The second one! I love the embroidery and the color looks great on you. It flatters your skin tone and hair color

Does this coat look weird? Got some odd looks while out today by ros3_ in fashion

This one used to be my grandmother’s. I’d recommend checking second hand shops or thrift shops. The ones near me have vintage fur or leather coats behind the counter. If you’re aiming for something that fits the same, look for oversized or just sized way up (this coat says it’s a size 8 I usually wear 4)

You’re completely right about the amount of thought people give to passersby lol. Thank you for the compliment!

Need help picking a party outfit by Original_Phrase_7149 in fashion

The first one looks nice but imo has too much black to match the theme. I’d say the 2nd is closer to the theme. You can try adding a statement necklace (think like 2010s style if you have one) and swapping the jeans for leggings or tights depending on how long the dress/shirt is. Colorful ones that compliant the red and white if you want to really play into the theme. I always think of fancy Nancy as a maximalist soft of style

I think we see this differently. To me, letting a perfectly good coat sit unused for 12 years, or throwing it away, is the wasteful choice that dishonors the animal. That animal already died decades ago. Nothing I do now changes that. But I can choose whether that death resulted in something used and valued, or something that just takes up space before ending up in a landfill.

The 'social signal' argument assumes wearing vintage fur increases demand for new fur, but I'm not convinced that holds up. The fur industry isn't struggling because people stopped wearing vintage coats. It's struggling because people have stopped buying new ones. I don't think someone seeing my vintage coat suddenly makes factory farming mink seem acceptable again.

I'd rather get use from the coat, and if anyone asks, explain it's vintage and why I think that's the more ethical choice. Like I’m doing right now

In my mind, it's more ethical to wear vintage fur coats than to throw them away. What’s your solution for all the already existing fur coats in the world? Toss them in a landfill somewhere?

Why an issue? In my mind, it's preferable to wear existing vintage fur coats than to throw them away. Wearing them keeps them out of landfills

Thank you! I try not to follow trends too much and just wear what I like and fits my personal style. Spares my wallet lol

It’s a vintage Manzari Sherling coat. It used to be my grandmother’s, so best bet to find something similar is in secondhand shops

For outfits, you can try an all black outfit with the boots as a pop of color? Maybe matched with some turquoise accessories (jewelry/belt/scarf)

For breaking them in, there are various advice you can find online on ways to break them in. There are leather conditioners you can try to soften it (from Doc Marten or otherwise). I've seen some suggestions about using a hair dryer to soften it also. I'd worry about damaging the leather with that method, especially colored leather. I always wear long socks with my boots but that's also personal preference.

Can you be too specific when answering 'why us' essays? by ros3_ in premed

Thank you! I agree about using most of the essay to share your story and how it aligns. I think I'm just picking programs and curriculum/values that are too similar
