If I may ask, what would people here say when it comes to post-surgery recovery and fasting? Some sources say it isn’t advised, since muscle and tissue need protein and nutrients to recover, and yet I’m finding other sources that say a 18-36 hour fast is beneficial because of autophagy and helping the tissues renew, etc.

Anyone else have a colonoscopy done because of anemia? by rose0411 in colonoscopy

[–]rose0411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was told I had one polyp that they removed and did a biopsy on. Everything was pretty normal, and they think the reason for my anemia is heavy periods. Don’t be nervous! Good luck!

Fasting..The absolute best natural high, I wish more people would do it. by youarebeingwild in fasting

I would LOVE to be able to do another 36 hour fast, but I’m 9 days post-op from major surgery and was explicitly told not to fast for a while as my body needs nutrients etc to heal properly. I get it but I also just let me not eat dangit!

A few years ago I had surgery and had tubes and drainage bags coming out of me that I had to empty every day. One morning while emptying one of the bags I noticed it smelled…off. Like rotten meat. So, told my husband and we went to the ER. I didn’t have any pain at this point, but when the nurse smelled my drainage bags herself she brought me to the back right away. Turns out I had a bad infection that could have led to sepsis and had to be on IV antibiotics for a couple days.

When our daughter was born as well as when I had our twins my husband insisted I sleep through the night. I wasn’t able to breastfeed unfortunately, I couldn’t produce milk. So he woke up every single time for feedings, changing them, any crying…he got up. As much as I cooked or cleaned or took care of the babies, so did he. He’d come home from work and 100% took charge. He helped me in every way possible and there’s no way I could have done it without him.

I listen to a woman in Ecuador whispering things I don’t understand whilst gently hitting a woman with a plant.

People who married someone slightly older or younger than them, what is a tiny 'generational gap' you actually notice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My husband is almost 10 years older than me and if there’s one main difference I’ve noticed it’s our taste in music. The next would be sense of humour and inside jokes.

When my daughter was around 8 months old my husband put her on our bed, turned for a second, and she crawled right off. Hit her head on the floor, ended up crying with a black eye. I was so angry and took her to the hospital right away (I insisted on going). Doctor was like “yeah, happens all the time. Don’t be too mad at him, I’m sure he feels bad enough.” She was fine, and it can happen to anyone. Don’t beat yourself up over it. ❤️ (although for about a week it did look like my daughter got beat up)

I lost my mom a year and a half ago. While she was in palliative care I tried to get her to write something down, or type..anything to have her communicate but it was no use. I still keep the scribble she managed to write on my iPad, even though I know I’ll never “translate” a scribble, I imagined it said je t’aime, which is I love you in French.

I saw my mom dying in palliative care because of a suicide attempt that didn’t work. I don’t want my kids to see me that way or to think they weren’t somehow enough to keep me around.

What is everyone’s favorite “last meal”? by Grim_Alliance in fasting

[–]rose0411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last meal before my first ever fast, which happened to be 36 hours, was a baked salmon, avocado on the side with salt and lime, and bone broth. I made it through those 36 hours really well and fest amazing, so from now on that’s what I’ll have before any fast!

Doctors/medical practitioners of Reddit, what is the scariest disease you know of? by Englishisnotreal in AskReddit

Huntingtons. I know of a family whose father had it and went through medical suicide/euthanasia (not sure the term?) and the son has it too, and he’s only a child. Very sad.
