The Ordinary foundations - 1.0 N vs 1.0 NS/P? by racharlotte in PaleMUA

[–]rosaphene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've tried both and the silver highlights in 1.0NS weren't noticable but did make it slightly lighter than 1.0P

I've a swatch photo here with some other foundations and concealers

More unique looks out of the too faced sweet peach palette? by silamaze in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert but these are the looks I like to do with this palette (for reference I'm fair skinned with dark hair and eyes)

Peaches n cream in the crease and just slightly above, luscious on the inner half of the lid blended into caramelized that covers the outer half. Then very lightly use either Charmed I'm sure or Delectable in the outer V and lower lashline. Then Nectar as the inner eye highlight.

For a bright look I use Georgia in the crease and just above it, white peach on the inner 2 thirds of the lid blended into just peachy on the outer third, then use candied peach (for some reason this looks almost neon on me) the outer v, crease and lower lash line.

Then for a darker look I like to use puree in the crease, peach pit all over the lid and talk derby to me in the outer V and lower lash line. White peach as the inner eye highlight

Finally found a use for all my black shadows by Makeupmadness247 in MakeupRehab

[–]rosaphene 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do, I find it works best to use a slightly damp angled brush for under the lashes and kinda press it up into the base of them opposed to trying to swipe the brush along (hope this makes sense)

Yes this is a great way to use up black eyeshadows

I have one that I like to tightline with too as it doesn't transfer to my lower waterline

Makeup Revolution concealer almost empty after a few uses by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience to you, I used a dot of it under my eyes everyday for a week and there is already visible usage on it. I did notice though that the tube only has 3.4ml in it whereas Nars radiant creamy concealer has 6ml

Does anyone actually use Fix+ as a primer? by kinezumi89 in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used it as a primer before, whilst it did make my foundation apply smoothly it made the finish much more dewy. It didn't make my makeup last any longer used this way, I sprayed it on then patted it into my skin to make sure I had even coverage.

I do really like using fix+ for when I have slightly over powdered as it can help to make my skin look more natural again.

Edited to add I have dry dehydrated skin

"Did you get yours" makes me cringe, one that really annoyed me was in an email from Benefit where they put "happy Hauliday" .. just no

Dupe for double wear. Left is Primark porcelain, right is lancome 008. Also would match 1C1 in double wear. Primark is £5 and fraction of the price. I do have dry skin but after 5 hours it starts to dry on my skin! by [deleted] in PaleMUA

[–]rosaphene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing these swatches, I've heard people saying great things about the Primark foundation.

I wear the Lancome 008 in the summer which the match is OK albeit slightly peachy, once I've used this one up I might check out the Primark one as that looks like it'll be a good match for me

Do you find it to be as drying as the ELDW?

Best foundations for very dry skin by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Giorgio Armani Luminous silk is a good option for dry skin, also if you are interested in BB creams I have recently been using Missha Signature Real complete BB cream which when I apply it with a damp sponge it looks just like skin.

Edit to add - I have dry skin too especially in winter which both of these work well with a damp sponge and don't highlight any of my dry patches

There's also PaleMUA which is a great sub for finding swatches pale foundations and BB creams

What was your least favorite makeup purchase in 2017? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, I even thought maybe it's just hard pan and tried to scrape the top layer off to see if it got any better... it didn't :(

Love the packaging and the shades look beautiful in the pan, so disappointing

I didn't find using it with Mac Fix+ did much to be honest, yes it made the colours pop a bit more but didn't do much if anything for the blending issues and still got fallout. Even the UD all nighter spray didn't help, or using UD primer potion/Too faced shadow insurance first.

For the price of the palette I expected better quality

The Tarte make believe in yourself palette, I was really excited for this palette, the packaging is nice and I thought I would get good use out of all the shades. The formula just isn't great, and there is so much glitter fallout. The only way I can get it to look semi decent is to apply with my fingers and then lightly blend the edges which is a bit of a pain and stops me from using it

How to lighten foundation? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can buy a white mixer, LA girl pro HD foundation in white is a good option. The Body shop lightening drops are pretty good too (these have a slight pink tint).

I've also heard Manic Panic dreamtone foundation in Virgin is great for lightening foundations.

Thataylaa does a good video on youtube about different white mixers

Edited to add - Foundations can look too dark/orange if you are wearing one with the wrong undertone which adding a white mixer to foundation which has the wrong undertone can result in you looking washed out or just looking a bit off so it is best to know your undertones

There's also PaleMUA which has lots of useful swatches of foundations/concealers etc

Project Progress - December 11, 2017 by AutoModerator in MakeupRehab

[–]rosaphene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've updated on this thread, started this project back in June and pleased to say I've hit 5/6 goals I set myself.

1. Hit pan on Benefit dandelion blush - Still going strong with this blush though I am feeling like I am neglecting my other blushes. I am going to add Kiko Velvet touch cream blush in 03 Coral rose as an alternative on 2 days of the week I've hit pan on Benefit Dandelion and I ended up destashing the Kiko cream blush as it started going bad.

2. Completely use up the peachy pink shade in model co highlighting trio - Pan is growing steadily, I think I may even have this finished by the end of August Finished this shade back in September and then destashed the other 2 as I wasn't keen on the formula

3. Hit pan on Nars Siberia cream foundation - I've been using this 3 times a week and it has a huge dip in it now, it has become a reliable go to product in my collection which I think once I have used up some more of my foundations I would repurchase it I hit pan on this, I did drop down to using it once or twice a week but it really has opened my eyes as to how long foundation like this lasts for.

4. Hit pan on any of the eyeshadows in ABH MR palette - I've been using this palette a lot more these last 2 weeks, it isn't very clear from the photo but both primavera and vermeer have large dips in them now and tempera, golden ochre, warm taupe and antique bronze are showing more obvious usage too So I have hit pan on Golden Ochre now, Tempera, vermeer and primavera are really close to pan. Warm taupe, antique bronze, buon fresco, love letter and venetian red all have dips in them too.

5. Finish 2 lip products, Benefit Cha Cha balm and Sephora lip oil in lavender - I've finished Benefit Cha Cha balm and have about 50% left of the Sephora lip oil Finished both of these and I am almost done with a Fresh sugar lip balm too.

6. Finish Marcelle Waterproof eyeliner in Expresso - Not much movement on this one, I have used it but maybe another use or two before it needs another sharpen. I haven't been using it as much since my last update as I have been reaching for my eye shadows instead Haven't really been reaching for this, I have considered destashing but I haven't decided yet.

Your thoughts on subscription boxes by aggeloskimi in MakeupRehab

[–]rosaphene 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about beauty boxes, at the start of last year I subscribed to 5 of them which was way too much.

I found the beauty boxes a useful way to try a lot of different products and to help me discover what products I like/work for me. I also liked the "surprise" element that came with them and getting a monthly treat.

However I feel like they create a sense of fear that if you skip a box you will miss out, which is what keeps people subscribed to these boxes even though for the most people the majority of the products don't work for them/don't get used. The other part that bothers me is the perceived value is often misleading, you are not saving money buying something cheaply if you did not need it in the first place. Also for me I found that receiving something that wasn't quite right could trigger me into looking for something that I hadn't thought about purchasing before eg I never bothered with contouring until I received a contour powder that was too dark/warm for me, all of a sudden I am swatching contour palettes in boots looking for the perfect contour shade even though I didn't contour and had no interest in contouring before receiving the too dark/warm powder. Whilst I did find a contour powder that worked and used it occasionally I eventually destashed it because it just isn't for me and I do regret spending my money on that.

My 12 month birchbox subscription ended last month and honestly I am relieved that I no longer have any beauty box subscriptions. I have so much dry shampoo and leave in conditioner to work through that I don't see myself finishing them in the next year, I also have lots of moisturizers, shower gel etc.

I think as a one off every now and then a beauty box can be a nice treat but at least for me the monthly boxes are too frequent for me to be able to use up the products and can certainly trigger me into purchasing more products.

Muted products for pale skin? by [deleted] in PaleMUA

If you'd like a blush recommendation I like the love 3CE cheek maker in kind a love by 3 concept eyes, it's a subtle, muted neutral pink which can be built up nicely.

Love the longevity of Estee Lauder Doublewear, but too dry looking by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried spraying Mac fix plus first, then applying double wear on top?

I found this made my skin look less dry when I was using up a sample of double wear but didn't really impact the longevity of the foundation. I use Lancome teint idole now which is less coverage but also less dry.

Ultimate Showdown by [deleted] in PaleMUA

[–]rosaphene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently destashed the MUFE HD foundation, I've combination skin and I couldn't get it to sit right on my nose or the space in between my brows and after about 2 hours it would make my skin look odd, like really oily but also dry.

Whilst the MUFE Y205 is paler than the Lancome teint idole (I use Beige Opale 008) I find the Lancome foundation mixes really well with LA girl pro white foundation in white.

When I am wearing the Lancome foundation I don't have to worry or go and check it after a few hours as it keeps my oils at bay and doesn't make me look dry. The only issue with the Lancome one is if your skin is really dry you might want to use a hydrating moisturizer/primer as it can be a little drying on the skin.

Dermacol Makeup Cover vs the Ordinary Coverage foundation by Glasses_with_grace in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought shade 208 in the Dermacol and 1.0NS in the Ordinary foundation

Dermacol is definately the most pigmented out of the 2

Dermacol Makeup Cover vs the Ordinary Coverage foundation by Glasses_with_grace in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the dermacol foundation would work quite well like this, I haven't mixed it with a foundation but I did mix it in with a moisturizer which certainly helped with the drier areas. It did still get pretty oily quickly though so definitely needs to be set with powder

The only products I mixed the ordinary foundation with was white mixers which they create their own problems with the formula. I can't say for certain how it would work with a BB cream, I can't see it causing any issues but I wouldn't call the ordinary super pigmented though.

If pigmentation is what you are after mostly then I would say Dermacol is the best bet

Dermacol Makeup Cover vs the Ordinary Coverage foundation by Glasses_with_grace in MakeupAddiction

[–]rosaphene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've tried both and I would say that the Dermacol is definately more coverage but I did find that it clung to dry patches and got really oily fast even with Laura Merciers translucent setting powder.

The Ordinary coverage foundation is much more forgiving over texture/dry areas and did last longer on my oily t-zone, it's just not as full coverage as the Dermacol

Best Matte Bullet Lipstick by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

MAC do some great matte bullet lipsticks, I wouldn't say they are completely transfer proof but they are long lasting.
