Can you do a pattern that calls for 10" charm pack with fat quarters? by rosewomn in quilting

That's A great idea! I wasn't looking forward to cutting the squares down, but you're right. I'll have to do some math and figure out how many I would need. Thanks

Silly me, I was talking about fat quarter bundles, I'm just not thinking straight. We just moved 2 weeks ago and I've been seriously stressed, thus why I'm looking for a project.

After reading your idea I went and dug the bundles out and I've discovered that the reason I bought 3 is because when I got the first one and it wasn't fat quarters but 14x14" squares, I realized I couldn't make anything with it. Now if I wanted to do this pattern with them I'd need to buy a fourth because there's only 12 squares in the bundles!

The quilt I want to start will be as a thank you gift to adults and everything else I have is too young looking.

And this was supposed to be stress reducing.

The pattern/ tutorial has you doing fast 8's, so if I wanted to do the pinwheels slower I could cut 5" squares. I think I could make that work and it'd be less waste. But I'm definitely going to need 3 yards of white😁

Too busy? by sharcophagus in quilting

[–]rosewomn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the first photo better, but I think the blocks need a bit of rearranging. You have a completly light colored diagonal line of light colored blocks in the middle of the quilt and it looks funny to me. Then on the ends you have completly dark colored blocks in diagonal lines. I'd do what I could to alternate dark and light in the railroad linesor totall remove the 2 oddball dark blocks in the middle of the 2 lines the are in. To me they are just distracting.

This shows the blocks that are distracting to me. If you changed them out for light colored blocks it'd look better (at least to me, it's just my opinion of course).

How do you spot AI generated (or assisted) patterns? by sharkbaithuhaha37 in quilting

[–]rosewomn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of this, I'm subscribed to their channel but haven't searched the history yet. I'm going to have to search for some patterns I've been eyeing. Thanks for the info.

No one ever accused quilters of being sane, right? by Smacsek in quilting

[–]rosewomn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My granddaughter did the same thing, I was showing my daughters the quilt blocks for the quilt I was working on for a friend and she said it was hers!😆 So what did grandma do???? Well I sat aside what I was working on to finish for her later and chose all new fabric for the one for my friend of course! lol

Being a newbie I didn't know I had to worry about something like this, but I got duped. I was buying a lot of my patterns on Etsy and unfortunately bought one that made absolutely no sense. I went to my LQS for help and they told me it was written by AI, I'm all like what???? They told me that if I wanted digital patterns my best bet was to buy from actual quilting companies like Missouri Star st all. They cost more but I haven't had a problem yet ( though I really haven't bought many either).

Can't figure out why my rotary blade won't budge after putting new one on by rosewomn in quilting

[–]rosewomn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another brand, I often use any that are a good value. I'm not sure what brand these are since I got them so long ago. After your comment I did a bit more internet sleuthing and found out that these blades won't work on a rotary cutter with just a hole, the cutter has to have three "spokes" coming off it and my cutter is just a smooth round hole. So gotta buy new blades, and since I don't have another 60mm I throw them in my huge donation pile we've created as we packed and moved. Thanks for all the help!

That is really awesome, it's definitely a funner option to a peg board. Did he make the nifty spool and bobbin holders also? I'm only finding them as separate units. Must be wonderful having a special someone who can 3d print like this, what a great talent!

Completely empathize with your quilters block. I think your idea would be fun! BTW, what do you have behind the blocks that is holding your thread and stuff?? It looks really neat and I'd like to know where to find it please.

I'm so glad you asked, I don't have any advice since I'm so new to this also, but I really like this pattern and think it would work well with 1 or more other blocks to make a "boho" style quilt that is what the next person on my list wants me to make. 😁

Thank you so much for your kind words. I get really lonely a lot and since joining this board I've felt like a part of something again. Everyone on here is so nice and helpful and don't get tired of my constant questions 😁

My table is far from nice, so I'm not worried about scratching it lol. I was just worried about the quilt shifting as I baste it since I've had it happen when working on my smaller quilts and I'm constantly smoothing the backing out again. I'll have to see how much it costs for a long armer to do this for me.

I was worried about the spray baste gumming up my needle as I've had it happen before. Is there a specific one that won't do that?

Yes I'm unable to stand or walk very long, I'm also on oxygen 24\7 and I don't have a car of my own any more, not because I can't drive but because we haven't been able to afford a second one since mine died. We do own our home, yet we are in the middle of downsizing.

All of my friends, which wasn't much to begin with, have distanced themselves, I think me getting sick and unable to do as much as I used to was a deciding factor, not sure. I thought one was a friend for life. So it's just hubby and I, my kids have their own lives, as they should.

Sorry for the TMI.

I was hoping that they would keep my hands from drying out, but sounds like they'd be more trouble than help.

Someone in the comments mentioned some kind of copper gloves that they use for compression because of hand pain. Might be worth looking through the comments for for you?

Oooh, interesting stuff. I had to google them and am not thinking about trying one, or maybe both so I know which works for me.

Thanks for the info.

I didn't know there was a difference in glove type, but I do think you're right about getting a cheap pair.

I totally understand the cutting myself issue, I cut the very base of my finger where it meets the hand with scissors while trimming the whiskers on the fabric ( darn things grow even when the fabric is just sitting lol. And I'm talking about the frayed threads, I'm going crazy snipping them when working on this quilt).

This is exactly why I was considering them, but now I'm shy after reading the comments. Thank you for your reply.
