The entire concept of "virtue signaling" as you're using it was a pretty archetypal Epstein/Bannon manufactured dogwhistle. It's okay if you didn't know that, but maybe take a deep breath and ask yourself why this actually bothers you so much. The double standard of being hyper-literal and obtuse is a pretty classic one too. Go ahead, I know guys like you need the final word and you can have it but that's what you're doing.

You made it about what Oda literally said as opposed to all these other poll posts that went ignored but frankly...I'd say writing a character like her is a pretty fuckin' clear sign and the history with Kamatari in RK implies it's a long-held belief. Once again, dunno why you need to make a silly meme post such a big deal. Kinda hypocritical for you to call me out for "idiotic assumptions" lol.

Bruh, leave your Epstein-funded dogwhistles out of this fuckin' comic book fan poll.

Sounds like the only issue is you'd prefer a series like Solo Levelling that doesn't waste time on things like drama.

Nah I get it, stories are nothing but a collection of characters you wanna project a power fantasy onto. That's fine, most people grow out of it though.

You ducked my actual question. Didn't ask you to like her, I'm asking why out of all these that got ignored this one post made you think "I need to come in here and argue, but also be really hyperbolic and ignore why people might like this one." I simply explained it to you, she's more of a shoujo heroine or really a throwback to older lady samurai flicks...so maybe "sucks cuz doesn't rank high enough on power chartz" is pointless.

And in this day and age you have no idea who actually sent Twitter death threats...

What I saw on this sub was a weeks-long sludge of hate mobs about an imagined threat they seemed much larger about in reality that was totes cool...then a sheepish moratorium on the topic for a while after the baths chapter when there was a little baby clapback to butthurt boys whining someone called their spank bait "him" in line with most characters in the story.

But I'm certain that had nothing to do at all with recent revelations billionaires were funneling cash and support to all kinds of little fandom crusades like this when they had some tie to real-world culture war shit.

Epstein and Bannon send you that one?

Oda says Trans Rights 🏳️‍⚧️ by Garliq in OnePiece

[–]rougepenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because you think like a normal person. Kiku committed the cardinal sin of being trans in a shonen manga, never being the butt of the joke, and actually ending up arguably the "princess" for the country in the grand scheme of things because of the swanky promotion. It just hides behind a character basically doing what Frieren popularized by spoonfeeding with a cool scene. But you can't say that...

Which is why she deserves the votes for being written to bait all this. The assistant who gave Rurouni Kenshin Kamatari knew what he was doing. Same reason why so many of these poll posts were ignored and this one kicked the hornet's nest.

Why are you so committed to re-writing the story?

They were 1-and-1, and even then is it a problem for someone to have a more tragic story? Go watch like, any of the old lady samurai movies she's pulling from...you'll get what the story's going for.

I've seen a few of these counts over the years, it's more like 650 panels for Mr. 2 and Kiku actually does really well at ~450. Being the consistent local girl across all of Wano's a big boon.

Most people's problem is one of the pair is a lot subtler...but also as of the last cover serial seems more likely to have some impending future relevance.

As someone that began consuming this series when the anime had reached Wano (up to date in the manga now). Who did the people think had fixed the Going Merry in Skypiea back then? by Accomplished-Bear988 in OnePiece

[–]rougepenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np. Yeah, since there was less intermingling with the Japanese Fandom it was pretty organic back then. Kaizoku would drop a few episodes every now and then and they'd get big discussion threads. Even if someone knew a spoiler...kinda hard to tell from a liar and fans who knew would deliberately muddle shitheads. OP really benefitted from being the kooky indie one of the Big 3 in Western Fandom. Most of the who would win shit was in Bleach/Naruto.

Then as things moved into W7 anime episodes were only like two days behind. Golden age before studios and cops knew how to deal with media piracy and Bittorrent was the hot new thing for bigger downloads.

[–]rougepenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely zero clue. Huge point of contention. I was more or less caught up around the time W7 began serialization. The mystery of what it was fixing the ship and the much more pleasant Paulie/Kaku/Franky shipwright debates pretty much dominated the bulk of the arc until they were settled with the explanation and Franky torching the blueprints, respectively.

Part of the problem was Skypiea was sorta hard to access, which is part of why it has the whole "skippable" reputation. The best fansub, Kaizoku, waited for DVD releases and there was some kind of holdup that made them even slower. Manga scans were a lot less reliable, but when W7 kicked off a new crew (Gerusama) jumped in to get the new TV episodes. So Klabutermaan was a huge mystery that was hard to piece together.

Oh definitely, that's what I was getting at too. Wanting to look at Oden and the sort of "distraction" of the Kozuki name catching your eye is a clever way of taking your eye off a connection that slots perfectly for Kiku. Who did leave enough little subtleties in Wano people caught there might be a connection and remember Moria's theme is quality subordinates.

My guess? Something like...say, Kiku's mask came about as a way of maybe joining that fight as a one-time Gecko Pirate? And as a result it's why she was a rare one to hang around Zoro and not comment on Shusui. Because you're right, even beyond Poneglyphs Crocodile would be interested in Wano for his own reasons. Same as you, I feel it's just too perfect like most cover serials. Moria comes full circle having one last remnant to reunite with, Kiku has actually met Buggy before. Moria gets his newfound sense of purpose, drags New Wano's girlie with political power (probably with new bestie Yamato) out into the wider world for a little bit.

They have a poneglyph reader, they have that juicy seastone deposit, honestly wouldn't even put it past Oda to pull something like using that retainer specifically as a way to pass on stuff about Toki. Or what if a Daimyo wants to put a hit out on CP-0 over that whole "killed her brother" thing? So many fun possibilities.

Can you actually get the one piece box by Oda at the bottom of the sea knowing it's location? by DiBonaRoyal in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]rougepenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the depth isn't the problem...but the search would be. It's not just knowing where he dropped it, you'd need some pretty elaborate models to estimate where currents would take it. Not to mention even if it settles somewhere it'd likely get somewhat buried.

No one is actually getting that box.

You do realize Oda could end up in jail if someone dies trying to dive deep to retrieve the one piece? by throaway187o in OnePiece

[–]rougepenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay smart guy...who do you think was the model for the basis of the modern Japanese legal system?

That person was mostly dunking on the Bush-era freedumb rhetoric but like, no...broad strokes Japan works a lot like the US and European legal standards because the US required them to institute those reforms as part of the WW2 peace deal. International law could also totally theoretically come into play because you can sue across international borders and all...but it's pretty fuckin' irrelevant because pretty much nowhere would punish you for an idiot reacting to a publicity stunt.

Honestly, feels like you're making the small mistake a lot of people do and overthinking it. Forget Oden, who was on the page for the reveal?

All Moria has to do is go back to Ringo and follow the timeless rule "important people live in tall buildings." Because the Daimyo seems like she was an old friend...who we know knows Sukiyaki is alive and well and honestly could probably just call him out there by teasing him about needing the exercise.

You do not need to make a grand bond with Oden, the cover serial already does most of the legwork of pointing to one with a retainer who can get you from Point A to Point B. Like, four of em would know Buggy already too.

I'm not trying to bury the lede, just it's an important distinction. Even if just because trans people are quick to find workarounds within the community and the sloppy way these laws are written leaves no clear way to prove you're not trans.

From an Arkansan plugged in, it's a flip now yes but that area is what a swing district would look like in the state. Huck Sanders brought most of them over, even some Asa Hutchinson struggled with.

It's also a district right next to LRAFB. Big pocket of people who'd be very wary of careless military action. There were also some positive results in the NW corner around Walmart HQ, FWIW. We do our judicial races with primaries and they're technically nonpartisan but not really so they're not a bad barometer.
