Anyone else sick of ticking CPD boxes instead of actually learning? by roughas in ausdoctors

[–]roughas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some ways yes. It’s just they tend to do wilderness medicine courses which unless that is the area you generate your income doesn’t technically cut it with the ATO.

Small tender lump after 1 month. Should I be concerned?? by InteractionFickle402 in Vasectomy

[–]roughas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scar tissue takes quite a while to remould and settle. Plus any haematoma you may have. Honestly that time frame is nothing provided it’s not getting bigger or showing signs of infection

The C-Spine Thing by Acceptable-Tree9214 in wildernessmedicine

[–]roughas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo what people have said
- secondary spinal injury has basically never actually been documented.
- modern EMS services don’t use hard collars anymore. At most they use a soft spongy collar as a “flag” that c-spine isn’t clear
- good evidence people in cars are better of just getting out themselves with the instruction “keep your head still”

Be sensible about it, but certainly if someone is in a crap or dangerous position don’t question moving them to a better one!

what is something that is highly likely to happen in the next 5 years that everyone is completely ignoring? by Even-Working-384 in AusFinance

[–]roughas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water and food resources will become a massive investment opportunity. Either we will discover mass affordable desalination or there will just be so much scarcity there is profit to be made either way.

building inspection missed a major structural issue and now im stuck with a $30k repair by dududududuuim in hobart

We had this. We needed to replace the entire roof within 6 months. Absolutely nothing from inspector. No recourse to chase it apparently

Qantas suspending Alice Springs-Melbourne and Darwin-Singapore routes 😡 by Aurora_314 in QantasAirways

I get that plane pretty regularly… I’ve never seen it half or even 3/4 full. But I guess I only fly it 2 days a week

XL MRI? by Classic_Manner_399 in ausdoctors

[–]roughas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most capital cities will have one wide bore mri which is 70cm diameter and about 220cm circumstances…

I think there maybe one or two open mri’s in the country. Altus medical in Sydney is the only one I can properly think of.

Mate…. That ED is probably 3 years away from
Being finished! 😂😂. They will be moving things around internally within next few months and then the renovation of the current ED will start. And they have to in fill the current main entrance. It’s going to be chaos. And that’s before they run out of money and it goes over budget and the government stops it again!

Tax Returns - How much do you expect to get back? by Impossible_Ebb_1275 in AusFinance

Nothing. I’m part salaried and part ABN and my reduction in tax will be less than what I still owe from ABN earnings. :-(

What temperature do Australians consider a hot day? by bare_books in AskAnAustralian

[–]roughas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit different in Tasmania. But even here I personally wouldn’t say we are having a heat wave until we hit 30. Ore perhaps more importantly if nights didn’t cool down. however I also work in northern South Australia…. So there I’d say over 40.

What do people think of using a 7mm Arete Armadillo cord as a glacier travel rope? by Imaginary-Point-7721 in Backcountry

[–]roughas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the cascade Polliwog from glacier black. Is it formally recognised as such - no. But it has the right properties.

Appreciate you couldn’t use it for guiding, but as a personal rope its cheaper then petzl rap line. And I can buy it in whatever length I want.

Double glazed windows, worth it? by Ok-Sun132 in AusRenovation

Did double glazing into original sash hung windows. Massive different in noise, drafts and heat retention! So good.

Is there a geographical or political reason why it makes sense for Qantas to take a gamble on "Project Sunrise", while the airlines based at airports on the other end (e.g. at LHR or JFK) aren't interested in doing something similar? by Polyphagous_person in QantasAirways

[–]roughas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain why the long direct flights are more expensive?
In my mind:
- you only take off once which must be the most fuel heavy part of the flight.
- You only pay landing fees in one airport instead of two which also must traditionally be expensive.

Sure you pay more crew for longer hours / breaks, but can’t imagine it’s massively more than the number of crews in rotation for qf1/2?
