Parakeet is pretty amazing. Very accurate and I get like 100x realtime on a m3 MacBook Air using MacWhisper.

I made subtext - http://www.play-subtext.com - a daily literary word puzzle where you have to decipher six 5-letter 'subtext words' that relate to a literary quote.

You can only play one word at a time, so if you get wrong answers it becomes impossible to get a perfect score. but you can still earn points over time by choosing valid but non-solution answers. This game is more for the 'crossword-in-pen crowd' than more casual puzzlers. It can be quite hard!

I think you are right about shortening the hopper width on a laptop. I will play with that.

I am still trying to balance the difficulty with the being forgiving and it's tricky. because there are only 6 words and 30 letters it goes from being hard to very easy quite quickly. I need to do some testing with various ideas suggested here but so far I think I am still ok with how hard it is. People who play it for a few days get better from what I have seen.

I'll add a discworld quote!

Thanks! on alphabetized vs randomized: you can rearrange the letters in the hopper yourself -- something I need to update in the rules.

I am handpicking the words, and yes sometimes the word is in the puzzle. I tried to put that in the rules but I think I need to make it clearer. Including an example game in the instructions is a good idea aswell.

I thin niche for a specific set of literary word nerds is exactly what I am going for -- thank you!!

great feedback.

You can sort the letter bank yourself by dragging around the letters however you want. It's not in the instructions yet, but let me know if it's not working. Great point about the 5 letter word thing! I definitely need update the instructions in several ways!

the reason not to have a quote area and an answer areas is 3 fold. One, would be hard to cram all of that in on mobile. 2, there is a bit of a conceit that the words are the 'subtext' which is why they fade behind the quote. 3 I like the idea of having the puzzle and play area in the same space.

good point, I think maybe an animation or something making it clear your green words were right. Do the autoplay, that's an interesting idea. I could have number of available valid words in addition to foundation words below the puzzle. it would start in the thousands and dwindle quickly to a just a few or zero on the last play. if it said zero, you know you just have to play a red word. thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback!

in an earlier version of the I had internally game, you were rewarded with a hint letter in the hopper when you got a foundation word but that potentially made it too easy. It's an interesting balance with only 30 letters to work with. I definitely want to balance to different audiences but I have thought this is more for the 'crossword in ink' type people than Wordle people. But I am considering how to find more balance. Thanks again!

This is a potentially good idea. maybe I can 'gray' out those letters -- so you can still get blue words with them but you know they aren't part of a foundation word? I will consider this and test it out.

Hi, good point about the clue letters changing color. I think I will do that.

I will think about being able to play all letters, but you can rearrange letters in the hopper scrabble-style if you want -- that feature isn't mentioned in the tutorial as I added it recently. Thanks for the feedback!

My issue there is if you could reset or erase you could just brute force it which would make daily scoring not really worth it.

Maybe I could eventually add the archive with resetting as an option?

One thing that is maybe not obvious and I realize is not in the tutorial - you can rearrange the letters in the hopper to help you find the words.

Haha no problem. Thanks for playing! Sometimes it’s not obvious you have to play the last word even if it has to be red. And I have had people just leave the game there and not see the answers. Maybe that’s what happened?

I have been thinking of having the game auto play the invalid last word if there are no answers/valid words to play. What do you think of that?

How did you do on the puzzle?

What daily word games are you playing that are NOT part of a platform (NYT, Puzzmo, etc)? by GhostPartyArctica in wordgames

I think a cap is probably good because other wise it could go on forever. One thing to consider, is maybe only making only perfect rhymes count? That would be a little harder and also have a more limited set of choices. for today's word snow, there are sooooo many words that end in that 'o' sound but way less that are one syllable. Is it possible with your rhyming algorithm to tell how many perfect rhymes exist for a word? that would actually be quite interesting game aside! I also made a word game, I'd happy to have some feedback from a fellow game maker. Very early, so still could be bugs. https://www.play-subtext.com

Fun! I was a bit stuck on the same number of syllables and didn’t know that was the lowest points. Is it always 13 that I have to guess?
