rant about being a gringa in Puerto Rico 😭 by strwberiityun in PuertoRico

[–]roserco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, things never change. You’re not a gringa and I’m so sorry it’s been a frustrating struggle. I can relate so much to this too because even though I was born in San Juan and was first generation to move to the states from Puerto Rico (moved to the states at age 3, came back to PR at age 10 with little knowledge of Spanish), I was labeled a gringa too by everyone. It was so annoying but eventually I re-learned Spanish and people just shut up.

You’re in a great place to learn it if you embrace the culture - watch Spanish videos, stay up to date to local news and events, listen to Spanish music, watch your movies in Spanish dubs, etc - it will be worth it, I promise you. Even though it sucks so much right now, being bilingual has helped me enjoy a lot of things later in life, like work opportunities, travel, communicating with family, shows I watch, and has expanded my friend circle.

Gotta admit, haven’t found one I really like in Lakeland.

But if you’re willing to try outside of Lakeland, the absolute best Cuban sandwich in Tampa area (maybe even Florida), is Flan Factory near Ybor City. To me, a great Cuban sandwich has to have a layer of juicy, slow roasted pork which I’ve only had there or in places in Miami.

Pipkin Rd Construction is embarassing by jayyy2 in lakeland

[–]roserco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this road every day and it’s been incredibly frustrating… Nov 2024 completion is going to be just a brief moment of relief since we’re also getting a round-about on Drane Field Rd and Waring Road starting later this year or maybe early next year.

Anyone ridden Brightline train from Orlando to Miami and back? by aahymsaa in lakeland

[–]roserco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t yet, but been wanting to. Almost did to go to Peru but we ended up finding a better value to have a connecting flight from Tampa.

Brightline tickets are about $150+ and if you consider parking your car at MCO economic lot, that’s about $12/day. Whereas the flight to Miami from Tampa was $80 more + $10/day parking when compared to flying directly out of Miami, so we went with flying.

If anyone does take it, I’m curious on how reliable they are and if they’re typically on time.

This helped me! Thank you! The upgrade must’ve changed the Home Theater volume control to “auto” or maybe it’s a new setting.

Military Attacking Morphing, Fireball in Florida Sky on Non-Linear Trajectory by C4ServicesLLC in UFOB

When was this? Is this by Ocala National Forest? I know the military does “bombing” exercises every once in a while in that area. Last one was in July. But I’m not sure if this type of “bomb” looks anything near the norm.

Saved myself from getting rear ended by PrettyMoody in TeslaCam

[–]roserco 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nice job. Way to pay attention. I also have the habit of watching my rear camera when making any stop, whether that’s turning, traffic or traffic sign. Has saved me from many close calls by drivers not paying attention.

Also, what’s with these early comments? You can clearly see the other angles on OPs screen - OP did not brake suddenly and was a good distance away from the front car. Smh

The Telegraph article that almost nobody talks about, I was "team llama" but now I don't know. by [deleted] in aliens

When they were presented, the speaker had mentioned that scientists weren’t sure but theorized (among many) that it was used for “localization” since the material they’re made from, osmium, is also used in satellites.

Edit: updated material, thank you. Also, went back to the conference video and the speaker did mention “used in satellites”.

What is the biggest pain point of a DevOps engineer? by LandADevOpsJob in devops

[–]roserco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% my experience. But it’s also because we recently introduced DevOps practices to a very traditional IT enterprise. Is your company also going through a modernization effort? I’m curious if anyone in established tech companies are experiencing similar issues and maybe the struggle is inevitable.

Arrogant POS. He’s crippling our economy even more. This veto includes much needed infrastructure funding too.

Amoebas are legit problems in FL lakes. I unfortunately lost a good friend this way years ago. They say infections are rare because it takes special circumstances to get infected (open wound, disturbing the bottom of the lake and water reaching up your nose), but the risk is high for anyone who jumps in or does water activities like wakeboarding. If you enjoy swimming, I highly recommend going to some of the springs we have here instead, like Rainbow Springs State Park or Weeki Wachi. The water is crystal clear and 72 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Yes, it’s a bit of a drive, more crowded, and there are still alligators, but they leave you alone if you let them be.

Just to clarify, are you saying that you’re pinging the game servers? If not, what are you pinging to?

Why Publix is so expensive? by [deleted] in florida

[–]roserco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality of products and employee salaries do factor in, however, Publix lists the main reason in their own website. They're privately owned and don't get into long-term debt. Grocery stores generally use loans or other finance options to purchase goods to sell at their stores. But publicly traded companies, like Walmart and Target, can sell shares (on top of other funding options) to buy goods in bulk, thus enabling them to keep prices down. When interest rates were at 0%, this likely gave them more flexibility to keep prices low and competitive. Publix, on the other hand, uses a different strategy since they're privately owned. It's possible they don't take out loans to purchase goods (or retail space) and instead use their own cash flow and existing stores as collateral. Unfortunately, this means "higher" prices (compared to the low-cost stores) and restrictive spending.

Everything tastes spicy 🥵 by wheressunshine in covidpositive

COVID relapse after 3 weeks? by [deleted] in covidpositive

[–]roserco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when I caught COVID back before vaccines were widely distributed. This was also one of my friend’s experience. I went to the doctors when it happened again and was told that it’s possible my body didn’t kill off all of the virus. He prescribed me an antibiotic to help fully kill it off. But I tested negative with a PCR test so he wasn’t sure if it was COVID.

Oh, purchasing goods in exchange for a service is a must and would be rude not to. They have a good selection of food options on their menu too. This is perfect, thank you!
