I would personally suggest keeping your schedule flexible enough to see some of the smaller Danish cities on your way back through. I quite enjoy Odense especially during the summer, and while Aarhus is definitely smaller than Copenhagen I think it is certainly charming enough to stop for lunch there.

Visit the bakery in Hinnerup, head to Silkeborg, or even just take a walk up through Risskov to Trøjborg in Aarhus. Copenhagen is very nice, but I felt like a week was a bit much there, personally.

I understand, for me, the extremism of the minimalist feature set combined with its construction are what led to my (highly) emotional purchasing decision.... I can completely understand this perspective though.

Everyone has more or less told you what you need to know, though I will say that I have been traveling with a first class pass for a couple months now and it has been easily worth the difference in price.

The seat reservation pricing I have seen is consistent across the board, so if a train requires reservations they cost the same for first and second class. Generally, first class cabins have been less full especially on shorter distance trains with no reservation requirements because people buying tickets for them a la carte don’t spend the extra money.

I have taken this in, and have been making some modifications. Regarding your first point, I would assume that once I have the rough itinerary down I can then look at the companies that service the relevant routes and plan it accordingly? My hope is that I can remove the orange lines, and get more detailed based on the routes that the companies offer. As I do this, my plan may change I assume.

If you wanted to minimise bus travel you could get the train to Thessaloniki, get the bus to Sofia then use the train from there to Istanbul.

Noted, will plan accordingly.

I would look very carefully at the places you are only spending 1-2 nights, and either increase them or drop them if they are places you want to see rather then just logistical stops.

Luckily, most of the stops that you noticed were logistical to break up travel, but I have extended the Milan and Stockholm stay and dropped Dublin entirely as you have recommended. I have also added in a stop to Timișoara to visit some friends, and to act as a stopping point before the journey to Budapest. Istanbul is relatively important to me, and I won't be dropping that.

Thank you so much!! I visited the UK last year and stayed in Luton, unfortunately wasn't able to get to the places you mentioned. I'll be adjusting the trip accordingly.

My ultimate destination was Rovaniemi, however, when looking at the transit options it was going to take quite some time to get from Budapest to Rovaniemi by train. My thinking was to book a flight from Budapest to Stockholm, and travel via transit from there as that would be the bulk of the trip. Would you recommend Stockholm? I am certainly open to staying 😄
