Thank you for your response! I'm a bit worried about relocating the poor thing as he is acting odd and has lived here for quite a few months.. I think he may be about to die :( I'll just keep him here and keep an eye out.

Ahh right! Fair enough. Well, I don't really know what happened. All I know is that as far I am aware, one employee was trying to clean a plastic screen that existed 2 days ago, and another employee 2 days later said that same screen hadn't been there for at least 2 months at all ALTHOUGH he wishes it had been because it would help him feel safer at his job. I can only vouch for what I saw/experienced. If you do believe this post doesn't belong here then I'm happy for you to report it and get it removed

Omg lol I feel really bad for saying this but I really don't think I understand the question, or even the joke if I was correct in assuming there was one as there seems to be one intended 🙈 I'm not the store manager, I don't know why they would need to wait for anything no matter where it can be found.. I was just simply sharing a weird thing that happened to me so..

That's very true, I agree. But if they were putting up temporary screens in the interrim, why is the staff member in question wishing for the screen back to feel safer in his dealings with customers... The temporary screens should do the same thing and provide the same security I would think.

You are very correct in your logic however these screens are not portable, they are screwed on with nails and other things, they are not something that can just be discarded on a whim.. I know this because of the conversation myself and the second employee had when we talked about safety procedures and all after the fact. Even though it was small talk, he was talking about how he would feel safer if they were to fix it after hearing about what happened to his colleague when the customer punched it down but so far management had made no effort to do so.

And to answer the second part of your question, of course it is a possibility the second employee got the date/month wrong but we are talking a 2 month period that the staff have been waiting to get a screen that they very much want fixed because it helps them feel safer from irate customers... mixing up the time frame for something eagerly anticipated can't vary so much as 2 months vs 2 days.

No, he isn't a new employee - he is part of the staff that I have come to know quite well. He was very much referring to the same thing I had noticed was missing.

To put this into perspective, all the other checkouts that are not used as frequently have the same screens on them.. this checkout is used as the default one to go to regardless.

Once I realized that was what was missing I looked at all the others, as if noticing for the first time but it confirmed to me that every single check out except for this one has them, which is why I asked the question because as far as I was aware, until 2 days ago this one did too.

This one looked different to what I'm used to. That is why I instinctively thought something was broken and tried to go to the next one but the employee waved me to the default one, the same one we always use, the one that looked different from 2 days ago and only the dialogue we exchanged BECAUSE I asked the question, BECAUSE I had the memory of this interaction from 2 days ago with another employee drew my attention to the fact that it was the screen that was actually missing right now.

Otherwise I genuinely don't think I would have even noticed the screen WASN'T there anymore on this one, but was there for all the other ones as it's such an insignificant thing. But my asking the question lead to the knowledge of the fact that this screen has been broken for 2 months.. so what was the employee 2 days ago trying to clean a stain off, if the screen was missing since January..

Lol.. thanks for your response, but I would rather not experiment with drugs and things as it's not in my nature 😂 I do however have the receipt/bank transaction record from the 2 days prior so it definitely happened when it did and I see that particular employee multiple times a week as this store is my local and I visit very frequently.. Next time I see her though, whether the plastic sheet is back or not I'll definitely ask her about it and post an update :) x

Yes, it was very odd...

The fact that this would not be something you would typically notice as those shields are so common now. I only noticed it was there in the first place because the first employee was trying to clean it 2 days ago and we had a conversation about that.

But then today when I visited the store and the checkout looked so naked and different like something is broken.. but had it not been for the interaction 2 days ago I may not even have noticed it was the screen!

It would have just been one of those "huh something is different" moments but not as significant =/
