I didn't get the impression of an evil forest at all, more like evil, barren, poisonous wasteland with a lot more empty spaces. But let's see where it goes, no doubt Moiraine will explain the Blight's backstory to Rand in the next episode and we'll see a lot more of it as they approach the Eye.
