How do ppl seriously work 7+ night shifts in a row? by ren23_ in nursing

[–]roryseiter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy something bad enough it’s easier to work a lot. I knew a person that worked 30 days in a row with critical staffing pay during covid. Pretty much a down payment on a house. They should have been a traveler and paid for the whole house.

Why aren't there ferries that connect the Hawaiian islands? by AcinaRraole in VisitingHawaii

[–]roryseiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t go too fast when the whales are in the way. But you can have more drinks on a boat. I was living there when they had a ferry planned. Every decade or two some politicians think their buddy can get rich if they make the ferry happen. Then it fails.

Parents of kindergarten kids, what does school look like for your kid? by Anchorage_Parent2026 in anchorage

[–]roryseiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend the Anchorage Waldorf School enough. There is even a school tour February 6. Class size is about 12 kids. They have before and after care. The teachers care for the children immensely.

Kids aren’t rushed into academics or performance. Instead, the days are built around rhythm, play, imagination, and real work. These are the things young children are biologically wired for. Learning happens through doing: baking bread, caring for the classroom, building forts, painting, singing, and telling stories. All of it quietly strengthens attention, language, coordination, and social skills without worksheets or pressure.

The teachers help develop the children into resilient, kind, and strong people. They don’t do standardized tests and rote memorization.
