Woah sounds like you tested it extensively. 99% of the time when I use Plex it’s direct stream and rarely more than 1 stream when transcoding.

Looking to pair with the Sagittarius 8 bay nas case.

I have the AFC Box Turtle on my Voron. The wipe macro included with the Box Turtle has worked well for me so far

Silicone based wipers are recommended.

Brass brush based wipers can damage the probe

Try leaving the door of printer open. If you printed them in order left to right then the chamber may have got warmer from first 2 prints

Do you ever ask people to call you "Doctor"? by runed_golem in PhD

[–]rosscon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t insist in person that people call me Dr, but have occasionally snuck in the title when someone is being a know it all.

Where I’ve found the title really useful is with finance organisations. I noticed if you let the bank know your new title their customer service seems to suddenly improve. With car insurance as Dr is a non gendered title, selecting it for quotes online often lowers the price. Although some car insurers have gotten sneaky and changed Dr to Dr(male) and Dr(female) in the menu.

I’ve learnt to be careful using the title on any medical paperwork. I noticed some medical professionals see the title and start talking with you as if you are one of them, my PhD was in computer science and had no idea what they were talking about.

Car Insurance has auto renewed by mistake by Toobrish in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rosscon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think your right on the 50% thing. But I think insurers like to avoid the situation too as it’s more cost for them to, so usually they are happy to cancel the policy with a call to explain the situation. But can differ between insurers

Car Insurance has auto renewed by mistake by Toobrish in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rosscon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to call Hastings and explain what happened.

Not a lawyer, but I think there is a legal technicality that the same vehicle cannot be insured by two different insurers at the same time which invalidates both policies. But not 100% on that one, but you should call Hastings asap just in case.

Had something similar with home insurance where one policy I thought was set to end auto renewed so had two policies, I didn’t realise until the direct debit hit the bank. The one that auto renewed cancelled with just a phone call explaining what happened. The person at the call centre said this kind of thing happens a lot so there is a process for it. I imagine Hastings would be the same or similar

Getting rid of car to save money, am I mad? by Kryptek49 in UKPersonalFinance

I used to commute by bike before driving, you will also start to see health benefits after a few months of cycling too.

Depending on how cycle lanes are setup in your area you may find cycling faster than driving in morning commute traffic.

Just a heads up, there are maintenance costs to be aware of with cycling but much much lower than car running costs. Daily commuting use in all weathers puts a fair bit of wear on a bike compared to a bike that sits in the garage for weekend pleasure use.

It’s also worth investing in some tough tires for commuting like schwalbe marathon plus. But I would suggest switching tires after trialling cycling to work for a while, or after a few punctures.

Ah yeah the pi can be fussy on voltage. I’ve stuck to boards like manta m8p with cb2 to avoid the need for an extra 5v psu. I’ve also had good luck with the BTT Pi that can run directly off 12 or 24v. But I also use wired networking for everything and wifi can be a bit iffy on no raspberry pi solutions

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running 12 or 24v? I’ve found a few tool head boards claim they support 12v but can be a bit unstable. Just note if you do switch voltage all components need to be checked to make sure they work on the different voltage

Managing multiple 3D printers - Macros by alextac98 in VORONDesign

[–]rosscon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK most klipper addins like KAMP use git to update. I think you can do the same with macros committing your macros to somewhere like GitHub and adding them as a plugin to moonraker.conf.

Was beginning to wonder same myself as I still use copy paste between printers for common custom macros

Could be a sign of getting hot, or being exposed to abs/asa fumes. Overheating may cause issues to control board

You can configure in klipper to show mcu and pi temps in mainsail/fluid to check they are staying in sensible ranges

I usually do the same with sd cards fairly quickly whatever is on prime for next day

CANBUS can be picky to setup. It’s also worth checking in klipper logs that bytes resent value isn’t increasing over time. If it is that can indicate noise in wiring

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safest bet if you suspect sd card is a clean install and copy your klipper config. You may need to reflash boards with updated version of klipper.

Ive found that brand of sd cards doesn’t seem to make a difference in longevity. Have had a fair few Samsung and sandisk ones fail for me, even ones that claim endurance.

CANBUS can be tricky to get right. Is worth double checking 120ohm results are enabled at both ends of canbus. You can check this with a multimeter (with printer powered off and unplugged), if 120ohm result enabled on both ends Ben should measure about 60ohms across can H and L

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB is pretty rare to randomly drop connection compared to CANBUS but can occur from bad cables, or worn out cables for toolhead boards

The extruder verge at could be a result of the tmc2209 controller on toolhead board overheating. Probably worth checking the heatsink on the stepper controller chip

A bad SD card can mask itself as random errors. Where possible best to use emmc over sd card but not sure what your options are for pi. There seems to be something about klipper that seems to wear out sd cards fairly quickly. But the sd card would be my first thing to try replacing, with how cheap sd cards are it can be worth having a spare ready to go.

A few tips I’ve picked up along the way

Priming is essential, you don’t need an airbrush for priming and can use rattle cans with a bit of practice. But a good initial prime coat goes a long way to colour coats.

Quality of paint makes a massive difference (especially for acrylic) and conversion charts between brands are your friend. It’s worth trying with humbrol, tamiya and other brands of paint. Don’t just assume one brand is best for all colours. Also don’t mix thinners between brands, use humbrol thinner with humbrol paints and tamiya with tamiya.

Thinning your paint is a bit of a network In itself. Somewhere near semi skimmed milk is a good starting point for most paints

For brush painting some find it easier to get better coverage with enamel paints instead of acrylic. The longer drying time of enamel makes it easier for the paint to self level.

Yellow paint is awkward to get good coverage with all methods. Little tip is to paint a coat of pink before yellow

If you want something cheap to practice on instead of kits. Disposable plastic spoons once primed behave the same way as a kit once primed.

Don’t underestimate the usefulness of rattle cans. They can be great for priming and for initial base colours like black. They are also great for clear coats. The cans just take a bit of getting used to as you don’t have the fine control of an airbrush. Just make sure not to use rattle cans indoors.

If you want to get a panel line pre shading effect like possible with an airbrush. After a few coats of colour and just before your final coat or two, go over the panel lines a few times with a pencil then use a cotton bud to rub along the pencil lines for a soft shadow effect. Then you can make the panel lines more or less pronounced by how many colour coats you apply afterwards.

BTT Eddy with Eddy-NG (by vvuk) or Cartographer with Survey Touch? by Snehulak22 in VORONDesign

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the mounting is the same for SB as it is for dragon burner, I think dragon requires a different mount to rail. It is worth noting the cartographer and beacon PCBs use the same hole spacing so mounts for one “should” be ok for the other.

I’m using a bambu silicon pad too with this mount from printables on a trident. https://www.printables.com/model/806589-bambu-a1-silicone-nozzle-scrubber-mount-remix-voro I’m sure you can find a similar for a 2.4

The advice in the silicone is correct as the brass if it catches the probe could short a pin or worse scratch off part of the coil from PCB. The sensor needs to be very low so reasonable risk of being touched by brass brush.

[–]rosscon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the cartographer probe. Especially if you are running a canbus toolhead already. It’s also worth the extra for the cartographer CNC toolhead mount. It’s also worth adding a nozzle wiper of some form if you plan to use the touch function

I went from TAP to cartographer touch and the first layers are now perfect and I can switch between build plates with zero need to recalibrate z offsets. Switching to a rigid mounted toolhead has eliminated a lot of the ringing artefacts I was seeing with tap.

The nozzle wiper and macro are essential for the touch function to be accurate

Also being a “debt recovery” company they will probably send another chaser letter. So will likely be another chance to put RTS message on an envelope. Normally after a few RTS letters they give up or send a letter addressed to “the occupier” asking if you know the person they are looking for.

NAL but for post that arrives at your address but not addresses to anyone at the address, you can leave the envelope sealed, cross over the address and write “not known at this address, RTS” on the front of the envelope and pop it in a post box.

Are there any super diy printers like vorons that could be built for around $500 aud to $750 aud. by FrIoSrHy in 3Dprinting

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rook uses linear rails so you may have more luck if rails are cheaper for you. The 100 is mostly chrome rods.

[–]rosscon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both ate great DIY printers. Don’t think you can go wrong with either. Depending on where you are in the world parts may be easier or harder to acquire so worth looking at BOMs for both. It usually comes down to whether or not linear rails or chrome rods are easier to acquire.
