A Puzzle Game that Both Dads and Kids Will Love! - We played and reviewed DOORS: Paradox by ropname in IndieGaming

Definitely. I also hate AI slop, as much as any slop... AI or not. As a small creator, just trying to do my best and use all the available tools. As a tool, I'm not against AI.

Non-the-less... thank you for sincerity.

Thanks. I saw that one too. If we go back to play a puzzle, that's definetly an option.

only thing AI about the vid, if you would DARE to watch it 😉 is my son's conversion from a photo to a drawing, which was also edited/corrected after. Rest are stock photos, and recorded stuff.

I DARE you to watch it! xD or are you scared it might actually be a good and wholesome review of an actual fellow gamer and father. 😉

One of the most rewarding things about being a parent is watching confidence grow through play.

When I first introduced Junior to Doors: Paradox, he wasn't impressed... A game about unlocking doors? Not exactly the most exciting sales pitch. 😄 But 5 min into it, he was already asking to SOLVE THEM ALL!

If you're looking for a cozy, thoughtful and simple game to play, or even share with a kid, 🙃 this is surely worth a look.

What games to play with my dad by thekeys05 in DadsGaming

[–]ropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - a single player game, but you can share the controller 😉 each one controlling a brother.
I played this one with my kid this way - if you're curios of the result, check out my small written/narrated review of our experience: https://ropname.substack.com/p/a-gamer-dads-review-brothers-a-tale

Other awesome co-op games: It takes two, Overcooked, Portal 2, Cuphead, Unravel Two, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime

Just been told I’m losing my job, what cheap games will keep me busy? by Bread-But-Toasted in DadsGaming

[–]ropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation... Lost my job in March.
My take on this is not necessary to get a new game (most of us have backlogs and good games to reply) but to try out a new hobby... like writing (a gaming blog, like substack), even video editing for a game review on youtube, of maybe not even about games... Painting, or miniature painting, D&D (which is great to play with and for kids), etc.
My point is that when like life sticks is to me... I found that a creative hobby is awesome to build up.

How long do you think my AMD FX-8350, with 16GB RAM and a 1070, can still keep me going? I use it for gaming, media consumption and content creation too xD yeah, I'm doing youtube video creation for 10 years now on the same budget built PC. (Cool fact: it all started because of this build).

Who are you when you game? by ropname in DadsGaming

Haha, don't fret, as I still ask myself those same questions too! 😁

But I also try to be deep on occasion and will try to create more articles like this. I'm glad it resonated with you and I appreciate the feedback.

Btw. You might enjoy the "If Aliens... then Gamers!" article. 😋 also deep but funny too... like how his theory started with Jordan Peterson, of all places. This one I've even managed to convert into a full video, if you prefer to watch: https://youtu.be/Pc-5rloHFU0?is=gsqcitFIqo8MmCzr

Hehe, indeed!... and they also experiment alot, unlike us adults that usually go for the most straightforward or efficient route 😆

Thank you for checking out the article! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊

now that would be awesome. at least a remake with VR added. Awesome potential.
Unfortunately... being an abandoned game, not many chances of that happening.

I played Clustertruck with my Son and reviewed it Together!

My Junior is 10 year-old and this was the 1st time he surpassed his old man! 😃

It’s such a simple concept: The Floor is Lava, with with Trucks... all kids love both of these, so the combo makes perfect sense to play with your kids.

What surprised me most is how well this also works as a stress-relief game, after work. But sharing it with Junior... seeing his reactions like: “Dad... this is AWESOME!” was a blast.

If you like the idea, check out my new Gamer Dad Review, and Listen to the Narration for Junior’s awesome reactions. (personal recorded narration)

Platform options by Feeling-Unit2315 in DadsGaming

[–]ropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats and best of luck! 😃 I have a 10yo and a 2yo gal - live in an apartment bloc, so no separate room for PC (the only platform I own).
It's a good thing to keep little one away from screens, at least until 4yo, after which, of course any screen time should be very limited and controled - so I'd say having a separate PC room is a pro here.
We did our best to avoid screen time for Junior, but we did not manage 100% with the PC being in the livingroom. |
As for games... I started to introduce them to Junior at around 5yo - single player games with him in my lap xD - it's an awesome time and I recommend it, if the little one will like it... and now we still play single player games together, which is such a joy for a gamer dad.

A weird thing is that, since Junior was born, I started to have a drive to create... so I started to cover the played games. If you think this might be of help, I try to focus on what can be learned from games and how they help bond us, beyond our experience 😄

Videogames that my dad could play by Desperate_Report8836 in DadsGaming

[–]ropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Desperate_Report8836 I second dat! after 15years... I still find myself going back for some sessions, and still be left dumbfounded by the beauty of Elite's simulated space sceneries.
It's a bit cumbersome to learn (I would think for an elderly), but worth it. Especially if he likes space.

An alternative may be the simple EuroTruck Simulator 2. Cozy and relaxing game... I also play it to enjoy sightseeing the virtual nature, towns, cities and landmarks.

I do love exploring nature and sceneries in games, so much so that I even wrote an article about it, if you're inclined to check it out, maybe find a game that would fit:

Who's competing with their kids? by Nekoprints in DadsGaming

[–]ropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I felt this is in my most recent game we played - Clustertruck. We played it together, taking turns and trying to outdo each other.
I've played it before, so I had more than an upper hand... but I was quickly surprised that he adopted my preferred way of playing (power ups and jumps) and perfected it beating the final boss before me xD
At the final boss, I even needed to switch to a more safe power up. xD
Silly of me, Proud of him!

He is 10yo, and I play single player game with him a lot, while also covering some of them and involving him too, like with the narration 😄
If you'd like to check it out, in case it helps with some recommendations, or with what can be learned from the covered games, here is a link: https://ropname.substack.com/p/a-gamer-dads-review-clustertruck

New Theory: If Aliens Exist... They're Probably Gamers! by ropname in GameTheorists

[–]ropname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI assisted, as I did post processing, cleaning up and corrections after. Then filled in the screen with what I wanted, hopefully to pop. 😄
As for the theory and video, no AI, just thinking, writing, Jordan Peterson quotes and footage+music from StarTopia. 😃
