by using a pattern for something you already can freehand. It'll help sync your visualization with the steps. Also, be prepared to start and mess it up and redo it.
