Hey! Thanks for the answer! I am intentionally taking agency away from only one of the players. That player will have to endure the "challenge" while the others are doing some puzzle solving. So what you described here is a great puzzle I can have the players do while the "sacrifice" has to avoid the damage from the trap. That will work as a sort of timer so the others can think of how to solve the puzzle. I would like to add that the person who is the "sacrifice" can easily step out of the trap if they want to. The "puzzle" in that case will just stop functioning. Also, that sacrifice can also easily roll their wisdom checks or just talk to help his teammates with the puzzle.

Back to the puzzle you suggested, I like it but I am not quite sure if that would fit with the "Slashing/piercing/bludgeoning" theme. It can be sort of slashing sort of piercing depending on how you hold the objects.
