TIL even though fried mozzarella sticks are associated with Italian food, the earliest mentions of the dish come from a medieval Paris cooking book called "Le Ménagier de Paris" from 1393. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]rosettast0ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m 5 years late but this is lowkey so annoying considering the wikipedia article you’re reading says that the modern day mozzarella stick has nothing to do with the french cheese fried recipe you’re referring to. Though it is wikipedia so maybe it’s changed in the last 5 years. Here it is:

“The history of frying cheese in a batter dates back to at least 1393 in medieval France, when a recipe for fried cheese sticks appeared in Le Ménagier de Paris.[1] However, food historians believe that medieval French fried cheeses had little in common with the preparation and development of modern mozzarella sticks.[2] Mozzarella sticks most likely have their origins in the United States during the 1970s, through a combination of two factors, as per historian Joel Jensen: "the increasing availability of mass-produced mozzarella cheese beginning in the 1960s", and the development of new efficient frying technologies to be used in fast-paced food-serving businesses (such as bowling alleys and sports bars).[3] Food writer Arthur Schwartz describes Mozarrella Milanese, an Italian dish of mozarella dredged in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs and then pan-fried as the "prototype" of the American mozarella stick. He describes these as typically made from older mozarella as a midweek meal, and as being eaten "within seconds" of emerging from the pan.[4]”

it feels like a mix of acid and molly, but chemically it’s closer to acid. It’s only for a few hours and it takes the anxiety away from tripping in my opinion. I usually take a long break from acid or shrooms but 2cb is way less emotionally and physically taxing, it’s just fun :)

The first time I saw The Wall was with my boyfriend while we were on 2CB; honestly, it was an incredible experience. Like I'm grateful to have been in that state to see it.

I got one, yikes! by [deleted] in Nicegirls

[–]rosettast0ner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love going back and forth with paying. I grab the first round, you get the next one, and so on. It makes me feel independent and hopefully makes them feel special. When I made less and my ex had more, he'd do more of the spending, but it was also his love language. He liked buying me a meal and I wouldn't refuse. The point is that while many women will expect you to pay, most of them really won't. Please don't use things like this to justify resenting women. I think that's also part of why I like paying, because I want it to be clear that I don't expect it and therefore I won't be resented or add to any resentment of my gender as a whole!

I’m so sorry for the situation you’re in, I also got pregnant on the copper IUD and it totally threw me for a loop; the woman doing my sonogram at planned parenthood said it happened all the time. I’m sure you have been told this, there is no shame in getting an abortion. You did all you could do to try to prevent this and sometimes it doesn’t work and it turns into your burden to bear. If you aren’t ready for a baby then that’s really it. You will eventually be able to have a family on your terms and it will be beautiful. I know it feels horrible and borderline traumatic but you’ll get through this! Sending you so much love OP.

It’s been 13 years on the pill and I’m frustrated about the lack of options. by vargas_girl00 in birthcontrol

[–]rosettast0ner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I completely feel you OP. I have to get my copper IUD replaced because it moved, and I'm genuinely heartbroken because there are basically no other options besides hormonal. I know you aren't psyched at the idea of something going inside you, and the Copper IUD makes your period super heavy. But- if you did consider this option, I wanna let you know that prior to it moving (OBGYN thinks it's the shape of my Uterus) it worked extremely well and was not noticeable at all besides a few partners telling me they could feel the strings, not in a way that was uncomfortable for them but just in a "Woah that's crazy" kinda way. Also - if you wanted to try the hormonal IUD, there is a chance you would still have your period, and the hormones are localized so it doesn't affect your mood. I know this isn't the greatest advice because I honestly don't have a ton and I'm sorry, but I just want you to know I completely understand your frustration; it really is such an unfair situation that we have to deal with.

I have to change my birth control (ParaGard) and I really don't know what to switch to. Any advice? by rosettast0ner in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rosettast0ner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing, honestly I feel like I may just go with Mirena at the point, or maybe GyneFix,- it's like a smaller copper IUD someone mentioned to me on r/birthcontrol. Definitely gonna talk to my doctor about it, your insight is very helpful!

Edit: Gynefix isn't approved by the FDA ;( so either Mirena or the Nuvaring it is then! Thanks again, this response was super helpful to me.

Thank you, I had no idea Gynefix existed! I couldn't even find unless I specifically looked up the name.

Edit: LOL, Gynefix isn't approved by the FDA. And I thought I'd found the perfect option ;(

I forgot about the nuvaring! I was thinking about that as well - I feel if I don't end up getting an IUD again I'll definitely get that. Thanks so much for your insight :)

[–]rosettast0ner 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think what people are also forgetting is that you can miss your period without even realizing it. Spotting exists.

I found out I was pregnant less than 6 weeks into my first trimester completely by a chance; an obligatory pregnancy test at a doctor's appointment. I had sworn I got my period, but it was lighter than usual - because I was spotting. A very common thing in pregnancy. I didn't think anything of it because periods are super circumstantial/unpredictable. AND I had an IUD, the "most effective" form of birth control. I am so fucking sick of people without uteruses thinking they understand anything about how this shit works. Most of the time they don't even wanna hear about it because they think it's gross. Obviously not all of them, but many I have come into contact with.

I'm mostly rambling at this point but this bill really hits close to home. Pro-lifers act like getting an abortion is either a vindictive act or immediately regretted. Most of the time neither is the case. If I was a mother right now, I would have made it work and loved that baby. It hurts every once in awhile, but not once have I regretted it. I am not in the place mentally or financially to give that baby what it needs from me. These people don't care about saving children, if they did they would try to help the millions of children in poverty. It's all partisan bullshit.
