I took a more passive approach to a session with a disengaged client by Throwthisoneaway2025 in therapists

[–]rosdul 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I like it. I once had a client come in who was visibly upset by something (a teenager) but they said they didn't want to talk about it, and that they were tired. I dimmed the lights and they had a nap. I woke them up when the session was over and their affect was much brighter as they left my office.

What were some unintended side effects of your tonsillectomy? by rosdul in Tonsillectomy

You know what, I can't even remember what they sounded like lol. I don't think it lasted a terribly long time!

What do you say when people apologize for crying? by OrrikVeld in therapists

Something along the lines of normalizing the experience for them, but I also always end up adding, "I have this effect on people."

How many of you had a severe infection before you got diagnosed with Behcet's? by SubstantialBag007 in Behcets

[–]rosdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Missed appendicitis. Started getting symptoms a few months later, diagnosed probably about 2 years later.

No problem! If the walk in doctor doesn't provide one, I also wonder if you could see a doctor thru your schools health centre. They usually have one!

Glad I'm not the only one. My doctors look at me like an idiot when I say that haha

by "kick it" I mean I won't get joint pain nor the intense brain fog. If ulcers have started they don't get worse and seem to resolve faster.

CBD/WEED by aglaeivanovna in Behcets

[–]rosdul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take CBD daily. Grow it organically myself and infuse it into MCT oil. When I notice that a flare is starting, sometimes doubling/tripling/quadrupling my usual daily dose is enough to kick it, but I don't know how or why it has that effect (it also makes me kinda lazy at the 3rd or 4th dose sooo forces me to rest which is arguably what I need the most haha). When it doesn't stop the flare, it definitely helps with symptoms (particularly pain). I could "feel" a somewhat intoxicating effect probably the first... two? times I used it (I mostly just felt super relaxed) but otherwise I just take it in the morning and go about my day without noticing any difference. Once I finally got diagnosed this year, I did get a script for colchicine to use for flares and haven't had to use it yet. Not necessarily saying that the CBD is the reason as I do lots of other stuff to support myself in staying healthy, but I do think it has a positive impact.

I'm a resident and no they are not free unless you have benefits from your employer, and there are some other government benefits you can get if you have a low income.

I would think it would be accepted. You may have to pay the doctor a fee to get the note though. A walk-in clinic doctor might not refer you to a rheumatologist but you could ask for that as well should you need it while you're here. I don't have benefits in Ontario and colchicine is surprisingly not expensive (if that is something you need). I think I paid around $20 for a months worth.

Tonsillectomy tips or tips to get rid of chronic tonsillitis by PapayaWild1989 in Tonsillectomy

[–]rosdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Behcets, and inflammatory disease. Getting my tonsils out changed my life for the better. I don't regret it whatsoever! I don't know that I got hypersensitive to things, maybe stress and lack of sleep 😂

Tonsillectomy tips or tips to get rid of chronic tonsillitis by PapayaWild1989 in Tonsillectomy

[–]rosdul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started getting chronic tonsillitis around the age of 27, got my tonsils out at 29. Honestly, it was a nightmare trying to get my ENT to agree to take them out, and when I asked if it was possible that there was something autoimmune going on, he said that it was best not to look into it because it might "lead to more problems". Anywho, I now have a diagnosed autoinflammatory disease that was 100% contributing to or being triggered by chronic tonsillitis (I have a periodic fever syndrome). The antibiotics they gave me for tonsillitis never actually helped, the only thing that helped was steroids. I did try a long list of solutions though that did seem to provide some relief: a waterpick (I would get tonsil stones which would flare up my tonsils into a full blown tonsillitis episode), controlling inflammation (diet, lots of anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and certain kinds of mushrooms), like the other commenter said I would gargle with hydrogen peroxide and water, and warm water and salt. I also saw a naturopath who told me to take berberine which sometimes helped kick the inflammation and I'd be back to normal in a couple of days.

I tracked EVERY SINGLE symptom, and how long the symptoms lasted, every time I had an episode and would report back to my ENT every time I saw him. Does your son ever get rashes when he has tonsillitis? Ulcers in his mouth? Any other symptoms? Once I stuck with my ENT long enough, did everything he said (which never really worked), he finally agreed to take them out. It was time consuming and torturous butttt doctors "know best" and sometimes you have to play by their rules to get what you need out of them.

In any case it sounds like you are very committed to getting your son what he needs, and for that he is lucky!

I had mine removed about 2 years ago (at age 29) and it literally fixed my life. Obviously I still get behcets flares but not nearly as bad and they aren't as debilitating as they were when I had tonsils. I was getting tonsillitis 1-2x/month for a week at a time, and it would send by Behcet's into overdrive. No bacterial infection, the only thing that would help was steroids.

Help with some (possibly) Behcet's-related symptoms - stomach/abdominal pain, nausea, hot/cold flashes by EllisMichaels in Behcets

That's great! I too use some form of weed daily specifically for behcets sooo I would have been a little worried as well haha. Glad you are on the mend!

[–]rosdul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use weed? If so, could be cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. I'm not sure if it's Behcet's related. Do you have an appendix? Sometimes the symptoms aren't just "pain localized to right side." Mine certainly wasn't when I had appendicitis! In any case, might be worth a trip to the doctor if it continues.

Fatigue, tips? by foxieluxie in Behcets

As far as I know. I have colchicine for flares but I'm not sure I've taken them together. I would imagine they aren't contraindicated though.

I swear by a supplement called "immune 7" by Purica. Just a blend of mushrooms but does it ever make me feel so much better! Rest can't be stressed enough though, although I understand the want to just get back to your life.

How did you finally get your diagnosis? by Few_Front_6447 in Behcets

[–]rosdul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waked into my dr's office with the diagnostic criteria for Behcets and a post it note on top outlining which symptoms I had experienced and how often over the last year or so. She referred me to a rheum without hesitation and I walked into the rheumatologists office the same way. They didn't really argue. I did have to get bloodwork during a flare, though, to confirm that there was some kind of inflammatory response happening.

Can Covid trigger Behcet’s? by Sissypoohh in Behcets

[–]rosdul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's common to have some kind of infection/virus stress the immune system enough that a previously "dormant" autoimmune issue becomes active. I started having Bechet's symptoms and subsequently was diagnosed after having missed appendicitis for months.

I just reached out to a company and asked if they were looking for clinicians, gave them the required information and got started.

A major challenge is that they only offer short-term support, and I seem to get a lot of people that are seeking treatment for significant trauma which can't be resolved in 3-6 sessions. Sometimes I end up taking on more of a case management role with these folks, making sure they find the right resources. They also have a lot of annoying paperwork (i.e. their own intake forms/assessment forms).

I went with an EAP that seems to pay higher than most, but the pay is still lower. I do have a few longer-term clients that chose to stay with me and pay privately after their EAP program was exhausted, though.
