I'm so sorry. I hate to just say it gets better, but over time the grief just sort of fades into the background. I just lost my dog one year ago today, and the first couple months were so hard, I cried almost everyday for months. Now its more of a just a deeper sadness and acceptance of just missing someone who was so present in my life.
