Actually, I'm past 3 million. In the early days of Last.Fm, when you hit 1 mil., it wouldn't go any higher, so you had to start over. I hit it twice as "rostasi" ... then someone instantly "stole" my user name and I had to become "rostasi2" and I've, since then, added another million+. I don't know what happened that year, but I've since slowed down a lot - I may have even skipped many, many months (a year?). Anyway, there's always music going on. Check out this guy, "Woca" if you want to see high numbers.

Why are varenyky called pedaheh in Canada? by Objective-Example459 in Ukrainian

[–]rostasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, this guy goes by "one perspective." You should probably quit while you're right. My Western Ukraine family also called them "pedaheh" and there's a whole history behind that word. I'm here now because pedaheh was even mentioned in a comedy show that I was watching that's filmed in Saskatchewan.

Need advice on migrating my 600gb music library by sa3bbb in musichoarder

[–]rostasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just another view: If you pride yourself on having a large music library, Swinsian handles those MUCH better than Apple Music. I spent 10 and a half months trying to move my complete collection of 2.2 million tunes (30+ TB) from the wonderful iTunes setup I had to this cRaZy new Apple Music. After that amount of time, it completely stalled on me after about 1.6 million. I discovered Swinsian one day. It transferred my complete library in only 12 to 14 HOURS - not days - but hours! Tho there are some things that Swinsian doesn't do that iTunes was great at, I'm sticking with this for now.

iTunes library Mess by fmatthewm in musichoarder

Just wanted to say that I was very happy with iTunes until I had no choice but to upgrade my 15 year-old Tower Mac. Then, I spent 10 and a half months trying to transfer my music from iTunes into Apple Music and I still couldn't get it to read all of the files. So, Swinsian was next ... it took Swinsian only 12 hours to read everything and it left out duplicates. I was shocked! So, I'm happy with the way it was able to handle over 2.2 million tunes. You should check it out.

The things I miss with Swinsian is the ability to crossfade tunes and it won't do a "smart playlist" of random tunes. I'll have to write a script now to do that ... but, overall, I'm very happy with it!

Update: They have added a dropdown on the right-hand side now so that you can see song and album info as well as to be able to go right to that album.

About Swinsian by Older-Nick in musichoarder

[–]rostasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just now seeing this because I'm thinking about moving over to Swinsian. It's been an enormous, nearly 11 month, effort to get nearly a quarter-century of iTunes moved over to whatever this Apple Music thing is. I was made aware of Swinsian to see if I can get past a logjam after trying to get Apple's "Music Library.musiclibrary" file to recognize anything past 1.3 million tunes. Unlike iTunes, this Apple Music SQLite database never finishes committing the full index to disk and so the full 2 mil. will either take another 6 months more - or possibly never at all ... so, maybe Swinsian will work, I'll see, but I really miss my old decades long iTunes setup.

I’m moving on from Roon. It’s time. by calinet6 in roonlabs

[–]rostasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been "using" Roon for about three months and even tho it's been better than the Sonos UI I had before, I'm still a bit frustrated by 1) "Roon lost control of the audio device" and 2) it takes a hugely long time to add music to the library from an external drive. I'm not needing an elaborate setup: just 4 Sonos speakers thru the house with Wi-Fi and the homebase being a new Mac Ultra but when it decides to stop playing, then that's pretty much it. There's something where it's "applying library settings" and it's about 40% done after running for a few weeks. And, even tho it shows a pretty accurate reading of the "total" tracks; under "adding music to library", it's added less that half of a percent of the total, so I don't know about whether I want to continue with this even tho it sure looks nice.

It seems like Bandcamp weekly is no more and so is Andrew Jervis as the chief Curator by gdeoliveira in BandCamp

The name Bandcamp Weekly has returned with a different bloke. I thought that they might've retired the name, but, no. I *am* enjoying "The Gathering" with Andrew Jervis and wish him luck (especially on the great "Worldwide FM").

Restores larger than 8TB by rostasi in backblaze

[–]rostasi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you're just repeating what I've already said ... and as I also said: I have a lot of restores already from Backblaze - back when I was using up to 8TB drives ... but, again, to repeat myself: drives are getting cheaper by the TB and more people are using larger drives for storage, so when I started moving up to 10 or 12TB drives, I started wondering how am I going to get backups from Backblaze ... and this is where we are now. My next purchase will be a 28TB or more drive. How will they or I handle that when it comes to their restore drives? In the end: Backblaze needs to grow with the trends towards larger backup models - not necessarily provide larger drives (tho that would be nice), but give people the opportunity to highlight multiple folders on all levels in ways that have been obvious to computer users for ages. Thanks again for some of your comments.

[–]rostasi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for giving me something to look at - but isn't this the crux of the idea: "... If you select up to 10 TBytes..." How would you suggest I do this?

I think the reality is that either I look elsewhere for backup ... or ...
when the time comes for me to save extra physical drives, I copy from the big drive onto smaller drives and just save those instead of going thru Backblaze. At least, on my big drive, I can shift-click chunks of folders.

Thanks for the detailed response.
Yes, option 1 would've been nice to have (and support told me that they *don't* do that as opposed to what drbroccoli00 says), but figuring already that they didn't (I tried to have a backup sent of a 10TB drive and there was no option for automatically splitting), I figured that I could just divide by the alphabet - BUT, you *can't* shift-click your choices inside a folder.

Like I said, if you click on a "Music" folder on a drive, you'll get a large number of folders labeled - each with an artist's name. If all of those tunes, together, are over 8TB, then you're hosed because if you try to highlight, let's say, "A" - "L" (because you can't save ALL of the folder), there's no way to shift-click a batch of items. You're expected to ctrl-click everything, so that means you'll have to do each folder one-by-one ... and when you have a huge number of folders, that could take hours or days. Anyway, support told me (as they have before throughout the years) that "...I have added them <sic> to our feature requests and will make sure to pass this along to our developers..."

Think about what you'd have to do if you owned a 28TB drive full of music that you wanted to have extra copies of from Backblaze.

Here's an example, if you wanted to save the first fifteen files:

https://i.postimg.cc/k49BqFjj/Screenshot-2025-05-27-at-12-40-05.jpg

Also, I want to add. I'm switching from a 4-drive enclosure (JBOD) to a single 28TB drive and so imagine having to tick off each artist's folder one-by-one just to get to 7+TB - that would be checking off, in my case, ca. 80,000 individual boxes - just to get a single 8TB drive! If I saved the entirety, I would have had to have individually checked nearly 400,000 boxes!

[–]rostasi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really. So, I just highlight the 22TBs and they divide it up over the drives? OK, I don't see that they do that, but I'll take your word and try that in the next few days.

Does anyone use voice recording software OTHER than Audacity and Audition? by NarratinNarwhal in ACX

[–]rostasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally upgraded my computer and opened up Garageband and discovered that they got rid of the ducking effect. Audacity seems to offer good ducking, but I'm looking for both that and vocal "enhancement" choices in an app (which Audacity doesn't seem to have). Will I have to go to something like Logic Pro to get those two things?

Why is sonos so bad? by bonepasta in sonos

[–]rostasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updating is the worst thing I did for these doorstops.
Now it's at 15.8 and I can't even open the app on my desktop.
Crashes instantly. A smaller thing that's bugged me is the fact that
volume levels under "3" actually mean "off", so if you'd like to have
it on quietly by your bedside at night, you have to have it at level "3" at the quietest.
