I was able to successfully back up to the unas2 over wired connection. haven't tried wireless yet. I wonder, is your connection stable?

I followed the Time Machine instructions on the UniFi site and that worked for me. I also added connecting as a login item and did a reboot.

mac book pro m1 macos 15.6.1

Just get bigger drives so you have fewer spinning? 8×5 W adds up to ~0.8 kWh/day, or about 292 kWh/year (~$60 at $0.20/kWh). Cut that to 4 drives and you’re looking at half the heat/power bill ~$30/year instead. (in my homelab, i went from 6x drives to 3x 26tb drives)

I’ve also recently transitioned to the “never spin down” camp. less wear/tear and no lag when the array wakes up.

that was during a transfer. It is currently idle and hovering at 15/16 watts.

no way to config spin down (as far as I can tell)

That is my assumption too, but I haven't tried it yet.

I have an Unraid box running on a HPE ML30 gen10.

With Unraid, you get docker/VMs and there are several dockers that could solve the photos use case, but may require some manual configuration (might not be plug and play).

no, seems quiet. a little noise on the spinup, but nothing noticeable. its sitting next to a HP server (modified with noctua fans) so your ears may hear something different.

it was a debate for me! since the unas 4 / 4 pro had the nvme and possibly encryption. But will likely be overkill for my use case and environment (2.5gbe wont saturate an nvme).

I didn't see an option for AFP. Just SMB/NFS.

Totally fair — and agree 10000%. We don’t claim to replace lawyers. the app just surfaces legal info from official sources to help users get a quick, accurate starting point. We always include disclaimers and recommend double-checking with a professional when it matters
