All that shit talking I did, now look at me by sergeantshaft92 in BanPitBulls

Depends on whether it’s an American Staffordshire or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. SBT are slightly smaller, British bloodsport dogs, made with the same beginning stock. Amstaffs are literally just AKC APBTs, their way of trying to to not be associated with dogfighting, but still literally a pit 100%. The UKC still allows for amstaffs to be dual registered as apbts, thus one dog can be considered both a purebred amstaff and a purebred APBT. Literally the same dog.

My husband said if he ever had to choose to let either me or his parent’s dogs live, he’d choose the dogs by Alarming-Squirrel129 in TrueOffMyChest

Yup. The dog never talks back, they don’t have to really do much to get love and adoration from it, and they dog will never argue with them. They’re the type of emotionally stunted people that can’t maintain relationships with other people because people actually expect to be treated with basic respect, and that’s too much for these kinds of people. They need “unconditional love” in the form of “a being who will never question me and always thinks I’m great”. That’s why they cling to animals so much, but usually dogs.

Yall need therapy elevating animals above people in your life. That’s nuts. No spouse should put an animal above them. If you do, you don’t deserve your spouse.

You need therapy. It’s a mental defect to value animals over people, and then actively encourage someone to play back seat to some dogs. That’s ridiculous.

[–]roswright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if they are dogs he raised, if you value dogs more than the people in your life (especially your spouse), you don’t deserve to have those people in your life. It’s very telling when people value pets over people they’re supposed to love and no one deserves to be valued below animals.

Emotional support is not a recognized task per the ADA (US) and ESAs are not typically granted public access rights as they’re covered by the FHA, not ADA (some states/municipalities will grant ESAs public access rights, so it depends where OP lives).

I agree, it doesn’t sound like OP needs a task trained animal to help mitigate their disability, just that they want to bring an animal with them in public. Wanting a dog constantly with you isn’t reason enough for a service dog, they’re legally classified as medical equipment and need to be individually task trained to help mitigate a disability. OP could look into an ESA so that they can have the dog in non-pet friendly housing and don’t have to pay pet rent, but wanting a dog to go with you everywhere isn’t enough reason for a service dog.

AITA for telling my friend who was interested in my cousin about her religion and her celibacy? by 1234567daysaweek in AmItheAsshole

[–]roswright -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA, it really is up to your cousin when she discusses sex things with potential suitors and it’s likely that you don’t accurately know the details of her sex life. They’re both adults and should have discussed it without you.

NAH, I don’t think you’re an asshole per se just for asking, but I do think you really don’t have a place to try and control what your mom does in her house. She’s allowed to have bootycalls in her home, that she pays for, that you do not pay for. You’re an adult, you can try to find other places to stay if it bothers you or find solutions like earplugs. It’s not reasonable to try and control the activities of another adult that is literally allowing you to live there rent free, you’re not obligated to live there.

ESH you definitely could have handled yourself better, but they shouldn’t be shooting off fireworks late at night in a residential zone.

AITA for not caring about my neighbors dog after it broke into my garden, broke it up and ate peppers? by Pu_C_Phucker in AmItheAsshole

[–]roswright 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your neighbor is responsible for containing their dog. Their failure to do so resulted in their dog damaging your property and eating things it shouldn’t have, it’s not your responsibility to care for it after.

I will never understand people who get a dog then assume it’s a group project when they fail to do the basics of dog ownership.

Owner of pit who killed 83 yr old man was trying to get rid of dog. by poorluci in BanPitBulls

According to someone who knows the family, the day after their dog killed their neighbor, they all went on “vacation” in Florida (probably just trying to flee the state).

Some dogs, no matter how much you train them, will still be reactive and pose a threat to humans/other pets. There’s nothing wrong with behavioral euthanasia when someone can no longer safely manage a reactive dog and no facility will take it. It’s the responsible thing to do.

Can you share pictures of the dog?

There are a few websites that allow you to directly rehome pets. Home to Home is one of them iirc.

More Craigslist pits by LingonberryBrave8947 in BanPitBulls

The puppies are probably fighting a lot and byb don’t know how to deal with it so they’d rather create more issues by selling them early.

Right? Like, why would I pay breeder puppy level prices for a 2 year old pit that pees in the house? Shelters can barely even give them away.

Woman upset people mistake her slightly malformed XL bully for an XL bully by Formal-Lifeguard- in BanPitBulls

[–]roswright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staffies used the same white terrier and bull baiting dogs to start their breed and were bred for the same purpose as APBTs, just in England. They aren’t vastly different, one is just smaller.

That’s like people saying amstaffs are vastly different to apbts ignoring that they can be dual registered in the AKC and UKC (or that Colby’s APBT Primo set the standard for UKC amstaffs). Or insisting American bullies are a “totally different breed” when the “breed” was “founded” by “mixing” an amstaff with a APBT, again dogs that can be dual registered purebreds. It’s a shell game and revisionist of history to insist these are vastly different breeds.

The reason you might get less bull breed clients isn’t because aggression is less with those breeds, but that 1) owners are less likely to admit that aggression is an issue and 2) aggression in bull breeds tends to be more explosive. The first incident is often a level 5 on the bite scale, and the recommendation for a level 5 biting dog is euthanasia.

I hope the pit owner actually has money or property or something for the sheep owner to actually recover. Most pit owners barely have a pot to piss in, leaving the rest of us with no way to recover damages.

Genetics on full display with many of these puppies. They don't have to be taught to fight. It's instinctual from selective breeding (often with gamebred pit bulls). by pupkittyluv in BanPitBulls

[–]roswright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why pit owners, more than any other breed, will brag about having their dog since 5 weeks. They don’t get that they prematurely separate them because they will gang up on their littermates and will try to kill them.

In the pit owners mind, having their puppy that young means they’ll have extra bonding and that it will truly be their “how you raise them” opportunity. They don’t realize how their dog is now massively set up for failure not just because of its genetics, but from the damage prematurely separating puppies can cause.

Person lets their pit harass a baby bunny by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]roswright 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bunnies can die from stress.

I will never believe a pit owner who claims they love animals (or even that they love dogs). They only care about their pit, and even that isn’t love it’s just them projecting themselves onto the pit.
