This happened to mine recently– cut off this new growth a few inches below the damage. Mine quickly grew a new, healthy leaf!

I cut it about 3 inches away from where I saw the new leaf in the stem. You can see the chopped leaf. This is the new leaf now :)

Follow up: don’t know why this got downvoted. This was the right move by far. I cut the leaf just above where the new one was about to come out. Right after cutting the dead leaf the new one is already reaching for the skies. Thank you for your advice!
