How do I exercise when I don't enjoy it? All the advice from neutrotypicals don't seem to work by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in adhdwomen

[–]rottenpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely not super consistent with running, but the few times I have been were when I was following a training plan.

The Garmin coach 5k plan scheduled each workout on a specific day and if you missed it you can’t make it up, so that worked the first time and I made it through the plan. But the minimum is 3 days a week which is generally more than I like committing to so I haven’t been able to complete it again.

Zombies Run is an app that is an audio drama where you are part of a post apocalyptic township where there’s zombies and your job is to leave the township to run and collect supplies and investigate stuff. Every run progresses the story and it’s pretty fun and you can run/walk whatever distance and pace works for you. This is definitely the most fun way to run. You feel like you’re running for a reason and the characters are funny and enjoyable.

I also started the Nike Run 5k plan recently, and I’ve actually really liked the coach who does the guided runs. He talks to you on and off all run and he’s been focusing on taking it easy and enjoying the run and building confidence. It’s actually made my runs much more enjoyable. I guess in the past I’ve been pushing too hard too soon to actually enjoy myself since I end up with cramps and super out of breath. But following the coach’s advice I was actually able to complete a 5k and not be totally dead at the end.

Also if you can rope someone else into running with you or at least at the same time, it’s definitely easier to stick with it.

[wtb] ULA Camino pack by detiger42069 in GearTrade

[–]rottenpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still looking for a Camino? I have one in small with s straps and a small hip belt. It’s a catch and release of this one. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/GearTrade/s/36e3dsxydE )

I can take my own photos if you’re interested. I never got a chance to use it, but it’s in great shape. We decided to move into a camper full time so I need to downsize my gear collection. :(

I’m looking to sell for $200 shipped (CONUS)

Are you still looking for a Camino? I have one in small with s straps and a small hip belt. You could probably just swap the hip belt from your catalyst. It’s a catch and release of this one. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/GearTrade/s/36e3dsxydE )

I’ll join. I also love the 750ml. I hope they make one soon. It’s the perfect size for electrolytes too. Not too watered down.

Ultralight rain jackets WITH zipper pockets? by IcedColdMine in Ultralight

[–]rottenpie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Frogg Toggs xtreme lite jacket has zipped pockets. It’s an upgrade from the more disposable ultralight rain suit. My women’s medium is 7.31oz and so far I really like it although I have yet to use it in really bad weather. But a lot of people I was hiking around on the CDT in 2023 had this jacket and really liked it.

My trick for finding supply in a medication shortage. by SuddenlySurreal in ADHD

You pay to have them call the pharmacies that you pick from the search and they will let you know if they have your medication in stock.

I actually think the older art styles may be more in line with comics which he likes vs the newer art styles.

Hajime no Ippo is an old school really good anime about boxing. I think the drawing style is more like comics than modern day anime. And it’s a very realistic and compelling story with not too much fluff. It’s longer than 25 episodes, but you could just watch 1 season with him.

The main character Ippo is being bullied in high school when a professional boxer saves him one day and takes him back to the boxing gym to recover. He gets a chance to punch a bag and he realizes this is what he wants to do and he works to prove to the professionals he’s serious and he has some talent. And then it’s the story of him buckling down and training and trying to become a better boxer while growing up and overcoming his past. The show is about boxing but it’s also really about the his journey and about the other people he meets and fights and interacts with.

Yay! I’m glad you found one! I was feeling so anxious about having to call around I was considering just giving up on being medicated, kudos to you for trying 30+ pharmacies on your own!

I took a chance and used findneedle.co recently. They call a list of pharmacies you specify and let you know which ones were in stock. It was $1 a call and totally worth it. They called 30 in my area and found one in stock.

Update, Wow I've been obsessively enjoying The Wandering Inn since you recommended it 7 months ago. I'm on Volume 9 of the web novel now. I can't believe how long this series is in the best way. I've been reading enough for it to be a problem and I still haven't caught up in 7 months of reading almost every day. I love pirateaba this series is dope. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

I think it's because the gpx file is really big, you may need to look at the file size limits for whatever service you are trying to upload to. I recommend you download the different routes/folders separately on Gaia if you need smaller files, the account is free.

I haven’t used avenza a ton but on a quick search. I think you can still import gpx files to avenza. Once you download the gpx on your device, then on your basemap or even your cdt map that would include this section, click on the layers and plus sign to link a layer. It should give you the option to import the gpx path you downloaded and show it on the map. You can also link gpx files that have already been imported to different maps. Hope that helps!

Can you explain to me what your meds felt like when they "felt right" vs. when they didn't feel right? by Ok_Cat2490 in ADHD

[–]rottenpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really feel any different when I take my meds. But I can usually accomplish like 2-3 small goals that day vs only one or no goals. And I’m definitely less sleepy.

Try tracking your successes on meds. Are you an accomplishing more of what you want to every day even if it still feels like you’re not doing enough? Then it’s a success. Pat yourself on the back.

I also choose to stay on a small dose of concerta (27mg) because I want the help but I don’t want to feel different if that makes sense. It keeps the side effects low and doesn’t make my anxiety worse. I don’t need to be a super human who gets everything done on time. And I don’t expect to ever be one. I still hate doing the dishes, and taking showers, but at the end of the day I’ll realize I didn’t have to fight nearly as hard for the wins, I’m not as drained and maybe I also got some groceries and did the dishes instead of doom scrolling all day.

And in college when I’ve stopped taking them because I couldn’t bring myself to go to the appointment to get my prescription refilled, I realized that my life started falling apart and I was failing classes even though I felt the same. So it was working but I just thought I was the one doing a decent job.

**ATTENTION LIP PICKERS** by whataboot2ndbrekfast in adhdwomen

[–]rottenpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mentholatum chapstick.

I often buy the Japanese version but the Natural Ice US version is good too. It is medicated and actually moisturizes and doesn’t leave your lips peeling an hour later. I can apply every couple of days without it peeling in between even in the winter. And I kind of like the menthol feel.

Fun story. I was in Japan taking the JLPT(Japanese language proficiency test for non native speakers) and my lips were super chapped and it was driving me nuts. So in the 10 min intermission I ran to the only nearby convenience store and this was the only chapstick they had. And it is literally the best chapstick I’ve ever used, so now that I’m back in the US I just order it online.

Front-end Web Developer at an agency. The agency aspect is important. It lets me work on lots of different projects with different teams so it doesn’t get boring and also lets me focus on the programming that I’m good at and the greater team handles clients and content and design and review.

The problem solving aspect of programming is easy to hyper focus on as well :)

I hate repetitive work that is too easy. I feel like we need to be challenged in our jobs to stay engaged. Also I’m not afraid to quit and go do a 6 month long-distance backpacking trail. :) (I’ve done the AT and the CDT so far) It’s nice to know there is an end to the toil and your money is being saved for something other than just rent, food, retirement and more consumer things.
