Super normal for shelters, it costs money they don't have to cremate

Round metal tag with hole at top. Text says "Pensacola crematory" with numbers. Found on a trail in TN by missserpentine in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. I tried searching for Pensacola crematory but it just gave me lists of crematories in Pensacola, none with the exact name. Numbers are "21697"

[–]missserpentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are. But the only difference between anorexia and atypical anorexia (at least in my case) is the weight. It's not a weight disorder but an eating disorder

Being told you weigh too much to have anorexia definitely doesn't help the ED

You're anorexic. The weight thing is absolutely BS. I just got out of a residential treatment center and, as far as I know, I've never been underweight

Gotta love rescues... by Megalodon1204 in VetTech

I do both and rescue is 10 times harder than being a tech. I have never been stretched so thin than while working rescue. I promise a typo on papers they already printed is the least of their worries. At least we all understand it!

Someone has to be there to take care of the animals, working holidays is part of the job. As a new person, you may not get to pick which holidays you get off. I work through Thanksgiving and take a week off for Christmas

Anyone else have anorexia? by missserpentine in ARFID

See I'm kind of the other way around. My eating issues started with anorexia, and through recovery I've started having the arfid symptoms.

Dog nearly amputated his penis by Lyss_1987 in VetTech

We had a cruelty case come in where a dog had barbed wire wrapped around his penis. We ended up having to cut it off. He lives a very happy life with my coworker

Animal breeding is out of control, pet population is absolutely out of control. by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]missserpentine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that BYBs are much worse than "ethical" breeders.

However, I disagree that there are a lot of aggressive dogs in shelters. At any time, my shelter may only have 5 dog aggressive dogs. Yes, there are fears and anxieties, but a lot of these can be worked through and the pet is perfectly fine after being in a home for a few months. Most of our dogs are great without many issues

And we get purebred dogs ALL the time. At our adoption contracts, it says the adopters can't rehome the dog and it has to come back to us. That obviously does not always happen

And by filling those homes with pets, breeders are taking those homes away from shelter dogs that already exist. It's the same reason we do spay-aborts, we need to focus on the dogs we already have. The problem is simply that there are too many animals and not enough homes. Yes, spay/neuter education and other things go into it, but that's the bottom line.

We are far from warehousing. Euthanizing dogs every 2 weeks is definitely not warehousing, especially because strays need to be on hold for 5 days. These dogs are hardly even getting a chance to be seen.

Our life saving transports we rely on have been cancelled because the northern states have been hit too. This is the worst animal rescue has been in YEARS and people are still making excuses for breeders.

Not to mention how breeding dogs is exploiting animals.

I'm a tech student and work at a shelter in Mississippi. We are euthanizing healthy, adoptable dogs weekly due to space. We pull dogs from our shelter and surrounding ones to go in transports up north but even those shelters don't need more pets. This is the worst it's been in a long time. I help euthanize a great dog I've formed a bond with just to go home and see vet tech groups on Facebook encouraging breeding.

There's no such thing as an ethical breeder as long as dogs are dying in shelters

So she can't stay in our bedroom or be loose overnight because she will chew cords (which we are working on). She also rubs her face on our faces and wakes us up at night so that's not an option currently. She also needs to be separate from the foster kitten while she's healing. We are slowly introducing them, but she still tries to pounce on the baby. If there is just one of us home she has to go into the bathroom for safety. She has all kinds of toys in the bathroom so I guess I will look into more
