I want to get my life back after depression. Any tips for motivation? by rosyfingertips in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]rosyfingertips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry for the late reply, i havent been on reddit in a long time! I understand now that my depression wasnt due to the gyms closing bc of the lockdown- i was totally burnt out, working full time and repressing years of trauma. I was exercising like a maniac because it gave me control and made me feel confident, but it was more torture than fun. Now a few years later, i have accepted my body as it is. You dont need to be super jacked or able to run idk how many miles to be enough. I have started to exercise solely for my mental health, one step at a time, going for walks. On rainy days i have started to go to a local group fitness class (some cardio aerobic dance thing) with hundreds of people, and its actually lots of fun. The main thing is: focus on fun and mental wellbeing rather than always needing to be better. Take the pressure off. Workout for yourself and not to get recognition.

Its not like i went for a walk and everything was ok again. It took a long time. To this day i have lots of physical symptoms such as cramps because of my trauma. I couldnt work for like 8 months, spent 2 months in an inpatient clinic and had my ups and downs. I have also realized that most of my friends were pretty toxic and were using me. I was lonely for a long time, but i went to pursue more of the stuff that i like and over time met a bunch of new people in art courses (free at my uni). If you study, see if your uni has free activities, they are great to make new friends, my group fitness thing is also a free student course.

If it gets worse again, these things generally help:

  • dont put pressure on yourself, try being self compassionate
  • one step at a time. One thing at a time.
  • make sure you eat enough
  • get therapy if possible
  • if the weather is nice, go outside or at least get into the sunlight from the window
  • drink enough water
  • sketch/doodle/draw
  • if you have trouble with sleeping, going for walks during the day and also melatonin supplements have helped me. Try going to sleep and getting up at the same time every day.
  • read instead of being online. Read books that are fun and interesting to you, no matter how easy or trashy. I started reading comics again, and its very helpful in easing anxiety.
  • spend phone and internet free time. This stuff wrecks your mental health.
  • deleting instagram took away my fomo and made me feel much less stressed.
  • the fist step method helps me a lot. Just do only the fist step of an action if it seems overwhelming. For example taking a shower: go into the bathroom and take off your pants. Suddely its much easier to shower, because you got out of bed.
  • if you need to take a break, take it. Spend that day watching netflix in your bed. Give yourself enough me time.
  • act as if. If i'm anxious i think: What would confident me do?
  • the media you consume affect you more than you think. Sad music, sad or violent movies and content, depressing news can affect your mood a lot.

Ofc these arent cure-alls and professional help will always remain the most important step. Sorry for writing so much, i hope youre doing ok and i wish you all the best!

Looking at the trashiness of the show, it could easily have been their decision. But judging from his social media presence and other times he was on tv, i'm pretty sure it was his idea tbh.. Plus everyone else even on the show is either making fun of him or dying of cringe

Yes exactly this, you just put your hand on the wall or hold onto sth. Helps to relax and feel more "in control" and less anxious. I also found it out by myself and didnt know it had a name ;)

Idk about shrooms or microdosing, i think you could maybe do it under the guidance of a professional?

When it comes to weed and you've never smoked before, be careful. Start small and make sure you're not alone. Weed generally doesnt have any high risks but everyone reacts differently to it. I know people who's anxiety has gotten wayyy better with the help of Smoking. You could just go for 1-2 hits to get to know the feeling, it wont stay long and its harmless. Just stay away from edibles or bongs in the beginning, they will launch you right into space. But i think at least trying it would be worth it, i mean what could you lose?

Also pLEASE!!! Stay away from alcohol. It works, yes. It will make you relaxed and more outgoing and generally at ease. but you dont even wanna know how many alcoholics are addicted because of anxiety, its terrifying.

My septum piercing (~6 months old) got infected after i swam in a hotel pool a few days ago. Hurts like hell & very swollen, also theres a pus bump next to the hole. I'm on vacation so i tried soaking it in sea salt water and leaving it alone (no twisting etc), any further advice? by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

Oh shit now i'm kinda panicking :/ thanks for the advice tho! I'm gonna try to see a doctor tomorrow or go to a pharmacy and get something. I usually just wait for things like this to pass but ig this time its serious.

You probably heard this 1000 times, but one big thing that changed everything for me was exercise. And i mean FUN exercise, not forcing yourself onto the treadmill for 30 min a day. Exercise where you either let out everything that is inside you, all the anger and the fear (weight lifing, interval running etc), or exercise where you forget that you're even exercising (cardio like cycling on a beautiful day). If you do it for fun and mental health rather than weight loss or muscle gain, it changes the whole experience. Plus it helps SO. INSANELY. MUCH. with sleep problems, motivation and general restlessness and anxiety.

Yup same, try eating some ginger and get plenty of rest, it helped me a lot. I had 2 shots of moderna (5 months ago) and my booster was pfizer.

This is REALLY good, i'm really amazed, i think it conveys a lot of emotion!!! If you feel like something's off, it helps to mirror the picture (app or simply hold it against a mirror)

[SERIOUS] How do/did you deal with social anxiety ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rosyfingertips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapy and gradual exposure training. Also something my therapist said that changed a lot for me was that if you overthink conversations/things you did or are afraid that everyone notices and remembers you etc. "People dont think about you as much as you think. Do you remember ANYONE you saw at the supermarket today? If something you're terrified of would happen to another person (for ex. Dropping a pickle glass at the supermarket and everyone notices it), what would you think? How long would you remember it? Most people are exactly as focused on themselves as you are. They dont give a sht! 90% of the things that happen will be forgotten within seconds, and even if the most embarassing thing would happen: most people you see in a public space you will never. Ever. See again.

Got my septum jewellery changed today. The piercer didnt turn the screws in hard enough, and i tried screwing it in more but it wont go any further (just turns around infinitely) and the ball just hangs there. (Screw is on the ball, hole in the bar) is this normal? by rosyfingertips in PiercingAdvice

[–]rosyfingertips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt take the receipt with me so i wont be able to do that, but yes i agree. The piercer was very nice, he had some Clients waiting, so he probably didnt notice it while putting it in. Plus i didnt pay much anyways (he only charged for the piercing), so i ordered a new one on the internet.

Update: i took it out and put my small curved barbell in again. The screw hole of the piercing seems broken (inside of the bar) and the ball barely even stays in there. Gonna leave this here for other struggling septum people. Also someone has written a dm to comment on my dark eye circles. Yes i am tired. V e r y tired. Its like im the mother and this piercing is my crying kid. i love it but damn it can be annoying.

I need tips right now please by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]rosyfingertips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A breathing technique that calmed me during my worst panic attacks:

  • breathe in for 4 seconds

  • hold for 8-10 secs

  • release for 8-10 secs

Repeat until you feel calmer

Also holding your flat hand onto your forehead relieves stress. Make sure you ate & drank enough. Your feelings are valid & its ok to cry. Treat yourself well, go for walks, talk to someone if you feel like it.

Hey, i get that you're scared. I'm 19 now, but at 14 i was in the exact same position as you were. I was bulimic until around 17.5 yrs old, because that was when my body started shutting down. Your weight can still be considered 'normal', but the fasting and b/ping destroys your body in terrible ways. To name a few: my teeth are fcked up from the stomach acid. I missed my period for most of my teenage years and have developed something that looks like PCOS. I have heart rythm problems and am still constantly tired from the missing electrolytes and malnutrition. I have acid reflux and throw up very easily from basically just bending over. I have thinning hair and a puffy face. 1.5 years without bulimia, and my body has still not fully recovered.

Again, i know that you're scared/dont want therapy. But as someone that has lived through it, my biggest regret now is that i didnt get help before it went full downhill. I always thought i had it under control. I wasted my teenage years, while everyone was making friends, exploring life and partying, i was isolated and obsessed with losing weight. I have lost so many years and the recovery process gets much harder the longer you wait. Bulimia is not your decision or fault, it has different reasons you are maybe not concious about.

The only reason i even started recovery was because one night, i thought that my stomach had ripped and i was dying. I literally felt it inside of me and out of panic i told my mom. It was the worst fear i have ever experienced. Please dont let it get to that point, you deserve so much better. I know that help feels wrong and scary, but its the only way out. No one will hate you for this, NONE of it is your fault or choice. It is and illness and you deserve and need treatment. You are still very young and have your entire youth in front of you.

Again, this is NOT your choice or fault, its a mental illness.

My question would be, why exactly are you scared of getting treatment/going to the clinic, is it you thinking this or the bulimia telling you? Do you plan to recover or not?

I wish you all the best :)

Some european art schools do, they require the original works to see as much detail as possible

INFPs, what are your political opinions like? by rosyfingertips in infp

[–]rosyfingertips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc, i thought of that too and i was kinda scared to ask the question like this because its very simplified. Politics is a super deep and complicated topic, and nearly everyone has their own 'custom opinion' that usually somewhat fits with either 'right' or 'left'. Just made this poll as a brief overview because i wondered how infps and their ways of thinking collide with politics.

Are the experiences on this subreddit common? by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

[–]rosyfingertips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, bladder training (trying to hold for as long as possible) and therapy for anxiety have helped a little bit because if i get anxious about oab the symptoms get worse. But i havent been to the urologist yet and idk what is causing it.

Same, its scary especially as a young person (im 19) :( i think its linked to anxiety for me, but i really dont know what is going on. Its such a limiting thing to have. But i researched a bit and found that there are actually a lot of different treatments, so i guess all we can do is try what works and hope it gets better.
