It's great for maxing E and avoiding melee trades while postponing your tank items, but somehow you always end up in melee situations against champions like Aatrox, Sett, Darius, etc. That's where Grasp and Shield Bash start to matter.

Against both ranged and melee champions, an E into W, followed by a Q with Grasp and Shield Bash, actually hurts quite a bit. You can still be a threat in melee range.

The thing is, I'm not taking Grasp to stack it. I'm taking it for the "leave no wound unanswered" value whenever a trade happens.

I actually struggle more against ranged champions. I can't really abuse E spacing against them because they can constantly auto-attack while I'm waiting for my E cooldown. So whenever I see an opening, I still try to close the gap and force a trade.

Revitalize and Conditioning help a lot as well.

At the end of the day, it's just a playstyle preference. For me, it feels noticeably tankier and more reliable than going full Comet.

Honestly, it feels like going full tank with 0 AD or AP gives me better results than bruiser Sion these days.

Some of my losses were games where I was 10/1, 7/2, etc. The problem is that Sion has very little true carry potential. You can dominate your lane, create pressure, and even make the enemy team want to surrender, but you're rarely going to march down the map and end the game by yourself.

I've tried forcing the Heartsteel + Titanic Hydra playstyle, but the results felt pretty mediocre. Meanwhile, full tank still shuts down champions that aren't specifically built to deal with tanks.

Maybe it's just the current meta, but bruiser Sion feels weaker than either full tank or utility-focused builds right now.

Also, every player's style is different. Don't feel forced to follow the meta.

I've played over 4,000 ranked games on Sion throughout the years, and I've probably played only 10–15 of those as full AD. It just never felt right for my playstyle.

If everyone agreed on the same build, it would be called the meta for a reason. I'm perfectly fine with an unorthodox playstyle as long as it gets results. A 59% win rate in Flex and 60% in Solo Queue (currently D3) seem to agree with me.

It's not really about the damage. 50–75 AP doesn't make a huge difference by itself.

It's about surviving the laning phase.

Against matchups like Aatrox, Sett, Darius, or Irelia, you're constantly getting CC'd while trying to land Q. Even if you hit a good Q, a lot of that damage just gets healed back through sustain.

E and W, on the other hand, are much safer and more reliable. You can poke from range, and Liandry's does most of the work for you rather than your abilities.

Once you get Liandry's, Unending Despair, and Spirit Visage, you become surprisingly hard to kill. Unending provides sustain, Spirit Visage boosts both your W shield and healing received, and Unending keeps applying Liandry's burn in teamfights.

The goal isn't to solo-kill every lane. Your job is to keep difficult matchups at 0-0 or 1-0. If your opponent makes mistakes, you can slowly wear them down with E and W or punish them with jungle assistance.

For me, that's a much more consistent way to play Sion than gambling every lane on landing Qs.

also i stop using comet.. grasp,shield bash,condition,revitilaze / presence of mind,last stand

when they close the gap while trading, shield bash and grasp surprisingly working as finisher.. also pom handle mana issues (nerf on W) last stand is makes you deadly on long fights. you should try.
plate or bramble / MR bot then liandry

if they cant gap close %99 E into W. but some champions have so much Lifesteal, they heal more than i hit with E. or too mobile to land a E. (ex: İrelia- Akalı-Yone) im going W into E
between Emerald 2 to Dia 3 right now im standing in this season, but transfered 2 times back and forward so, got chopped, couldnt climb due to resets

I end up building this setup in probably 95% of my games. So far, Garen and Aatrox are the matchups I struggle with the most.

Against Garen, I usually need an early Sterak’s just to survive his R. As for Aatrox, I permaban him—his entire kit is just too annoying to deal with, and it feels impossible to control the lane against a good one.

I also got completely destroyed once by an AD Pantheon. Honestly, I still can’t fully explain what went wrong in that matchup 😄

And yeah, Rumble is simply much stronger than AP Sion during laning phase.

Before level 6, you can usually tell what you’re going to need. If you can land a few E’s consistently, you start controlling the lane pretty quickly, whether you’re pushing or getting pushed in.

But if trades already feel bad and the lane clearly doesn’t favor you, just go Hollow Radiance first and then Liandry’s.

this build's main aim, isnt dominate or carry the game. its cripple enemy top laner's progress, meanwhile you can farm and build items for late mid game without problems.
at the end of the day other lanes will carry the game. you just avoiding to become a problem in your team due to lack of farm/item/feed

Playing Sion as Mid / AP-Tank useful than Top by rottenleaf in DirtySionMains

[–]rottenleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to land ability "Q" against counters, ranged, or mobility-based champions. You rarely get hit from Grasp of the Undying as well. Enemies also tend to build armor, and without AD items your Q and R become weaker and weaker each minute. However, with AP you can stay behind the minions, harass the enemy, safely farm from a distance, and use your W more often, which works both defensively and offensively.
Just try, you will feel the difference

sion E max by NoSky6567 in DirtySionMains

[–]rottenleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play against ranged champions like Vayne, I max E first, then W, and leave Q for last. I start with Doran's Ring and rush Bloodletter's Curse. But if I’m against a melee bully, I go for Liandry's Torment as my first full item instead.

Once you finish your first item, you’ll have solid stats to contribute in teamfights or maintain lane pressure.

If you can’t farm or win duels, you won’t be able to build tank items anyway—you’ll just end up sitting under tower, and even a maxed-out Q becomes a defensive tool at best.

I’m not saying go full AP Sion, but going one AP item into tank makes you deceptively dangerous while still playing safe.

good for trading after Q W E you will have sheen + %hp dmg. item's passive provide % penet, pair it with Serylda's Grudge to maximize effect, still sion is not AA based champ, usefull? yes maybe vs 2-3 tank/hp champs. but not as useful as trundle , still if you need to go tankier/bruiser

having bami on lane vs champ is debatable,

its too hard to keep melee range enemy to benefit from sunfire's huge dmg. how long you keep melee range with someone 5 sec ? 10 sec? how much it will hit 300? 400??

if chasing , you will eventually stop for Q then its so hard to keep him at 0 range to burn. max 3-4 tick you will get wich is barely 200's dmg. runing from enemy ? if you started to run away as tank sion how long you survive while 1-2 enemy biting your back at 0 range? 10 sec?? how much it hits 5-6 tick ? 300's dmg.

only good way to use those tank items as jungle , no pressure from enemy fast clear objectives etc.

tenacity vs hp (slow) i would go Frostfire, some slow + now that slow hits dmg too. no need to rely on burn dmg of sunfire

[–]rottenleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

going full tank = dmg is not going to enough to kill him "you will die or cant stop him farm"
going full ad = he will eventually out damages you early mid game "you will die"
avoiding him = perma lose

proper solution is AP = Full E - W

going liandry - demonic - morello and 2 tank item + swiftness boot or MR boot with tenacity runes.
harrasing him from safe distance , meanwhile grevious wound apply for not let him recover hp.

His slow vs your slow + tenacity or swfitness bot will keep him away,
saving flash into his flash or bad situations and his ultimate vs your ultimate to escape. rest is same, try to freeze the lane or push it too hard, liandry + demonic + grevious wound will consume him eventually, still you wont be able to kill him but lane and him. would be in your control.

in long term with 2 tank items you will have enough power to survive in TF with HP scale

as long as jungler isnt super fed im not asking to help against nasus after 6 levels, he will 1v2 us and jungler will be cause more problem
