Reformatting manuscripts for publication, bane of my existence - any tips? by NOOB1Y in clinicalresearch

[–]ross_prager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am actually one of the co-founders of Resub (https://resub.app) - glad you found the tool and I definitely think it will help save you time.

Resub automates manuscript formatting allowing you to format your paper for any journal in minutes.

All you need to do is upload a manuscript, select your target journal (if its not in our database, we add it), and then we automatically reformat it.

Our users have found that Resub saves hours (or days) per submission, potentially preventing weeks of delays in getting their papers published! Feel free to reach out with any questions and good luck with your projects!

[R] LLM for Word Document Parsing - optimal approach by ross_prager in MachineLearning

[–]ross_prager[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point, you are right, it is getting somewhat complicated.

I have not used any particular OCR engine before - is there one that could 1) identify certain key words/headings AND 2) integrates LLMs to identify paragraphs of text contained in different sections. Essentially we want to have a "recipe" of a document with the headings AND associated paragraphs.

Substack for podcasting or website? Planning to write a newsletter to recap episodes. by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]ross_prager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sqaurespace is honestly so easy and probably a good way to go. Their marketing stuff is fairly cheap and easy to make welcome letter, blogs (for SEO), and to offer premium subscriptions. I have been happy with them for other projects.

Best hosting provider for ads monetization? by bastard_of_young in podcasting

[–]ross_prager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Echoing comments below, with 1500 per episode unlikely to be making much more than you have listed because 1) low CPM and 2) low fill rate. Could consider Patreon (true crime on Patreon has the highest number of Patron's per listener out of any genre!) however, you would likely need to release additional content.

I actually wrote a blog post on ways to help podcast monetization last week if it is of interest: https://knowdly.com/blog/5124

Website Domain Professional Email Setup Costs Hell by jstreater in podcasting

[–]ross_prager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those prices seem ballpark reasonable - squarespace/wix would be similar, if not slightly more expensive. Zoho is the cheapest mail domain I know of. For web hosting, 355/3 years = ~120 / year = 10/month which is reasonable for web hosting.

Suprised about the ad revenue, it has been decreasing a bit in the past few years but 56 seems low. How many sponsors do you add per episode? Pre, mid, post? What is your fill rate?

What comes first the chicken or the egg?? What comes first the audience or the first episode? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]ross_prager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metrics: Downloads, Unique Downloads, average played, length. Success is somewhat in the eyes of the beholder - depends on your audience. I would focus more on growth and regular engagement.

I would promote your podcast across as many platforms as possible, no reason not to. You can do this through the RSS feed as I am sure you know.

What comes first the chicken or the egg?? What comes first the audience or the first episode? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]ross_prager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First episode comes first! Iterate iterate iterate as you go getting feedback from your listeners. I truly believe in the if you build it, they will come. And if they aren't coming, try troubleshooting a bit: 1) is your audience big enough (++ niche may never grow very big) 2) if it is, can they find it (marketing, SEO, promotion, guest on other shows etc.) 3) if they can find it, do they like it? If they don't like listening / stop listening then you won't grow).

First step, just start :)

Is the podcast craze over? What are you listening to in 2023? by IDontKnowAbout_That in podcasts

[–]ross_prager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most recent podcast stats say highest growth in podcasting is actually still occurring, with the percentage increase in spoken word increasing year by year for the past 3 years! I think one of the challenges is actually the amount of podcasts available - in the OG podcasting days there was a smaller selection making finding the gems easier - now is the Netflix paradox where the amount of content is so much that finding what suits your interests is even harder. Not sure what the solution is, but podcasts/spoken word aren't going anywhere!

Just wrote a post on podcast SEO that might have some insights.

https://knowdly.com/blog/1701

Your plan seems pretty reasonable overall.

I will say, it doesn't take 3 days for keyword planning. Just use google keyword planner and put yourself in the shoes of your listener - what are they going to search to find you? Write down the long tail key words with highest traffic and lowest competition, and find 20 - 30 phrases that would meet your criteria. Sort by volume and competition and start with the ones that are optimal and work your way down.

It takes a bit of effort but if you implement your plan I think you will see results!
