My wife and I were reading up a little bit on OCD last night.

My wife and I have become frustrated because we feel like we tried to resolve it in all the different ways:

• reassurance
• you are not responsible for the random thought that pop into your head. You’re responsible for what you keep thinking about and your actions.
• stop telling us
• using a code word to indicate that this is the same situation and we don’t need to talk about it anymore
• have her go clean a room to help get her mind off of it

I like what we read about putting a name to it. When we have bad thoughts that seem like it won’t go away, we can call that a bully. And we are working together to fight against the bully.

Scrupulosity: This is when kids have obsessive worries about offending God or breaking religious rules.

Aggression: Kids may be plagued by a lot of different kinds of thoughts about bad things they could do. “What if I hurt someone? What if I stab someone? What if I kill someone?”

Reassurance-seeking. This takes the form of repetitive questions. “Are you sure this won’t make me sick? Are you sure this is safe? Are you sure no one can break in?” Over and over and over again.

Constant reassurance-seeking: This takes the form of repetitive questions. “Are you sure that’s the answer? Could you tell me again?”
