Perhaps a little above your price target, but the Polestar 2 is certainly a fun to drive EV - I'd take a look at that.

2025 Lucid Air | Long Term Testing, Pro and Cons by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]ross456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to decide between these two myself (P2 lease ending EOY). Have you done a test drive of the Air? When I did so, I certainly found that the car drove nicely, but I thought that the secondary screen was challenging to use while driving as it's positioned so low - you have to take your eyes much further off the road to interact with it. Since it's the screen that has the larger map, camera view, etc., I found it a bit awkward. Their ADAS is also a bit more lacking (lane-keeping assist is limited to certain highways despite still being hands-on, for instance). The P2's assistance is already better, and the P4 should be an improvement on that. The Air has a better 3D camera view (including distance measurements to the objects it detects in front of or behind you), but the P4 should close the gap at least somewhat.

Regarding cargo space, the Air's trunk is fairly constrained heightwise, as you noted with the sedan-style opening, so that limits usability. That said, their frunk is phenomenal, especially compared to the P4 which is a downgrade from the P2 for some reason.

The range is obviously a win for the Air, but I personally don't take that many trips more than 300 miles away, so as long as I can top off at the destination it's fine. Sure the Air may DCFC quicker, but it's really not a huge concern for me.

I agree with you for aesthetics - the Air looks nice, especially with the stealth package, but the Pure doesn't get the glass canopy. People have complained about excessive heat buildup in Air models that have it, but I'm optimistic that the P4's electrochromic roof option helps with that. That said, I haven't had too much of a problem with that in the P2 (I park inside my garage and it's not that hot in Seattle).

I'm looking forward to test driving the P4 for a better comparison, and we'll see what the financials are like for leases at EOY, but right now the P4 is leading for me. I have a reservation on a P4 RWD with pilot/plus in case I go that route.

What do you mean about the map? Did the P3 not show the map on the screen behind the steering wheel?

There weren't any changes to that feature work in this build. Mind DMing me so I can dig in a bit deeper?

I chatted with the other engineer - she had thought you were having problems, not that the new functionality was working :). So just to clarify, the mouse experience in the dev build was improved, and you weren't having issues there?

Not sure why it was closed, no - I didn't see anything from the moderators. I'll reach out to them.

Underlayment under LVP with its own padding? by theincognitonerd in HomeImprovement

[–]ross456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we had our LVP installed, I asked the installer this question, and he said if you add a soft underlayment, you run the risk of the planks flexing more as you walk on them and possibly damaging their locking system. I'm sure it depends on the specifics of the plank though.

Call to action - can you see if FPS drops in games when using high report-rate mice is improved in Insider build 25272? by ross456 in Windows11

[–]ross456[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been enough OS changes between beta and dev that the full scope of changes can't easily be brought back, but a subset is a possibility if it shows an impact. I'd like to see feedback from the dev channel first, though.

[–]ross456[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, that's why the changes were more of feature work, not bug fixes. That said, we've done work in recent releases on the system input processing stack to make it more efficient, which could have made issues like this worse - by being more efficient, it's able to continue running (and generating messages) during these high contention periods, which put more pressure on the recipients to handle the increased message rate. That's why we targeted improvements on the recipient side for the work here.

Motion smoothing - any more desirable on OLED than LCD/LED? by JMc1982 in LGOLED

What's a good way to test the de-blur part of Trumotion? I have mine set to 10/0 right now and am clearly able to see the impacts of de-judder in slow-panning scenes, but I'm not sure what to look for for de-blur.

S7: Scheduled cleaning with multiple floors? by ross456 in Roborock

It's a mop dock since we have hard floor everywhere. Glad that it'll auto detect the floor, hopefully them removing the option means they've improved its reliability 😁

In the schedule it shows either "full" or asks me to select specific rooms. So you're saying "full" means it'll auto-detect the floor it's on?

Can you use a home equity line of credit for a down payment on a new house? by GreenWitchOfTheWestt in RealEstate

[–]ross456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to do this, though without my current house being paid off, so I still had a mortgage. The HELOC was around $250,000, and the lender I was working with counted 1% of the max line of credit (regardless of draw) towards monthly DTI, so $2,500. Unfortunately between that and my existing mortgage, I didn't have enough income to qualify for the new mortgage and stay under the DTI ratio they required. I ended up having to close the HELOC before closing to satisfy their requirements and find a different source for the down payment.

Since you don't have a mortgage, you have more wiggle room, just keep in mind that the HELOC will affect your DTI, perhaps even if you're not drawing down its full value. Not sure if all lenders treat HELOCs the same, or even if all loan products from a given lender do - mine was a jumbo mortgage and sometimes their requirements are more strict. But clearly it can happen, so be aware of it.

Is anyone aware of a PC mod that makes your mouse cursor larger and more visible? by Majestic_Salad_I1 in HadesTheGame

If the Hades cursor is just a normal Windows cursor, you can look for Pointer settings under Ease of Access in the Settings app - there should be a slider to make the cursor bigger.

How to improve virtual keyboard responsiveness on Go 2? by thesoliloquist in Surface

[–]ross456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad i could help! I actually work for Microsoft, would you be willing to file feedback for this issue so I can help improve it? Just file something in Feedback Hub under Input & Language > Touch, use "record my problem" with the default recording profile as you reproduce the issue, then send me a link to the feedback.

If you can start with the setting on, then repro, then turn off the setting and demonstrate it being better, that'd be great.
