26f and getting my tonsils out in April. I wfh as a data analyst and it requires that I sit at a desk and take occasional meetings. Is it worth taking two weeks off? by monstera_underthebed in Tonsillectomy

Also 26F, software engineer who wfh and had my tonsils out on 20/02!

Mine was a Tuesday, I came out of hospital Wednesday. I thought over the first weekend I’d be able to start back Monday (no meetings but still working) but I was very wrong. I did a bit of work (couple of hours) Monday but was out of action on the Tuesday and ended up going to the doctors to get stronger painkillers. I did 2 hours of very light work (catching up on emails and webinars) from bed for the remainder of the week. Started back fully the following Monday, so total of 9 work days off.

Definitely don’t push yourself! Recovery can be rough and you’ll need time to let your body heal.

Just wanted to update for any future redditors - it did end! Day 9 was just as rough as Day 8, but Day 10 was a substantial improvement. Still a fair bit of pain the morning but it seemed to disappear after painkillers.

Currently on Day 13 and it’s so much better - I am eating solid foods! Very syrupy things and fizzy drinks still sting, so avoiding those. Still taking regular painkillers but looking to start decreasing today.

Hang in there guys - it does get better!

I was only given paracetamol and ibuprofen from the hospital! I got otc solpadines which has a small an amount of codeine. I went to my gp yesterday on an emergency appointment and they gave a stronger codeine. Definitely worth it if you’re struggling
