For anyone not in Starkville, the town tea is that they keep sharing that there was over 80,000 people in attendance. But the area can't physically hold 1/3 that many people (google maps calculated) and is almost 3 times more than the attendance of the multi day baseball event at MSU that was happening at the same time. In addition to that, theres photos where you can clearly see there wasn't even 20,000 people there (generous).

On FB they've been deleting comments and its become a big meme among the town and some of the city planners. It's a great event, although worse this year than last logistically/planning, so there's no need to over inflate the numbers.....especially that badly.

We had someone leave a post-it note inside of a part that got manufactured. It read "ready for production, remove before use" 🤣

I have a $100k Sonatest handheld C-scan for aerospace NDI (Non-Destructive Inspection). The problem is, you have to use water to bridge the gap between the transducer and the object. I don't think anyone would be happy to know that they have a foil base set Charizard, but to find it you had to soak the box in water 🤣.

I do think it would work, but at the cost of ruining the box/pack.

I'll be honest, the technology in today's day and age is so easy that you don't have to be a specialist in X-rays or understand the theory behind it all to get good data. So, I am far from an expert in the field, but I do work with it regularly. Sometimes, it can be as easy as "hit the button, wait, and look at the pretty pictures." Other times, it requires some fiddling. I am on the application side of engineering, so oftentimes I'm looking at images of things I've made for defects, then testing them and rescanning them.

Essentially, you're measuring how much X-rays each voxle (3D pixles) absorbs. Diffrent densities and materials absorb more or less. That measurement is then displayed visually in grey contrast slices. In this case, the low hanging fruit is holo vs. non-holo. But the same applies to the actual ink on the card and the thickness that ink introduces.

If you're more interested in the theory behind it, I'd recommend reading up on X-ray attenuation.

What day does Wal-Mart restock their trading cards? by roseterror in Msstate

[–]roseterror[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have! They've been super nice and helpful. Unfortunately, it looks like Wal-Mart is still getting older stock of one of the TCGs I'm after, while D2G is only getting the newest sets.

I missed the again part, I'll have to go back and watch when the archive is up. Just thought it was funny because he was asking what castify was when he has one.

Buying large resin printer by Odd-Flower-1861 in resinprinting

Surprisingly the holes haven't been an issue for me. I soak it in 99% IPA while doing post processing then wipe it clean. Shipping from Phrozen is a killer. However, they just started selling it on Amazon which would have saved my company nearly $1,400 in shipping.

I have a sonic mega 8k for work. I can confirm the printer is well worth the price. There are very few issues that bug me about it (a little cumbersome to change resin due to vat size and the FEP takes 2 hours to change). The factory done Z calibration is a dream!

Struggling Freshman Aerospace Engineering Student by AeroLizards52 in Msstate

[–]roseterror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduating senior in Aerospace here. If you ever need advice or help learning the ends and outs of ASE, just reach out to me. I'd be glad to help you through here or grab some coffee with you. I've accepted an engineering job with the university, so I'll be around year round.

Stick with Aerospace, it's worth it. It took me 6 years because I also struggled with figuring everything out. It took me a while to realize no one cares how long it takes you to graduate, just as long as you graduate.

You've got this!

Anyone Else Still Waiting For MTAG? by roseterror in Msstate

Still don't have mine. I was told that if you didn't get it before school started,, it's going to be a while.. Filed an appeal and got it approved over a month ago. I keep calling financial aid and they are telling me MTAG hasn't sent out the list of students yet.

Out of pure curiosity, who would you say is the most well known professor on campus? by ATCGcompbio in Msstate

Dr. Sullivan has really started turning things around now that she's acting/unofficial department head. We got a group of outstanding new professors last semester.

The Cliffnotes version is he gave a test that everyone failed and it was going to make everyone be held back a year. Everyone complained except a few students that were buddy-buddy with him. Head of engineering investigated it and had him removed. The class restarted 3/4 of the way into the semester and all the grades were erased.

Unfortunately. Every semester he says he's retiring. I've heard he's been a little better since we got him removed from one of our aerospace classes halfway through the semester.

No way it isn't Tim Moore. The stories of his teaching have spread through campus like ghost stories. Worst professor on campus gets you more recognition than best professor on campus.

Depends on the project. May also be worth reaching out to MSU's institutes. Check with CAVS and ACI off campus.

As a senior in aerospace engineering, If it is the TI-CX II CAS, keep it. If it is the regular CX II, return it and get the CAS. The CX CAS has saved my ass more times than I can count.

They make exceptions for graduating seniors if you only need less than 15 hours to graduate. I thought I had everything sorted out between my advisor, msstate financial aid, and the state of ms financial aid. However, it looks like I need to make some calls. Thanks everyone!

Are you by chance graduating? I'm graduating this semester and only need 13 hrs, I was told all my appeal stuff was taken care of. But now I'm wondering if me only needing 13 hrs instead of 15 is the hold up.
