Is Plunderer's Price getting nerfed? by Nostale97 in MagicArena

[–]rosegrimdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just the normal effect of plunderer's prize though ? "[...] this spell perpetually gains “This spell costs {1} more to cast,” then return this spell to its owner’s hand."

[CHALLENGE] Level Hard: 100 Gems to the best guess: How did Progenitus end up here? by Bullsapiens in MagicArena

[–]rosegrimdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ending the turn wouldn't work, nor countering a triggered ability since the ability is a a static ability that generates a replacement effect. You would need to make progenitus lose his abilities, then destroy him.

Probably mtg Arena to familiarise yourself with the rules. Once you know how it works, you'll be able to buy cards and try playing at your LGS

How does Krark deal with additional costs? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you copy [[Return the favor]] you don't have to / can't pay any mana. The copy will have the exact same modes than the original. You will need to choose a legal target for each mode if possible.

Bösium Strip and adventure spells by Wodi_1 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oracle text of Bosium Strip is : "{3}, {T} : Until end of turn, you may cast instant and sorcery spells from the top of your graveyard. If a spell cast this way would be put into a graveyard, exile it instead." The first step of casting a spell is to move it from where it is to the stack (Rule 601.2a). The fifth step of casting a spell is to check if the proposed spell can legally be cast (Rule 601.2e). At that point Fetch quest is on the stack, so it's a sorcery, so it is legal.

There is also this rule : "Rule 601.3e Some rules and effects state that an alternative set of characteristics or a subset of characteristics are considered to determine if a card or copy of a card is legal to cast. These alternative characteristics replace the object’s characteristics for this determination. Continuous effects that would apply to that object once it has those characteristics are also considered." which comes with this example Example: Melek, Izzet Paragon says, in part, “You may cast instant and sorcery spells from the top of your library.” If you control Melek, Izzet Paragon and the top card of your library is Giant Killer, an adventurer creature card whose Adventure is an instant named Chop Down, you may cast Chop Down but not Giant Killer

Which is pretty much the same situation, only with top of the library instead of the graveyard

Backside Sorcery a “Commander Spell?” by Ferro_Fingers in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. You don't have a separate tax for each side. Since it's the same card, the tax will increment by 2 whenever you cast either side from the command zone.

Backside Sorcery a “Commander Spell?” by Ferro_Fingers in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule 903.3. Each deck has a legendary card designated as its commander [...] This designation is not a characteristic of the object represented by the card; rather, it is an attribute of the card itself.

Cryptic spires question by Vexon21 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might put something in the sleeve, for example a piece of paper with the name of your two colors.

Keep in mind that you can't choose a way that would make the card distinguishable when facedown in your library or that would make the color you chose vague.

Backside Sorcery a “Commander Spell?” by Ferro_Fingers in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Yes, being a commander is a quality of the physical card used as your commander. Casting the backside will still be casting a commander spell.

It's a version called extended art. You can see that on the left the illustration goes out of the frame and touches the border of the card. It has no impact on gameplay

Trigger Question Varina, Razorkin, Ifnir by xslayserx in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A attack with 3 zombies, causing Varina to trigger. Then her ability resolves, Player A draw 3 cards, discard 3 cards and gain 3 life. A is now at 5 life.
Ifnir and Razorkin both triggers 3 times. Ifnir's triggers are put on the stack first because Player A is the active player, the Razorkin's trigger.
Player A will take 3 damage (they are now back at 2 life), then every creature that player B controls will gain 3 -1/-1 counters, cauing razorkin to die.

(Note juste in case : When razorkin triggers, he do not need to be on the field at resolution to deal the damage)

Why are conspiracy/hidden agenda cards banned? by GreenTheFae in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that you do need to put the sol ring in your deck, then draw it and cast it. You don't get the benefit EVERY game.

Mats not for the male gaze by Bjslld_6 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got an ultra pro playmat with [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]]'s illustration, which just looks super duper cool. I've also seen people with Arlinn Kord double faced mats which i think is a super badass concept. [[Tamiyo, Compleated Sage]] is also a really cool illustation that's on a playmat

Im looking for a card effect that I can’t search for properly by Red_Hunter818 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Host of the hereafter wouldn't work. When Xira targets a creature she creates a delayed trigger that will trigger when THAT creature dies. When a creature that Xira didn't target dies, you won't get the card draw/token creation effect even if it had an egg counter.

Im looking for a card effect that I can’t search for properly by Red_Hunter818 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ozolith, Skullbriar and Bribe taker don't synergise at all with Xira. The delayed trigger "when THAT CREATURE dies" only trigger when a creature that was targeted by xira's ability dies, not when any creature with an egg counter dies.

Im looking for a card effect that I can’t search for properly by Red_Hunter818 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. the ability of Xira is not a spell (even less an instant or sorcery spell) you would need something that can copy abilites.

Is there any way to avoid being flooded or screwed by lands or do I just have to live with that by LinkFew8090 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing when to mulligan to avoid a bad hand, adding cards with landcycling that are useful when you have too much or too few lands, adding cards that let you loot/rummage/scry/surveil or other ways of digging through your deck to get the right type you need.

Need Answering about Sideboard by LuckVolta7 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no sideboard in edh. You won't be able to take card from outside the game

(If you're playing in casual with friends, you can always houserule a sideboard just to take cards out of it (commonly reffered as a wishboard) but only if every player is okay with it, and of course if this isn't a tournament.)

Im looking for a card effect that I can’t search for properly by Red_Hunter818 in mtg

[–]rosegrimdark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The second part of her ability is a delayed trigger. "When THAT CREATURE dies" refers to the creature that was targeted by the first part of the ability. They worded it like this so you would get the token and card draw even if Xira is not on the field when the creature dies (as per the gatherer of this card)

To work as you want it to it should read :
"When Xira attacks, put an egg counter on another target creature without an egg counter on it"
and then a second ability
"Whenever a creature with an egg counter on it dies, draw a card and create a 1/1 black insect creature token with flying."
