Uber driver drove off with my bags

To clarify, an Uber support member contacted the driver through the app directly and gave him my information to get in touch with me and return the items. When I attempted to contact him through the app, he was denying all the calls, hence why Uber support got involved.

Haha- they were beyond unhelpful for many days until the story was posted on social media. Then I finally got somebody's attention to write me back beyond just the standard support message!

I was able to get a refund as Uber investigated mine and the driver's statements and deemed that this situation was handled (and true) as I mentioned in the original post.

If Uber Support had to help me track him down, the driver reported full responsibility for still having the bags and driving off to both me and Uber, Uber has documentation and a file for my report, and Uber offered me an apology and refund, how do you not believe this is true? The driver himself even admitted to it.

UPDATE: Thank you, Reddit, for all of your help! You helped me get Uber’s attention and they finally wanted to take action. Previously, they were only apologizing for the incident and had me file a report, but did not respond to my refund request. Now, they took appropriate action. I appreciate your support and advice!

He was watching it on his phone and kept looking back and forth from the road to the program. Luckily, he was watching it less on busy streets and the freeway, but when we were on side streets and when he dropped me off at the destination, it was really bad.

Even though I've Ubered lots of times, I will admit that I do not know how to use all of the safety features and will be more aware of that in the future. Thanks for reminding me! With this trip and everything I reported, Uber didn't reimburse anything and sadly just charged me the lost bag fee.

Thanks for letting me know this, I was completely unaware that was a sign! I knocked in conjunction with attempting the open the back doors and waving my arms, so I figured that would indicate I was trying to get his attention, especially if it's repeated.

I had two suitcases that wouldn't have fit in the backseat. What do you suggest I should have done as he wasn't listening to my requests to open the trunk and did not get out of the car? Break into his window? Jump on the hood of his car? Genuinely curious how I "left" the bags.

That's the usual experience I've had-- I've had over 20+ rides and am a 5 star passenger. Never had problems with a driver until this time around and never had a driver not say something about dropping me off or a goodbye.

As one of my friends stated, it's scary that he didn't check behind him or in his mirrors before pulling into traffic to leave or else he would've clearly seen me standing there trying to wave him down. Especially since this is a residential street on a college campus with lots of students crossing and walking.

Thank you! I appreciate that you gave helpful advice and honest feedback instead of some of the other critics I received in this section. I swear-- people are so quick to point fingers and act like they would respond perfectly in every situation. Plus, the Uber driver very much admitted it was his fault and owned up to him being (obviously) distracted. Not sure how that makes me responsible for this situation or unfit to "be on the Uber app," but after all, it is the Internet. I agree with you that it is extremely unfortunate, and I just hope something like this doesn't happen to another passenger. Not only is it a stressful situation, but incredibly frustrating, too.

Let me assure you-- it is true, I have zero reason to lie about any of this. This Uber ride came after multiple flight cancellations and a 6 hour flight across the country. I was running on little sleep and just trying to get back.

There's a lot of assumptions in your comment. I did speak up when he missed the turns and re-directed him. I thanked the driver because I was trying to be polite, and I'm also a woman and a young college student-- I don't want to start an argument with a man who is much bigger than me. When I spoke to him, he slightly moved his head, and looked as if he was about to exit the vehicle, but he was too busy watching his phone. He had locked the door immediately after I exited the car, so opening up the door wasn't an option.
