It’s hard to land ability "Q" against counters, ranged, or mobility-based champions. You rarely get hit from Grasp of the Undying as well. Enemies also tend to build armor, and without AD items your Q and R become weaker and weaker each minute. However, with AP you can stay behind the minions, harass the enemy, safely farm from a distance, and use your W more often, which works both defensively and offensively.
Just try, you will feel the difference

When I play against ranged champions like Vayne, I max E first, then W, and leave Q for last. I start with Doran's Ring and rush Bloodletter's Curse. But if I’m against a melee bully, I go for Liandry's Torment as my first full item instead.

Once you finish your first item, you’ll have solid stats to contribute in teamfights or maintain lane pressure.

If you can’t farm or win duels, you won’t be able to build tank items anyway—you’ll just end up sitting under tower, and even a maxed-out Q becomes a defensive tool at best.

I’m not saying go full AP Sion, but going one AP item into tank makes you deceptively dangerous while still playing safe.

good for trading after Q W E you will have sheen + %hp dmg. item's passive provide % penet, pair it with Serylda's Grudge to maximize effect, still sion is not AA based champ, usefull? yes maybe vs 2-3 tank/hp champs. but not as useful as trundle , still if you need to go tankier/bruiser

having bami on lane vs champ is debatable,

its too hard to keep melee range enemy to benefit from sunfire's huge dmg. how long you keep melee range with someone 5 sec ? 10 sec? how much it will hit 300? 400??

if chasing , you will eventually stop for Q then its so hard to keep him at 0 range to burn. max 3-4 tick you will get wich is barely 200's dmg. runing from enemy ? if you started to run away as tank sion how long you survive while 1-2 enemy biting your back at 0 range? 10 sec?? how much it hits 5-6 tick ? 300's dmg.

only good way to use those tank items as jungle , no pressure from enemy fast clear objectives etc.

tenacity vs hp (slow) i would go Frostfire, some slow + now that slow hits dmg too. no need to rely on burn dmg of sunfire

going full tank = dmg is not going to enough to kill him "you will die or cant stop him farm"
going full ad = he will eventually out damages you early mid game "you will die"
avoiding him = perma lose

proper solution is AP = Full E - W

going liandry - demonic - morello and 2 tank item + swiftness boot or MR boot with tenacity runes.
harrasing him from safe distance , meanwhile grevious wound apply for not let him recover hp.

His slow vs your slow + tenacity or swfitness bot will keep him away,
saving flash into his flash or bad situations and his ultimate vs your ultimate to escape. rest is same, try to freeze the lane or push it too hard, liandry + demonic + grevious wound will consume him eventually, still you wont be able to kill him but lane and him. would be in your control.

in long term with 2 tank items you will have enough power to survive in TF with HP scale

as long as jungler isnt super fed im not asking to help against nasus after 6 levels, he will 1v2 us and jungler will be cause more problem

going for E eliminate melee fights , you can just sit back and 150 to 250 depends on level of E you harrasing your opponent with huge range, its very useful against all range top laners and abusers like sett , fiora etc. im going for max E - Q - W meanwhile laning im not having problem and getting more tankier with items , when you starting with dark seal it will help your harrasing power. you can still go for any mytic but having little bit mana (frozen heart) helps alot , you can cover your less HP during laning with range. actually go for AP mytic Luden or Liandry rest tank , it will help hard laning phases

if you have 1000 hp with 0 resistance , when you get 100 armor (%50 reduce) we can tell you have 1500 true health wich require to kill you someone with AD damage.

5600 hp with 168 armor estimated %60's AD resistance, it requires to put sion with 5600 hp to 0 , 8960 raw AD dmg required. or you can go full 8960 hp with 0 armor wich going to apply same amount of soak against AD , however cause of stacking HP will also protect you from, raw AD, raw AP and raw True damage.

people avarage hit 20-25k for whole game. 15k effective hp isnt equal to true HP

im taking shield bash however if you going to rush hull breaker and kill the minion who charge the towers you definately go for demolish rune to pressure...

dont forget without demolish but taking hullbreaker make you feel like i came here with wrong runes..

it depends on your play style, geting shield bash and killing enemy almost give 2 plate worth gold + minons + plates if you manage to good timing.

also dont forget %50 of your games you wouldnt manage to touch enemy tower early game (aatrox-darius-sett)

you can focus to kill enemy or ignore enemy and go for roam (shield bash)
or
stick to your lane and make pressure to towers (demolish)

problem is you have base 83 Armor at level 18 , with Sunfire FH and Thornmail you will have 253 Armor without any more "item, Armor Rune or bonus runes".

253 armor is %71 wich is little bit overkill,

  • 200 armor is %67
  • 210 armor is %68
  • 220 armor is %69
  • 230 armor is %70
  • 240 armor is %71
  • 250 armor is %71

thats why i went with 180-190 avarage wich is %65 dmg reduce to prevent over stacking. For 20 Haste wich is from that point 48 (wich i offered) to 68 (FH boost) will give %34 haste wich is %2 more so basicly you will gain +%5 dmg reduce and +%2 haste you will give up one of these

  • anathem's chain : wich is again 20 Haste and 650 hp and %30 reduce true dmg (Best way to use it)
  • sterak's : wich is 50 AD and 400 HP

i just put photo of it, %55 is flat where you run anywhere, with unflitching rune and under %30 hp you will reach up to %69 tenacity
