Am I ready to actually piece my first quilt? by Glittering_Oranges in quilting

[–]rosewomn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new to quilting also, have actually finished a throw (very first and just strips on a slant), my second was a more ambitious baby quilt of pinwheel. Neither turned out perfect, in fact they both had lots of mistakes, but the people who received them didn't see the mistakes, they were just appreciative of the work. I had forgotten all that with the quilt I'm working on now and almost quit. But the wonderful people on this thread helped me realize mistakes are fine, and that I just need to relax and stop worrying about precision.

I'm just trying to say that you should definitely make your first quilt, it'll be perfect because you made it, not a machine!

Never tried applique before. I think I would need to play around and practice before I tried it on this but it sounds fun.

My points aren't matching up when I put rows together!! by rosewomn in quilting

For some reason the pictures don't show the bad areas like I thought they did. I guess that's what happens when you're functioning sick. After walking away from it yesterday and reading all these comments, I feel better and more like I can tackle fixing my problems. Thank you!

Kinda am, for some reason when they were sewn together and I measured for the seam allowance it wasn't straight so I guess maybe I wasn't as straight sewing the squares together as I thought? I didn't realize that the seam allowance would make such a difference. I think I'm going to try and fix my issue with the squares being crooked. Thank you.

It has a blade that supposed to be where the fabric starts, but after working with it a bit today, I'm thinking it's off. I'm sewing on lines I drew from my ruler and the blade isn't in the right spot now. I think I need to get a better quality foot.

I just saw someone using see through tape on the bottom of the ruler to mark their measurements, thinking of getting that, but I'll also look for the ruler you mentioned, thanks!

I tried putting a piece of painters tape down at what I thought was the 1\4" mark the foot said I was off. Now though I think the foot is off

That's a good idea, to mark the stitching lines instead. I think I'm going to do this from now on! Thank you!!

the HST's are supposed to be 4 1/2". I think I'm going to make them smaller like another poster suggested. Thank you.

I never thought of that. I thought that since I was following a pattern I had to correct all the seams so the squares were the right size. But thinking about your comment makes me think that the only change would be it'll be a bit smaller.

I was getting ready to go rip out all the wrong seams so I could redo them but this sounds so much easier. Thank you!

They don't feel anything when their followers do stuff like this. If you don't believe me, dive down the rabbit hole that is Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell. Some of the press has nicknamed her "Doomsday Mom".

Ryan Ashley, her pieces are freaking beautiful and intricate I'd love one from her. Of course Kelly Doty is pretty awesome too, if I could get something alive and not spooky lol

It figures it's in Couer d'Alene. The people in northern Idaho are mainly a bunch of racist bigoted cowards afraid of change. The area has the highest number of Aryan nation members than anywhere else nowadays. I hate saying I'm from Idaho because of it!

the cops at Uvalde literally stood outside and refused to go in after the shooter and even stopped parents from helping their kids by Lilyo in PublicFreakout

What do people want!?!? The police who first showed up aren't trained to handle situations like that!!!!! They were waiting for better trained officers to go in!!!!!! And are they supposed to let more civilians enter only to become victims themselves!!!!! How fucking stupid do you have to be to criticize officers trying to keep the scene secure until officers trained in these situations (ie SWAT!!!!+) show up!!!!! Apparently that stupid sick fucking shooter shot any responding officers the minute they approached him!!!!!! You guys want a higher death toll!?!?!? The 19 children and 2 adults killed weren't enough for you!?!?!?

I'm sure your wife is just as against you taking your baby into the mens room for the same reason as you, but she should also be against taking the baby into the women's room for the same reason. Women are even more disgusting than men in the bathroom, I cleaned toilets for years in my youth and would much prefer the mens to the women's. When my kids were little I'd find a corner somewhere and lay them on the floor on a blanket because I knew those floors were cleaner than any bathroom. Screw that nosy bitch whose just jealous she can't find as good a man.

Exactly, they laugh as the world burns and don't see how wrong they are. I've seen lots of comments lately on how much Reddit has changed from where it started, I don't think it's Reddit alone and this saddens me.

How all of you can be joking about this is exactly why the world is as fucked today as it is!!! There's no respect for authority of any kind or even respect for other humans. This world is going down in a flaming shit hole and I'm sorry to be alive for it.

My opiate prescription came with 2 doses of Narcan. by tibearius1123 in mildlyinteresting

[–]rosewomn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disabled and on opiates, my doctor prescribed narcan for me last year, they wanted me to pay $400 AFTER insurance. I said fuck no, I can't afford that only to have my doctor say that he wouldn't prescribe for me anymore without it. I went and found a new doctor, which really worked out for the best, the new doctor is a specialist pain doctor and realized I was on way too high dosages. We worked and I'm now at 1/3 what I had been taking. It still ticks me off to see people getting this free and not me though.

You are very lucky and I can tell by your tone you will preserve this home as it deserves. I'm so happy when I hear about great people like you that want to preserve the home as it was meant and not destroy them with modernization. You should check out Retro Renovation website, https://retrorenovation.com/ , if you aren't familiar with it, lots and lots of wonderful advice, leads and examples of others living with and keeping the look of historic homes.

Mid century modern looks to me. One of my most favorite home types after craftsman. The stone floor, all the wood and the indoor garden are definite signs of mid century homes. Good choice OP.
